Aside from the song reminding me of Pearl (who I've not seen for a long time), it also (logically) made me think of seatbelts (yeah, I should have thought of everlasting love and romance eh?). Anyway, I have heard the original version but I enjoy this better.
And for you romantics out there, do drive carefully!
Lyrics:
Where, oh where, can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me.
She's gone to heaven, so I've got to be good,
so I can see my baby when I leave this world.
We were out on a date in my daddy's car, we hadn't driven very far.
There in the road, straight ahead - a car was stalled, the engine was dead.
I couldn't stop, so I swerved to the right.
I'll never forget the sound that night.
The screamin' tires, the bustin' glass,
the painful scream that I heard last....
Oh where, oh where, can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me,
She's gone to heaven, so I've got to be good,
so I can see my baby when I leave this world.
When I woke up, the rain was pourin' down.
There were people standing all around.
Something warm flowing through my eyes,
but somehow I found my baby that night.
I lifted her head, she looked at me and said - hold me darling, just a little while...
I held her close, I kissed her our last kiss.
I found the love that I knew I had missed.
Well, now she's gone, even though I hold her tight.
I lost my love, my life, that night.
Oh where, oh where, can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me,
She's gone to heaven, so I've got to be good,
so I can see my baby when I leave this world.

ReplyDeleteHi Cat,
ReplyDeleteI love those 80's tunes as well. Lucky to be old ;-) and to have heard them when they were new!
I didn't recognize the name of the song at first, but I remembered the lyrics. Unfortunately I couldn't get the song to play in your first comment up there.
Take care and drive safely.
Don't forget to go to Angono and see the pre-historic stone art/writings.
ReplyDeleteHi Cat,
ReplyDeleteWell as I clicked over again the song started playing without a hitch.
Take care.
Isa pa yun. Kapitbayan lang ng Antipolo.
ReplyDeletebaging? the one where Tarzan swings by and yells?
ReplyDeletemy god, I want to try swinging that way! no kidding! not over a deep ravine ha...swing-swing lang...
Sa playground dami swing. : )
ReplyDeleteSa dance floor meron din swing. : )
ReplyDeleteI was wondering Ted, is it really a case of people belonging to a particular decade or era and saying that the songs in their time is the best?
ReplyDeletecoz while I certainly enjoy 60s, 90s, even 40s songs (hey, I used to keep on playing Rosemarie Clooney's, yes George Clooney's aunt's song - Come On-a My House, Botch-a-Me to name a few as well as Doris Day's Baby It's Cold Outside...
but I still really enjoy 80's music..ah..those tunes when I was in high-school...who can forget...even Thriller and Beat It and Here Comes the Rain Again etc. etc.
waaah..trip down memory lane...
prehistoric? I've been to Angono before, but all I was were painting which were not prehistoric at all...
ReplyDeletemaybe I should contribute stick figures on a wall somewhere..haha!
hi Ted,
ReplyDeletemaybe it was at the time I changed what I posted...since the original didn't loop and I couldnt' find the setting in the html code...
and so, since I only drive when am back in my hometown, I say thanks for the thought on driving, and right back at you too :-)
hmmmm.....maybe we should schedule some - Visit the Bayan - and discover the towns in our country. Shempre, because Jing is in Antipolo, unahin natin sya..
ReplyDeletetapos Marie can take care of ..uhm...Fairview? Novaliches?
Pearl can take care of Cavite, Chito can take care of...ano ba...Paranaque ba? naku..sorry Chito...then....let's see, am thinking who else to volunteer *grin*
actually, my style now is to open Multiply and see the sites of friends who have songs I want to play in the background while I do my work..hahaha! I know I would be tempted to stay long if I post in Multiply but I feel incomplete also if I don't open Multiply at least once a day, so there's a compromise *wink*
ReplyDeleteI didn't know -
ReplyDeleteThe Filipino rock band Kamikazee recorded a cover of "Last Kiss" for its 2002 album, Kamikazee.
"Last Kiss" is a song that was written by Wayne Cochran in 1962 and originally performed by Wayne Cochran & the C.C. Riders, although their version of the song had little success.
ReplyDeleteWayne Cochran was initially inspired to write "Last Kiss" after having lived near a dangerous highway where several accidents had occurred yearly. Cochran began writing the song in 1956.
Cochran based the rest of "Last Kiss" on an incident in which several teens were killed and two seriously injured when their car struck a flatbed logging truck. Sixteen-year-old Jeanette Clark was out on a date in Barnesville, Georgia on December 22, 1962, the Saturday before Christmas. She was with a group of friends in a 1954 Chevrolet. J. L. Hancock, also sixteen, was driving the car in heavy traffic and while traveling on Highway 341, collided with a trailer truck. Clark, Hancock, and another teenager were killed, and two other teens in the car were seriously injured.Cochran finished the song, which he titled "Last Kiss", and dedicated it to Clark. - acc to Wiki
kaya mag seatbelt na kayo!

