Would you believe I happen to like fruitcakes and wish they were available even before Christmas?
Way back in the mid-90's I treated myself once a year to ordering deluxe fruitcakes from this site.
About 10 years later from my last order, I remembered this site again because of a friend coming over from NYC...hence, I was again tempted...and gave in inspite of the tight budget :-)
Life is short, right? might as well make it full...full stomach...hahaha!

i dont think fruitcakes are boring. as long as they are generous with the nuts and the rhum, or what ever alcoholic thing it is they put in the dense, yummy loaf. =D thanks for the link Cat!
ReplyDeleteChiarz, *looks left and right*
ReplyDeleteI usually pour in my dad's brandy into the fruitcake I stash away..hehehe...
then my dad bellows during Christmas - "who has been breaking into my stash of brandies?" - and looks at me suspiciously...
(eh kc before, I got into the habit also of putting a little of his Carlos Uno or Carlos Primera as its called into my coffee...di naman every day mind you)
Mum ni Arno makes every year fruitcake..original German style..medyo makunat-kunat, kasi panay dried fruits, which she also dried herself..masarap..you just have to be ready, for the musical part, at may dried prunes..if you know what I mean!
ReplyDeletehmmm, u gave me an idea... how to make my cuppa more interesting, every now and then...he he.
ReplyDeleteby the way, my uncle taught me how to pour a bit of brandy to my ice cream cup too. magawa nga soon, he he.
ha ha ha ha,
ReplyDeletedo u know the song.. 'eat kamote the musical fruit'? i wish i could sing it to u! ha ha ha!
definitely--kaya nga I used it..I know this song..Mommy used to sing that to us then..hehehe..kasi nga sa effect..
ReplyDeletemag order na lang kayo sa akin ng Linzer Torte, nutty cake, but grounded yung nuts so hindi mahirap kainin, this cake lasts long parang cookie, with a forest berries spread on top and baked with, may schnaps which make it so aromatic..hayyyy masarap talaga..Xmas cake din yan dito..
ReplyDeleteI can also make a cheesecake, hayaan mo Cuh, when time permits, I'll make one when I'm there, using pineapple instead of peaches which is known here..if everything goes smooth, it could be na 26 or 27th Dec. kila Hugz tayo..I'd sure bring a cake or cakes..:)
ReplyDeleteCuh, may quark (cream cheese) ba sa Philippines now.?it's a milk product which is the first stage of becoming cheese, but still white, soft, but quite clumps na rin, that's what we use for Refrigerator cake or cheese chill cake with gelatine and egg yan, and whip cream..very refreshing bagay yan sa Phils. only, the ingredients should all be fresh kasi hindi siya i-bake (hehee..kaya nga chill cake) only the crust, like pound cake ang baked..
ReplyDeleteI just researched now, cream cheese and quark are two different, but similar items. depends where you are..if you know Philadelphia that's what Americans use and invented, but here in Europe and specially in Germany, "Quark" is that younger, underdeveloped cheese to to say, it's sourly and that's what we use for "chill cake" mixed with whip cream...I find Philadelphia tasty but fattier..
ReplyDeletehehehe..am really finding ways for having quark in the Phils. so Cuh kung may quark sa states malamang sa Phils. mayroon din nito product na ito..I googled this and found this site, sana may ganito sa Phils. then I won't have to pack quarks, at delicate and needs to be fresh talaga here, they're packed differently in Germany, but I believe this could be a good alternative:

