Being told Sept 7 and 21 is a holiday here in Philippines just a couple of minutes ago has made me sad because....I hadn't planned any trip on these dates, thinking I had a ton of emails to contend with on a working day!!
MANILA, Sept. 4 (PNA)—President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Friday declared Sept. 7 and Sept. 21 as non-working holidays throughout the country.
Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said that President Arroyo declared Sept. 7 (Monday) as National Day of Mourning on the burial of Iglesia Ni Cristo Executive Minister Erano “Ka Erdy” Manalo.
Remonde said the President also ordered all flags must be flown half-mast on Monday, the interment of the INC leader.
Ka Erdy died of cardio-pulmonary arrest last Aug. 31 at the age of 84. His remains lie in state at the Central Temple of INC in Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City.
Remonde also said President Arroyo also declared Sept. 21 a non-working holiday being Eid’l Fitr, or the end of Ramadan, as provided by law.
The Palace official said Eid’l Fitr is listed as one of the holidays stated in Presidential Proclamation 1869. (PNA)
sounds familiar..nadinig ko na to..from the other holiday you had before na napagusapan din natin..nag work ka..tapos sabi mo sayang, kc may OT (overtime)...*grin*
Uyyy, bagong trend ito, ah. Pag head ka pala ng religious group at namatay ka, dapat National Day of Mourning. Eh, di pag turn na ni Bro. Mike (huwag naman sana), National day of Mourning din. Teka nga pala, ba't walang ganyan nung namatay si Cardinal Sin? Ni flags at half-mast wala man lang yata.
I had always thought that May 1, Labor Day was a communist-inspired holiday because it was a big thing for the activist students in UP especially that the "Internationale" (tagalog version) was fervently sung by them on this day.
It is not so much communist as worker-centered pala, and the May date was ironically due to an incident in capitalist United States of America.
sa dami ng holidays sa pinas lugi parents dyan. full ka nagbabayad sa school ( pwera pa school bus) eh wala naman make up classes. wala tuloy natutunan mga bata kung hindi mag farmville. hehehe!!! expect more holidays pag na tigok si mike velarde ng el shaddai, eddie villanueva ng jesus is lord movement elly soriano ng dating daan. ed cabalu ng milf, hay naku!!!
oo nga...lugi ako...3 pa naman estudyante ko! naku, madami pa pala silang SOLID voting bloc! more holidays ahead! ahehehe...di naman po wishing for them to go ahead of us so soon....bahala na si LORD sa kanila...
Non-working holidays? Sa Pilipinas ko lang naririnig yan a. Di ba pag holiday talaga naman walang work (unless those working in essential services like police, firefighters, hospital workers?
hehehe...ganon din impression sa akin when I first heard it...and I am sure ganon din ang nasa isip ng mga tao who works on those days..
hmm...can't recall off-hand ano yung holidays where may work, but probably it was intended to point out the "special"-ness of such days, at the same time, that there was still a need to go to work...
sa totoo lang, am not sure anymore, keeping track of holidays, non-working days, holidays na binawi, holidays na biglang holidays, holidays na naging di na holidays...never mind...
My sentiments exactly. Pero if you ask the employers, especially yung nasa manufacturing sector na may mga target delivery dates, and the production cost have already been considered before hand in their contract price computations, this kind of uncertainty wreaks havoc both in their production and financial schedules. If they comply with the sudden declaration of a holiday, they might not meet deadlines which could mean a double-whammy, i.e. paying the extra (unplanned) pay, and possible penalty charges for late delivery.
I understand the point of view of manufacturing firms (and well, maski di pa sa manufacturing)...it would be nice to get a final list so one can plan out vacations and such..but as they say "only in the Philippines"...
Specifically, it is geographically located at latitude (14.5637 degrees) 14° 33' 49" North of the Equator and longitude (121.0651 degrees) 121° 3' 54" East of the Prime Meridian on the Map of Manila.
To get there, take a taxi and say: " Sa Riverside Pasig, po." Kung hindi nya ma-intindihan o kung magtanong san yun, say: " it is geographically located at latitude (14.5637 degrees) 14° 33' 49" North of the Equator and longitude (121.0651 degrees) 121° 3' 54" East of the Prime Meridian on the Map of Manila."
naku Chito, I don't think kaya ng taxi driver natin dito ang ganong mga directions...alam mo naman dito, medyo pihikan ang mga taxi drivers natin, even if dilapidated pa ang kanyang taxi..

ReplyDeleteKung may namatay na Archbishop jan holiday din ba? or yung head ng mga Protestants? or yung Chief Rabbi?
ReplyDeleteactually, may special working holidays din dito sa atin eh...and it does not refer to essential services peeps ....
ReplyDeletehumihingi lang kasi ng boto! konting pasipsip muna
ReplyDeletehay naku..this kind of maneuvering is tiring...now may news na may work na rin daw...for some of us at least..
ReplyDeleteBPOs, electronics firms excluded from September 7 non-working holiday

anobatalagakoya?
Contradictory yata yang term na yan. The word HOLIDAY means walang trabaho. Kung may trabaho hindi na HOLIDAY.
ReplyDeletehehehe...ganon din impression sa akin when I first heard it...and I am sure ganon din ang nasa isip ng mga tao who works on those days..

ReplyDeletewell, one thing I am glad of...at least the Sept 21 wasn't taken back as a non-holiday..I plan to eat a kebab or two again on that day :-)
ReplyDeletebtw, anybody in my network knows where or what Riverside Pasig is?
ReplyDeleteIt's beside the river Pasig.
ReplyDeletespecifically, latitude, longtitude? how to get there? :-)
ReplyDeleteits ok, decided to forego going to an outing there today...its raining anyway..
