Finally! Mozilla Firefox seems to work normally on my other laptop...here's what I did...

  1. I had Mozilla working well for me, until I installed a free anti-virus program coz I was a cheapskate...and then it directly crashed after that installation and could not start at all.

In a nutshell, the latest version, i.e. Mozilla 3.0.5 as of now is not stable..hence, try the following options:

    1) uninstall the latest version, then install an older version of Mozilla

I still have 3.0.13 on my hard disk anyway so no problem but you can still find the older version on the Mozilla site, just use IE for now to access it hehehe....

    here is the link: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

    2) if this doesn't work, try it this way:

    - uninstall the 3.0.5 using your Control Panel
    - go to your Program Files directory where the Mozilla Firefox folder usually reside (if you installed it that way)
    - delete the whole Mozilla Firefox folder
    - install the older version of Mozilla
    - reboot your pc (I like a freshly booted pc after such installations)

Presto! back to normal....or it seems normal....at least its not crashing now while I write this...

  2. I want to thank Mark Dizon (ehem, ehem) for giving me tip 2...

coz I was in the cycle of (at least twice) uninstall-install until I was wearing a teeth-baring smile....

......so I was wondering what was needed for a clean slate, and he said delete the darn folder..haha!

  3. my situation btw is the like this:

    OS: Windows Vista
    Mozilla: version 3.0.5
    antivirus: AVG

Mozilla never was able to be started after the AVG installation. It keep on showing the Mozilla Crash reporter (?) window and kept on popping that up unless you choose to Quit Firefox.

I finally went to the Mozilla site and looked around, and some tips said I had to look into the Crash report..which I couldn't do because the example was used on a Firefox browser....so how the heck was I going to do that if there was no link seen...or series of steps with where to go without using Mozilla...

I almost gave up when I though maybe somebody else will have tip...at least I know that usual way for stuff like this, is to keep the old version...it was just a matter of a few more tweaks...so lesson to all: don't give up!

  4. My Firefox version is 3.5.2. I just downloaded it recently (as in with in this week). Am not sure if what I had previously was ver. 3.0.5 So far, wala naman akong masamang experience. By the way, the anti-virus I have is an Avira AntiVir Personal version which came in free with the laptop.

  8. my antivirus (Norton) expired na kc...same with the MS products which came when I bought the laptop last December...so ayun...hanap ng free na lang..hehehe..

some people kc have been complaining crash ng crash ang Mozilla...siguro as one goes thru some additional programs etc and installations there will be a time wrong mix ...

hence usually I stick with older versions..to give newer ones a chance to stabilize...

  9. same here...ang bilis kc ng Firefox eh contra mo sa isa...I suppose there will come a time talaga na may conflict or something coz iba iba naman mga configuration natin - sometimes mag add ng programs, ibang OS etc.

  10. Hi Cat,

Maybe I'll try that. I switched to Google Chrome after dealing with all those crashes!

    Take care.

  11. well, you did say you were ok with Google Chrome...but then I guess I was too lazy to try something new and just kept on hoping Firefox would be resurrected on this pc...

  12. Thanks Cat,

I just uninstalled the new version of Firefox and reinstalled the older version. Let's see how it works. I'm using it now. Although I have to say that all the toolbars do make the screen look much smaller than when surfing via Google Chrome.

As I was typing I saw your reply. Give Chrome a try it certainly is a different experience.

    Take care.

  13. I use Chrome from time to time. I've no complaints. If you go for simplicity and uncluttered browser, then Chrome is for you, Cat. And as mentioned, you will have more screen space, i.e. if you really need it.

Subukan mo din lahat ng mga nasa toolbox sa upper right. Nakakatuwa.

  14. Thanks Ted and Chito...

this makes me curious, I will certainly give it a shot once I have time...after all I am forced to use IE for work, and Firefox for my personal surfing..so let's see how Chrome rounds the whole experience up :-)

I don't know if I have more screen space, but I really use up a lot of tabs actuallly..I have a tendency to open a lot of sites all at the same time...

and Chito..were the things in the toolbox in Chrome quite useful? or more for the entertainment value (you did say nakakatuwa...haha!)

  15. Well, useful is a very relative term for me (but so is nakakatuwa). There's one thing though that may be worth your curiosity - try the "incognito window" mode.
