Even ducks...

March 3, 2009
Greenbelt Chapel
Makati City, Philippines

Didn't I feel a teensy little bit guilty at all?

There I was strolling towards Greenbelt 3 when I came across these ducks. (btw, pic taken with cam of my Nokia 6300 mobile since the ducks waddled faster than they could quack!)

Apparently they were on their way to hear mass at the chapel located in the garden separating Greenbelt 3 and 5 (where I came from).

I only hear mass on special occasions. After high school where we had the usual prayers and masses and other rituals religiously observed in a school like St. Theresa's College, I guess I sort of made up for it by not attending mass regularly afterwards :-)

But here were these ducks...and here I was going somewhere else.

So says I, didn't I feel a teensy little bit guilty at all?

Quack!

  3. You shouldn't feel guilty, Cat. This "ritual" is no longer forced on its believers. To think that one will be punished or will go to hell if such "ritualistic" obligations are not complied with, is old school thinking. It is also erroneous thinking. It's not a case of "carrot and stick." Many believers (Catholics and other denominations), still think this way. It implies a vengeful instead of a loving God. I'm sure the ducks were under no strict orders to go there or else suffer eternal damnation. Yes, Cat, even ducks are also God's creatures.

  4. thanks Chito...I admit its difficult to let go of one's ways when one is "trained" from childhood because of what one hears from the elders...

as soon as I could manage it, I only went to hear mass when feel na feel ko talaga...I prefer just praying by myself at anywhere where I feel the urge...contrast that to going to hear mass on Sundays or on Holy Days of obligation, I felt that I was being "plastic" just going thru the motions...surely God would know how I felt :-)

  5. mwahaha! ducks in hell?

and what pray tell would be their punishment supposedly? (parang in Dante's hell kuno)...which circle would they be?

  7. Just for the record Cat (and I know you"ll agree), there are many who go to Sunday mass sincere in their beliefs.

  8. of course, I agree...people go to church and hear mass for many reasons...some of them good, some of them for not-so-good din..but then who am I to judge? hehehe..certainly not somebody like me, but maybe the ducks could *wink*

  9. I was going to say, re-enactment of Prometheus being chained to the stone...this time, ducks are roasted eternally and ending up sliced and served on the plate of the devil himself...and the cycle goes on and on...

  10. Grabe ka naman Cat! This is so gory! Kaya ko nga sinabing Peking-bound na lang, eh :-)

  11. actually..hehehe..I found it funny...oo nga, weird yung sense of humor ko today...

this is probably an effect of just working from home since takot mahawaan ng H1N1 if mapunta sa labas..

  12. Baka echwan enwan na nga yun!

One indication daw of the AH1N1 virus in a person is the sudden development of black humor.

  13. really?

    teka..teka..almost naging biktima ako ulit...:-)

but I really found it funny - the picture of a duck being sentence to hell because di nag-attend ng mass..pagdating nya don sa gates of hell, he got poked by a trident, then stripped of all his feathers, then marinated and roasted. and served Peking duck style on a plate...(shempre alive pa rin sya kc hell to)...

the next time he wakes up, ulit na naman ang cycle...o di ba? di ba?

    *look of pity from Chito*

  16. You forgot. I don't eat uncooked food...

But I'll gladly share a bowl of Yakitori...

    ReplyDelete
  17. no I didn't forget *grin*

but, practice lang yan Chito..and all in the mind, masarap talaga ang fresh na tuna sashimi...there's no fishy smell to throw you off, and with the wasabi and kikkoman dip, its good...

believe me, it was worse ingesting bottle after bottle of Scott's emulsion..yuck!

  18. uy, may idea ako..

why don't we have something to eat at Little Tokyo along Pasong Tamo? Pearl is in Makati naman (if she is not flying off)...am not sure if F8 can escape, but if di sila, am game in July and upwards...

  19. Puede yan si F8. Basta siguruhin mo lang na kasama si G. Si Pearl, kung may lipad, ipa-abort natin ki Che.

  20. well, if weekday, I think its difficult for F8 to vamoose...hmm..and if weekend, Tagaytay naman sya, sa gabi I think nasa QC...

cge, ikaw mag plano and mag-organize *hahaha, biglang about-face*

    ReplyDelete
  21. Just as I thought. O, here's a bright idea. Why don't we leave it to either Pearl or F8 to plan it out?

    ReplyDelete
  22. hmm..kc I know Pearl is a bit toxic...and F8 has her work..

but since you have your life of leisure that we envy so much, we can vote for you to do the honors..besides...ayaw mo non...one thorn among the roses of Makati? *grin*

    ReplyDelete
  23. Ok,ok. I'll plan it then. But it shall be at my leisure (i.e. when and where I want it). And it's not so much because I'll be the only thorn among the roses. It's more like because I enjoy creating suspense and sometimes causing disappointments, hehehe...
