Earth Hour

Start:     Mar 28, '09 8:30p
End:     Mar 28, '09 9:30p
Switch off your lights for the Earth hour.

Visit www.earthour.org to register.

This won't be difficult for me as I really do not like lights on at night when I am at home. I prefer to conserve energy and since I easily perspire, all the better to be in darkness for a while.

  15. I don't want to sound cynical here but what can we expect to happen after turning our lights off for an hour? If it is to simply dramatize the concern for excessive carbon emission and to influence people to switch to "green" sources of energy, I think it will be more effective if we do an "Earth Week" or "Earth Month" where we will turn off our lights for a week or a month and be forced by circumstances to really "go green."

  16. good point Chito...maybe this just one tiny step..mag snowball sana..

  17. Chits, this is more of a symbolic act..a starting point that one could start from within oneself and that in unison we are stronger and there should be something done soonest..

    and also a reminder..

  18. Yes, Nons. I understand that the gesture is really symbolic than anything else. Kaya lang sa tingin ko kasi, dapat beyond the slogans and symbolic acts, dapat mayroong concrete plan of action. I mean, what do we do on a personal level to translate this symbolic act into sustainable and on-going agenda for action?

Anyway, I am really thankful to Cat for putting this on the spotlight. In her other post (Earthling), I found a link to another video which I think is very appropriate for the topic here. The link opens to another google feature length film (about 1.5 hours) with Leonardo Di Caprio as the narrator (he's also the producer), entitled "The 11th Hour." The link is:

Unlike the other previous films, this one has a very positive theme about it (in my opinion).

  19. it's a good disposition to think of concrete goals..however, it would be depending on each of us how we would go along with it and make it as part of our lives to be ecologically conscious .
it would be more deepened if we search on suggestions about it..there are associations which could lead us the way, too.
of course, it would be more massive, if the government cooperates..to which I believe there are lots of improvement na rin.
so thanks Chito for the concern..I understand your point of view and hope for the same!
I know L. de Caprio is into ecology too, he wanted to become a biologist before joiningg the show business..
I'd watch the link you gave.
    MABUHAY!

  23. *sigh* sa pagod and late nights...and old age...

anyway, as long as 8;30 pm sa Germany yata, yun yun eh...

was nice to have more darkness than usual..I just left a tealight lighted in my bathroom..and snored the night away..
