  13. I used to say this to chicks, "Liking you is just like eating peanuts. Once you start, you can't stop".

Peanuts, even though it is a legume, is the one that causes a lot of allergic reaction. Those who are allergic to peanuts, usually when they eat it, it is potentially fatal. That's why here in the US, all airlines have stopped serving peanuts on the plane. All packages that have nuts have a fine print that the products in those bags were processed and packaged in a factory where other nuts, including peanuts, were processed. My son, Richie, is allergic to peanuts, walnuts, pecan, hazelnuts and Brazilian nuts. But he can eat almonds, cashew, macadamia nuts and pili nuts.

  14. It sure is. I am just like you. I can finish a whole jar of it. But I won't.

  15. too many chemicals and man changing the Earth in his own inimitable way...ang daming allergies these days...

my college classmate who lives in Singapore was commenting to me..that in his day, he played with mud and even ate mud pie for a taste of it..I think back in Mindoro or was it some other province here in the Phils...and he is hale and hearty..his son, who has practically grown up in Singapore? well, just little something hits the air, and he gets sick...hahay!

hurray for us who were exposed to dust, mud and all those dirty, yucky stuff!

  16. speaking of peanuts, I think I remember reading somewhere about a movie star named Helen (I forgot her last name but its not Mirren, Hunt or the usual since she was way back ago)...

her hubby proposed to her with a bag of peanuts..saying he wished they were emeralds he could offer to her..

years and years later, he gave her jewels/emeralds (?) and said he wished he could offer her a bag of peanuts...*grin*

  17. So true. But peanuts are the number one culprit among nuts.

There was this incident in which this couple and their only son was invited to the husband's parent's home for dinner. They were serve kare kare, which has peanuts, and their only boy ate some. In a few minutes, he reacted to it and he started swelling up and pretty soon, he could not breathe. They rushed him to the emergency room which was quite a ways from them. They decided to stop by a pharmacy so they can get an EpiPen, an autoinjector with Epinephrine to counteract anaphylactic shock. But the pharmacist refuse to give it to them because it requires a prescription. The boy died from anaphylaxis in the parking lot. The irony here is that, the grandfather is a doctor. this happened in CA. The pharmacist also made a stupid decision for not letting this one go for once.

  19. ang tindi mo. nakakahilo yan at nakaka acidic :-))

  21. Masarap talaga ang pili nuts, marami yata yan sa Bicol region no?

Here, we eat breakfast cereal with mixed nuts, sarap :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. how sad naman this story..hadn't they known their son's peanut allergy and Kare-Kare is well known for having peanut in it..kawawa..

    ReplyDelete
  23. Absolutely!

    ReplyDelete
  26. cat, di ba dapat namimigay ka nyan?!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Cat, I hope your CR didn't become so busy after your pili nut orgy!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Sawaaaaap, Cat! Di bale nang tumaba.. haha... but re: your headaches when eating peanuts, that may actually be an allergic reaction. I used to have a staff who can eat all other nuts EXCEPT peanuts.. and when she does, her whole mouth burns, her throat closes up, and she breaks out like you wouldn't believe, had to take her to the emergency room... they said headaches are another severe reaction to it. Weird, huh?

    ReplyDelete
  29. You are right. Dito rin. That really makes sense.

  30. Oo nga, kawawa naman. They knew that their son was allergic to peanuts. There was a time when we were having kare kare for dinner at home and my youngest son would not come to the dining table to eat. So we asked him if he was hungry or not. He said he was be he could smell the peanuts from the kare kare. So we ate fast and served him another dish that he could eat. My son can smell peanuts from great distances. Guess he trained himself to be aware.

  31. BNK, Joel, pareho kayong "one track minded people". he he he

  32. Yes. There is a special tool to crack those nuts open.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Meron daw siyang toilet plunger...he he he.

    ReplyDelete
  34. pwede naman siguro ilagay mo between the hinges of a door?

    ReplyDelete
  35. hahaha..sorry, that didn't happen...I didn't get the urge to visit the CR after my orgy..I mean after I ate my pili nuts...

    ReplyDelete
  36. It has got to be a heavy duty metal door from a concrete building. That might not even work.

  37. sometimes...though I have weak moments like everybody else if down ang aking immune system...usually my sickness deals with respiratory..pero sa digestive wala masyado unless its food which is dirty (dinapuan ng langaw or di well-cooked)..

    ReplyDelete
  38. That's why there is a special tool for that.

Trivia: Did you know that Macadamia nuts originated from Australia? It is not indigenous to Hawaii. There is also a difference in harvesting them. Here, they hand pick them from the tree. In Australia, they let them drop to the ground and they use some kind of a tractor to rake them up from the ground and into a container.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hi Joey. I'm a Macadamia nut, i.e. I just love Macadamia. Is there a difference in taste due to the manner of harvesting?

    ReplyDelete
  40. hmm..I remember asking before, somewhere about this kind of thing as it pertains to rice...I couldn't remember the answer at that time, but this would be interesting to know...

*waits with Chito eagerly on the answer*

  41. Good question, Chito. I am assuming there isn't but I have not tried the Macadamia nuts from Australia. yet. So I can't tell you the difference.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Chito and Cat, here are 2 links that shows the history time line of the macadamia nut from Australia to Hawaii. I also stand corrected when I said that Macadamia nuts are harvested from the ground in Australia and in Hawaii, they hand picked from the tree. I didn't know that they are harvested from the ground here too after they fall when ripened.

  43. Hi Joey. Informative links, I should say. Found this one, too - http://www.macnut.co.nz/history.htm

What puzzles me though is that inspite the fact that the genus was discovered by a botanist named Muller, it was named after a certain John Macadam, a doctor who was also the Secretary of the Philosophical Institute of Victoria in Australia. Is this just because they were friends? Were they more than friends? Hmmm...sino kaya sa kanila?

    ReplyDelete
  44. well I for one like the name of "macadamia" nuts than "mulleria" nuts...

    ReplyDelete
  45. an absolutely nutty name if so Chito...

    ReplyDelete
This is just an assumption.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Rocky..sorry, I missed this post...

that is an interesting theory..baka nga allergic reaction ang headaches ko to peanuts...

speaking of kapilyahan...(which came about due to what I read of Chito's most recent posted reply here)...I remember kc my mom telling me when I was so much younger that brain food daw ang peanuts....

e tapos nag-he-headaches ako di ba?

so sabi ko kay mommy - kaya siguro nag-headache ako when I eat peanuts is coz sobra na ang aking brain power

*toink kay mommy na nahulog sa silya*

"well I for one like the name of "macadamia" nuts than "mulleria" nuts..."
