Makati City, Philippines
This week has been a bit a mix of pluses and minuses for me. More on the good plus signs though.
I arrived from Cebu City on Tuesday lacking sleep (as usual) but found a new way of saving on taxi costs traveling back from the Centennial airport to my current home. I used to dread taking PAL flights because it would mean that I would either wait for a long while and wrangle with taxi drivers for cab fare back to Makati where I live..or suffer the agonizingly high taxi rates of the "metered" taxis in the arrival area. After hastily unpacking what I could, it was straight to work.
I met (after so many months) and got some leftover goodies from some people working in a bank, and I had fun talking to them about Twilight (they haven't finished it yet) hehehe. Girl talk is sometimes a very nice way to relax and take one's mind off work and the pressures. Never mind that they ran out of stock of what I had wanted. I also didn't get a penalty for late payment of the credit card.
I met up with some old and new friends from the OneAsean group on Thursday when Rogertourman arrived in Manila this week. I ate good food and enjoyed the company but missed the karaoke part due to work.
I actually was supposed to meet up with Roger by Wednesday but begged off due to work, only to find out the last 2 minutes that the phone conferences were cancelled...so I missed my chance of going on the cruise on Manila Bay (which I've never done before, even if I have been here in Manila for a couple of years already)
My brod is going to Dubai by next week, so I had to meet him as quickly as I could and give him more pasalubongs (gifts/souvenirs) from my mom and moi. I had dinner with his wife and youngest child (incidentally I just remembered that he is also my godchild hehehe) at an "eat-all-you-can" in Kamayan on Friday.
I almost also attended a wedding of one of my officemates in a previous company this Saturday. But I slept around 5 am already the other night, plus I hate travelling to places here in Luzon where I don't have a companion especially if I've never been there before, so I had to bow out and tell them it was better I see them later after the wedding and give them a gift, then go there now and have nothing to show for it *wink*
Well, after missing that and thinking in spurts about the whole week and what I was supposed to be doing if I knew what was good for me... I spent the whole day listening to music and just reading fanfiction. One of my ways of erasing from my mind what I was expected to complete or have a deadline at work and in other areas of my life this January 2009.
Instead of doing some reviews, studying or reading mail which I should have read last month am just..well, not minding anything.
So what?
I don't care.
I don't care.
I don't care what you think ...of me.
People can say manage your own work-life balance thingie. So far I've seen it to be balanced....oh yes indeedy. Its just work-work balance though not unless I force it to be otherwise.
While some people may be finishing up and ticking their New Year's resolutions for this year, I can't seem to work up any interest or energy at this point...I just want to swing to the other side of the pendulum, throw the papers away and let Fate fend for herself.
Let me be irresponsible for a while as it is nice to not think of duties and other serious stuff during weekends.
And in keeping with my mood...I keep singing these lyrics to myself this evening while the music plays on, with special emphasis on the words of "I don't care".
Fall Out Boy - I Don't Care Lyrics :
Say my name, and his in the same breath,
I dare you to say they taste the same,
Let the leaves fall off in the summer
And let December glow feel flames
Brace myself and let go,
Start it over again in Mexico
These friends, they don’t love you
They just love the hotel suites, now
I don’t care what you think
As long as it’s about me
The best of us can find happiness
In misery
Oh, take a chance, let your body get a tolerance,
I’m not a chance, but a heat wave in your pants
Pull a breath like another cigarette,
Palms up, I’m trading ‘em .. trading ‘em
I’m the oracle in my chest,
Let the guitar scream like a fascist,
Sweat it out, shut your mouth,
Free love on the streets, but
In the alley and I ain’t that cheap, now
I don’t care what you think,
As long as it’s about me
The best of us can find happiness
In misery
I don’t care what you think,
As long as it’s about me
The best of us can find happiness
In misery
Said-a, I don’t care just a-what you think,
As long as it’s about me, you said-a
I don’t care just what you think,
As long as it’s about me, you said-a
I don’t care (I don’t care)
You said I don’t care (I don’t care)
Said I don’t care,
I don’t care
I don’t care (I don’t care), I said-a
I don’t care
I don’t care what you think,
As long as it’s about me
The best of us can find happiness
In misery
I don’t care what you think,
As long as it’s about me
The best of us can find happiness
In misery

ReplyDeleteKid: I think you are just tired. I've seen it before. Friends, old and young, Asian, American, European, all shapes and sizes, they would come up to me with this mood...I'd listen and then with a pat in the back, I would say: sleep it off, mate.
ReplyDeleteThen the fellow would go and, voila! after even just a catnap (pun intended!:-), he/she'll be fine. :-)
Ah, to be young and so free. When you get married, Cat, life is more regimented and somehow "imposed" on you. Maraming boss, hehe. When you are your own boss, you only have yourself to please so you tend to do as you like - go here, there, everywhere and then plop! You're burnt out.
Pero married or not, we all can make this mistake of pushing ourselves too hard...
Just take it easy, if not always, then sometimes.
Like now.:-)
HUGS and see you soon.
Wow, Cat.. hihi... judging by how cool you were when i saw you a couple of days ago, i would never think you went through this burn-out, or at least that's what i think it was ;) And Ludette is right.. at times like that, best thing to do is STOP. TAKE A DEEP BREATH... DROP EVERYTHING, and DO WHAT YOU REALLY WANT TO DO FOR YOURSELF!!! In my case, I'll take Chito's advice... I'm heading to Sonya's and get spa'd out... head to toe.. hala!
ReplyDelete*grin* I'm burned out every week...but I think I will be stressed if I go the spa...sa kakaisip sa expenses incurred...mwahaha!
