It was only because I came across the latest remake of this that I listened to the following versions.
First is the one sung by Paragon. According to wikipedia: This 1967 song was written by John Hold and performed by said group with Mr. Hold as lead singer.
Then US New Wave band Blondie came along in 1980 and sang this is a reggae/ska style. It was released as a single, and appeared as the fourth track on the band's fifth album, Autoamerican.
This song was covered again by the British vocal trio Atomic Kitten and again reached number one in the UK in September 2002. This time, the song was remade with keyboards to make it more pop-oriented. Their version of the song also added a new bridge, hence the subtitle "Get the Feeling".
"Numba 1 (Tide Is High)" is the latest version as of this writing, and is performed by Kardinal Offishall and featuring Keri Hilson. The song was released in September 2008 as the second official single from Kardinal's album Not 4 Sale.Aside from the album version, which features Rihanna, there are three other versions of "Numba 1 (Tide Is High)". The second is the original version, featuring Nicole Scherzinger. The third version features Rihanna and Nicole Scherzinger. The fourth version is the official single and features Keri Hilson. There is also another version which features Rihanna, Nicole Scherzinger and Keri Hilson.
Whew!
akala ko Atomic Kitten ang original nito..I love this song...
ReplyDeletethe way that sounds Nona..parang mas matanda ako sa yo..kc Blondie ang nagisnan ko...*wink*

ReplyDeletewaaah! who in my acquaintance remembers this as being Blondie's? :-)
ReplyDeleteoh see, ganoon kay Meann :) the version of Blondie was not so popularized...Atomic Kitten talaga ang na mas publicized..
ReplyDeleteyung original cute din..
ME!
ReplyDeleteAll along I thought this was an original Blondie song. Di pala siya ang Orig. I like the Atomic Kitten version too but the original one is neat.
*hugs Joey*
ReplyDeletemy saviour...imagine, naabutan din pala ni Joey...hehehehe...
kc I listened every Sunday during my high school years sa American Top 40...e mukhang sina Nona and Meann puro British acts yata...hahaha!
I noticed nobody is commenting on the latest (Numba 1)...di pang classic? *wink* or may gen gap tayo sa kanila...
ReplyDeleteweirdly, yung sa Atomic Kitten ang di ko masyadong nadinig or napuna...hmm...could be coz I stopped listening much to the airwaves by that time...
ReplyDeleteyung original talga ang first-time ever ko na-hear..
yeap..the original never heard..I can somehow ride on with this phase that there comes a year when the trend of hits wouldn't appeal to us..I think early 90's I hardly got the feel about the trendy songs..I am not sure, if it was because my daughter was newly born and the world of being a mom wasn't yet conquered by my weakened mind, experience etc...:)
ReplyDeleteActually, I have never heard of Atomic Kitten. I still like Blondie's version and like I said, the original is neat.
ReplyDeleteAnong year ang HS mo, Kat? Hey, nothing wrong with British Acts. Remember the British Invasion? Fab 4? Hello!
ReplyDeletehehehe...
ReplyDelete1982-1986...
ReplyDeleteof course there is nothing wrong with British acts...
ah..akala mo kc sabi ko American top 40? but that chart actually can have bands and groups from England and other countries...
in fact its thru that particular radio show that I began listening to Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Culture Club, atbp.
ako, I like all four..hehehe...its all different styles kc...although in all honesty during the 1990s I sort of not listened much to the radio anymore...
ReplyDeleteI like reggae and pop, not so much heavy metal although I can stand it....e naalala ko pa yung mga Bon Jovi and even yung headbanger na songs, naka-guitara ako using the broom don sa cucina namin..hahaha!
i did patronize american top 40 too cat...no worries...and yes, i loved duran duran, spandau ballet and culture club!! those were my days in high school and what is so apt is that i am preparing our silver jubillee soon and we were trying to list down songs from the 80s...now thanks for bringing up the boy bands here...it will really bring us down memory lane....woohoo!!!
ReplyDeletealam mo pareho tayo...i don't know why..maybe nalululong sa career...at walang panahon to listen to music...puro listen to clients bickerings or high praises lang...hehehe!!
ReplyDeletei danced to reggae and swing and sing the pop tunes...i don't even know if i can do that now...matigas na buto at sintunado na ata eh...
a-ha!
ReplyDeleteyep..STC Cebu HS batch 86...hehehe...
ReplyDeletecould we say 80s was our era? because basically I feel ang daming magandang combination and songs which came out during the 80s...saw the rise of so many bands, duets, solos, groups etc.
ReplyDeletewell, not all mtvs turned out to be classics but enough you could say that it wasn't too bad...daming talents both singers and songwriters etc....Madonna, Prince, Cinci Lauper (san na kaya?), Wham, Aha, Depeche Mode to name a few...
good luck and tip..if mahilig ka sa YM...sa Yahoo Music, pili ka lang ng station na pang 80s na pop or ano..and you will hear them again :-)
ay, problema yan sa tumitingin...its all in your mind...as long as nobody expects you to bend your knees backwards..ok na yan so dance na dyan Meann! hehehe!
ReplyDeletewow..80's are more of the EWF (Earth, Wind and Fire..) Michael Jackson, Boy George, Spandau Ballet,U2. ano pa ba? sino ba yung group who sang "Mad world"...Whitney Houston, Madonna, Cindy Lauper, Rod Stewart? or 70's siya...
ReplyDeletedearest Meanne..here's to our 80's na sa Jardine Davies ako niyan, '83 I started there, wala pang kamuwang muwang sa mundo :), then 86 I worked at Bukas Palad social center where I met Arno so here's the list of CD to those days and one can buy so cheaply:http://www.google.de/products?sourceid=navclient&hl=de&rlz=1T4SUNA_deDE294DE294&q=Hits+of+the+80's&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title
ReplyDeletemay game pa ako before during high school..gagawa ako ng story or paragraphs tapos ang gagamitin sa story is yung either pangalan ng artists or the names of the hit songs..hahay...di ko na magawa yan ngayon..makalimutin na...