uhm....I've never tried dancing na ballroom..up and down and left and right lang na steps alam ko...:-)
ReplyDeleteThis is a sad love song...rhythm is good & lively!..
ReplyDeleteHi Cat...this is Angie, friend of Che...she came to see me in my hometown in Pangasinan...wish i've meet you while i was there..(^_^)...Cheers...
Unfortunately, may kasamang mga ravines. Part of the experience. hehehe.
ReplyDeleteAng cute talaga ng tugtog na 'to. Kahit ouch ang lyrics. :P
hi Angie! oh yes, I remember you, I saw your pics of yourself and Che..hehehe...sayang nga eh, I was really hoping to see you when I came back from Cebu but I think you left already by that time..or the next week...
ReplyDeletenext time you pop by back in the Phils, buzz me too para I have a good reason to visit Pangasinan again :-) baka yung Hundred Islands di na 100 yon, dadami parang bubbles...
hehehe..LSS ako...sad ba? weirdly I think - e kc naman ikaw lalaki padalos-dalos mag-drive ayan tuloy...:-)
ReplyDeleteHonga...sabi ko pa naman kay Che i-discover ko muna kung ano ang meron dito aside from the Cathedral. Kailangan alam ko kung saan ko kayo dadalhin kaya mag ocular inspection muna ako. :))
ReplyDeleteFunny, pero nung nag road trip kami with the Yonzons, before reaching Antipolo from the Laguna side, panay describe ko kina Guia kung more or less saan ang house ko. Eh familiar pala si Guia sa territory. Nung nakalagpas na kami sa road na ituturo ko sana sa kanila as the way in, sabi ni Guia "Di ba bandang dito ka nakatira" or something like that. Nagulat pa ako--nagovershoot na pala di ko na-notice. Ganyan ako ka-navigationally challenged. Eh almost 10 years na yata ako nakatira sa Antipolo. hehehe. Juskupo.
LOL...actually, you remind me of some of my favorite characters from anime who are also "directionally-challenged" with that story....
ReplyDeletepero shempre mas grabe sa anime...I mean, he could get lost inside the house or bathroom...yeah, hilarious!
ay...make sure there are mattresses underneath me please e ako pa...sabi ni mommy accident-prone...corners, sharp knives, forks..ayon..ako ang target...
ReplyDeletealso, I was looking for the Kamikazee version..the one I heard on the internet now, am not sure if yon ba yon..hehe..iba rin flavor..nawala ang sweetness...
Siguro pag 90 years old na ako. LOL
ReplyDeletePost mo pag nakita mo na ha? =)
ReplyDeleteHi Cat,
ReplyDeleteI don't know that people get stuck in any particular decade. I graduated from High School in 1983 and so the songs of that time have special meaning as they are associated with specific memories, but I like quite a wide variety of music. Of course back then I was interested in Punk Rock, so I was not much of a Michael Jackson fan, but I did like the Eurythmics.
Take care.
Thanks for this song, Cat. I haven't heard this song in such a long time. A Pearl Jam classic.
ReplyDeletenakita ko nga..pero weird eh...teka, hanapin ko ulit...I hope somebody can verify if its really Kamikazee or some demented Pearl Jam fan high on something else...hehehe!
ReplyDeletehi Joey, yw!
ReplyDeleteam looking for acoustic version lang sana...
good point Ted...memories associated with the songs heard...
ReplyDeletemy dad used to play at 4 am on the stereo his discs featuring Spanish songs by Pilita Corales (a well-known Filipina actress and singer who incidentally is half-Cebuana) and boy everytime I hear those I remember all those dawn hours where I had to stuff the pillow over my ears...
LOL! hi-tech na at that time, mag GPS na tayo sa loob ng bathroom...*wink*
ReplyDeletehi Jing,
ReplyDeletethis is the first link I saw http://www.imeem.com/people/dHaMcg/music/V4BWXUL3/kamikazee-last-kiss/
but parng di Kamikazee eh..or baka am not just familiar with their voices..ehehe!
I'll need that. LOL
talaga Jing? maybe I was expecting more ooomph from the group or this song whoever adapted it...
ReplyDeleteparang mas gusto ko yung 60's
ReplyDeleteok din sya...for that era na arrive (dating) ehehe...gusto ko yung beat ng drum sa PJ version though, also this is also nice Ozz...
ReplyDeleteAgree ako...tila kulang sa birit compared sa nakasanayan nating Kamikazee sound.
ReplyDeleteHello Cat.
ReplyDeleteYes, I like the acoustic version too. Wala ba sa Itunes?
di na ako naka check sa itunes...in fact, san nga ba yung ipod ko...oh no...
ReplyDeleteOh yes, nandiyan lang yan. Trust me.
ReplyDeleteah yes, finally found it in the depths of...uhm..never mind...:-)
ReplyDeleteGlad you found your Ipod Cat.
ReplyDeletemy online buddy TEd has graciously let me hear his playlists of Beatles songs...hay..sana nasa ipod ko na rin...
