I hope to visit and tour the northern part (Luzon) of my country, so as a first step, I've bought a Lonely Planet book on the Philippines...*cross fingers*
I admit I may have been smug and content already before about touring the Philippines, because I've visited most of the Visayas and Mindanao areas already, and except for Palawan, I've not been really that enthusiastic about going up North, but its time to rethink! :-)
How ironic that you have to get a Lonely Planet as a guide to your own country. Or is that issue written by a Pinoy? I guess it is okay for foreigners to use Lonely Planet as a guide to our country. After all, it would be from their purview. Wala ba tayong mga publications on local tourism written by Pinoys for Pinoys?
We had intended to publish something like that about a year and a half ago, but the team had too many other concerns that took them away from the project. =( Sana, we can resurrect it.
Trivia: Did you know that referring to the north as up (itaas) and south as down (ibaba) is a western way of looking at directions? To the Chinese, south is up and north is down. You can see this in their geomancy charts. =)
Ms. G, I fervently hope you will do so in the future...in fact, I volunteer my services in whatever way I can help out (short of carrying the books lang po hahahaha!).
I haven't really seen a good book on touring the Philippines...kaya eto, am forced to either ask friends who've been in those places, or keep this guide on hand... Its too bad I wasn't able to write down or take pics during my travels around Visayas and Mindanao all those years ago...but this time I'm more wise when it comes to touring the Luzon area...
Nice idea Cat to travel to the northern part of the Philippines. I have office mates who have went to Batanes recently and the pictures they brought back.wow! I've also saw pics of Vigan. Might be good to ask around also rather than rely on a travel book. The travel guides often showcase the "commercial" side of things. hehehe

I only began enjoying trips here in the Luzon area when we went to Capones Island...honestly, I am not that satisfied with what I've read written in the guidebook...*sigh*