best is, may German deli ba sa mga malls..heheh..
ReplyDeletefor the record am giving in an online supermarket, just in case kailanganin ko when we're there, I'd know where to look it up!
thanks Cuh1 http://www.lukullus.ph/
LOL! tama...prunes and raisins make the musical part pala...
ReplyDeletepero that would be a treat to try out...and comparing how the orig compares to the stuff being done by other people...and commercialized pa..
ah...this one I haven't tried, magawa rin nga...hahaha!
ReplyDeletewhen next we meet, pwamis? :-)
ReplyDeletehaha..sana nga Nona..but I think it takes so long to arrive here..
ReplyDeletewhich reminds me..I had lunch with Che yesterday and she said, yun ngang package mo yata...ayon..wala pa ring news...
yahoo! I happen to like cheesecake...blueberry or strawberry..but I've never tried pinepple..what a treat!
ReplyDeleteoh..I don't think I've see quark here...
ReplyDeletebut then again I'm only at Landmark or Rustan's ...though I would expect Rustan's to maybe have something similar...wala akong nakita...
calling anyone who does the groceries here in the Phils? may nakita ba kayo?
Philadelphia cream cheese I think I've seen here na...
ReplyDeletemaybe Ms. G or others have other delis they go to which they can find the Quark you are mentioning..its getting interesting..
lam mo..when I read the term "Quark" I was thinking about Star Trek....especially yung Voyager series...hehehe!
ReplyDeleteok, seriously...so its a brand pala...
well, I think delis here abound...I just don't to to them unless they are in the malls coz remember I just walk around here and use the public transportation sparingly...
ReplyDeleteam sure we can ask Ms. G, Meann and all the other ladies here who I bet are quite familiar where these products or alternatives to these products can be found...
ay, under renovation....
ReplyDeleteI remembered about it the other day..naiiyak ako, not because of the cost, but the effort rushing things and wishing wonderful thoughts that could make others happy, but even that I have to wave a white flag to...
ReplyDeletemay 2 kinds ng cheese cake huh..that one I've seen sa link mo eh mostly "chilled cheese cake"...yung crust lang ang na bake, meaning separate ang preparation nung crust, then the topping of cream, quark etc..formed with gelatine lang ang chilled sa ref to make it hard..
ReplyDeletemay other kind which is baked..hmm...kung sa beauty iba rin siya..eto ang fave ni Julian and Arno..but I don't know kung hindi kayo maasiman with this type..quark kasi is quite sour, but for Germans it's not hehehe..
we have Peaches, apricots, strawberries commonly added sa chilled cheese cake..makahanap nga ng recipe with blueberry...
I suspect too..well, siguro sa Alabang South Supermarket..I love to shop there..the fresh baked bread..hmmm...kakamiss!
ReplyDeleteoops talaga, when I entered there yesterday ok sya..
ReplyDeleteno, it's not quark is not a brand, it's a milk by-product like joghurt..if one processing milk to cheese, this is one of the first stages of it..kaya when quark is used for cakes it's called cheese cake...kasi nga yung stage nung milk is about to be cheesy..may mga milk bacteria changing to harden, sour etc.
ReplyDeletepero healthy siya nga..
the brand here is the "Appel Farm"
"Quark" is also used here as expression for "nonsense", I don't know why, siguro sa sound niya..(kwark)..hehehe..
Star Trek is good..hahhaha..
I finally received on August 23, 2009 the small fruitcakes I ordered, which Bong handily carried from NYC..thanks Bong!
ReplyDeletethis is how they look...

darating din yan Nonz...this year..pwamis...:-)
ReplyDeletehmm...well maybe the sourness is balanced by the sweetness of the fruits? am not too fond of sour stuff...
ReplyDeletebut chilled or baked cheese cake you wrote above, sounds mouthwatering to me!
ako I miss freshly baked pan de sal...even if its getting smaller, and smaller..and smaller...and...
ReplyDeletehmm...having "quark" as the term for a milk product is strange for me...para ngang scientific term eh..hehhe..but well, if its healthy, then so much the better...
ReplyDeleteI like eating yoghurt with fruits or even cottage cheese with bananas (the easiest for me to get hold of)...
Nonz, sure na ba talaga to sa December 2009? anong date ba kayo dito and when magkikita?
ReplyDeleteI wanted to buy a ticket na kc by first week of September para uwi sa Cebu...I suppose I can spend Christmas here in Manila, and hope to crash into the noche buena parties of the people here, or pwede rin ako matulog to catch up on sleep and rest hehehe...because if 26 or 27 magkita kina Sir B...I will have to go home after that date pa...
Cuh, i would say sure and pray for that, knock on wood..yeah..we're booked and have paid..may mga maliliit na aayusin na lang sa scheds, kaya am not posting anything yet sa calendar ko..
ReplyDeletefor now it's been planned and as per scheds of Hugz and Gwiz ok naman ang 26 or 27..siguro we could point more on the 26th..
so masaya ka na! hehehe...buti ka pa di tumataba..
ReplyDeletemeron yan...discreet fats ang label...mwahaha!
