Five years lang?!
ReplyDeleteexactly Mommy Loy...ano ba yan? I'm sure there's the statistics of the usual hours people spend sleeping, going to the bathroom to take a potty break (excuse lang), scratching one's nose...pero 5 years lang in eating?!
ReplyDeletePerhaps in your case Cat,it is really an understatement. Here's an interesting read on this subject:
ReplyDeletehttp://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?_r=1&res=9B07E2D7173FE433A25757C1A9669D946197D6CF
And this one, too:
http://unasked.com/question/view/id/11177
Excerpts:
"GOING TO THE TOILET
Women - six months: It's a quick in and out of the lav for ladies. Few spend any time reading magazines in the bathroom.
Men - three years: Spending an amazing 40 minutes a day on the loo certainly clocks up over a lifetime, chaps."
Or if you're inclined towards the Biblical, here's one:
http://www.bethesdabible.com/pdf/sermons/Time_Well_Spent.pdf
just let me react to this before I go off and check out your links given Tochie :-)
ReplyDeletemy mom and I have this bad habit of bringing newspapers and magazines (in my case novels haha!) with us when we go to the bathroom...
so it got to be a refrain whenever my parents or I wanted to use the bathroom = "Oy! stop reading at once coz we have to {take a shower, pee, poo, brush my teeth, shave my beard, clean my bellybutton etc. etc.}"
hence I always told my mom, if I have my own house I'd be sure to install bookshelves and a comfy chair and design my bathroom to be bigger than usual...teehee!
for the first link....e pano yan...on the sex stats...that would not be equal among men and women dapat...they may not have factored in how diverse the sex partnership is these days :-)
ReplyDeleteah...eto na ang proof from Tochie's first link: (recall this is an average person ha and apparently is British...hehehe...sama ba si James Bond dito?)
EATING
Women - four and a half years: Time spent sitting down at the table to eat is fast diminishing as many busy women eat on the go.
Men - four years: Long lunches and scoffing snacks eats up a long time in a man's life
I'm sure I'll have spent a lot longer than 5 years by the time I'm done given all the time I spend leisurely eating.
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable but true!
ReplyDeleteHere's how they might have arrived at the numbers:
30 minutes a meal x 3 = .5 hrs x 3 = 1.5
15 minutes coffee breaks x 2 (2 times) = .5
Total = 2.0 hrs. per day
2hrs x 365 days = 730 hrs/year spent eating
24 hrs x 365 days = 8,760 hours
8,760 hours divided by 730 hrs/year = 12 years (to make 1 full year)
If a person is 60 years old
60 divided by 12 years = 5 years spent eating
If person is 50 years old
50 divided by 12 = 4.16 years spent eating
If person is 35 years old
35 divided by 12 = 2.91 years spent eating
(Late night donut cravings obviously are extras - your mileage may vary.)
That's not true in my family. I remember posting this sign in the girl's bathroom : Magazines only. Books not allowed!
ReplyDeletewhoa...you do have patience :-)
ReplyDeleteand now I've determined..based on the premise that is it 30 minutes per meal, with snacks...etc. that I've spent 3.25 years of my life in eating...
I think though for us Filipinos, we take a longer time for meals...esp when we go out...I know for a fact that a meal with the Ks is like from breakfast to dinner with no breaks in between :-)
eh, pano na yung Pugad Baboy ko....di pala allowed..huhu!
ReplyDelete*yes, if its newspapers, I always steal the comics section first*
same here Ted...
ReplyDeleteunless of course its urgent..but...during my mealtimes..I do other stuff too (watch tv, fetch more food and condiments)..so a 30 minute meal is just too fast for me...
..unless...we are referring to Rachael Ray's preparing those meals...:-)
Food seems to taste a lot better when eaten slow and in between conversations.
ReplyDeleteha ha ha Party Pooper pala tayong lahat ha ha ha pare pareho pala tayo ha ha ha
ReplyDeletei like your idea BATHROOM LIBRARY...kaya lang di ba me sign sa Library na "PLS . BE QUIET" ha ha ha kaya dapat with Silence lagi ha ha ha
Farting Not Allowed and Sigh ha ha ha sa sobrang CONSTIPATION ha ha ha
Ewan ko Val. Parang mas type ko yatang magbasa kung medyo pleasant ang amoy ng lugar, :-)
ReplyDeleteyou can digest it better and of course, you can taste every molecule of flavor :-)
ReplyDeletethe conversation of course, adds the icing to the cake..
ehehehe...but actually, since its the cleanest (and most disinfected part of the house), I just go there to sit on the toilet without doing anything (ok, maybe pee sometimes) sometimes I get so embroiled in what I am reading, I don't remember the other things I am supposed to be doing in a bathroom...
ReplyDeleteok, maybe something is seriously wrong with me..hehehe..what next..yung library may throne in the middle of it?
hahahaha! I am suddenly thinking...in medyo poorer environments...you can bring in a komiks na cheap..tapos ..gamitin mo after *wink*
ReplyDeleteat wala na akong other comment on this..as usual..off-tangent na naman...
On the weekends my wife and I may spend two or more hours at a nice restaurant leisurely enjoying every dish. I often do other stuff whilst eating if I am eating alone.
ReplyDeleteHi there!
ReplyDeleteIn some article, I read that it's suggested to hang a wall clock in the toilet, so you could watch the time - if you really want to do that.
Or scare them off by saying that, if they stayed too long seated on the throne and notwithstanding their interesting activity, the practice can actually induce contracting the dreaded hemorrhoids - sige sila!

mealtimes are to be enjoyed...but I guess there are times when one really has to rush through it...and the times like when you and your wife enjoy a good meal and conversation...
ReplyDeletehi Choie...
ReplyDeletewe had a clock before which emitted a musical tone every 15 minutes...and it was hung on the wall of the bathroom...so you would know when it was say...12:15, 12:30, 12:45 and 1 o'clock...but nope..it didn't help...:-)
am not sure that kind of thing will work with people nowadays...the'd probably google the subject and come up with counterpoints to the dreaded hemorrhoids you mentioned :-)
