May 3, 2010 is a regular non-working holiday in lieu of May 1, 2010. But...its not as if I have money (just got an increase in taxes) to go anywhere...and its a little late in finding this out. Hay..life in the Philippines....always surprising! Bleargh!

ReplyDeleteDeclaring Monday, May 3, 2010 as regular holiday throughout the country
WHEREAS, Proclamation No. 1841 dated July 21, 2009, declared the Regular Holidays, Special (Non-Working) Days and Special Holiday for the year 2010;
WHEREAS, Republic Act (RA) No. 9849 dated December 11, 2009 amended RA 9492 dated July 24, 2007, which in effect supersedes Proclamation No. 1841 where May 1, 2010 (Saturday) was declared as a Regular Holiday;
WHEREAS, RA 9849 provides among others, that Labor Day shall be observed on a Monday nearest May 1, which happens to be on May 3, 2010;
WHEREAS, a longer weekend encourages families to get together and strengthen their relationship towards a more productive environment, as well as promotes domestic tourism and enables employers to plan their work schedules effectively and efficiently, resulting in improved productivity, which is achieved whether the holiday falls on a Friday or Monday;
WHEREAS, RA 9849 allows the modification of the Regular Holidays and Nationwide Special Days by law, order or proclamation.
NOW, THEREFORE, I LEANDRO R. MENDOZA, Executive Secretary, by authority of Her Excellency, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, do hereby declare Monday, May 3, 2010, as regular holiday throughout the country.
The Department of Labor and Employment is hereby directed to issue appropriate circular to implement this Proclamation for the private sector.

ReplyDeleteI still do not understand this non-working holiday. Is this another "only in da Philippines" coined words? This statement implies that there is a "working holiday." Holidays should all be non-working; otherwise, they shouldn't be called holidays.

ReplyDeleteyes, there are "working holidays"......sometimes I think they call it here as "special working holidays"...siguro special kc working..hahaha..weird no?
but, I googled a bit...siguro may ganon sa US, isip ko..and may nakita akong nagpost - "think of Presidents Day or Martin Luther King Day here. It's a holiday, but it's not a "day off" holiday." quote. unquote.
now I am not 100% sure if thats the case now in the US...but setting aside the example..then yes, people work on a "working" holiday...actually there may be cases, when the government office is closed...but some businesses are open..
e ako nga may working vacation...LOL..but seriously, thats only because I try to keep up with some of my mail...

ReplyDeletebtw, did you know spas here are quite cheap? cebu spas are actually also cheaper than here in Manila...
in fact there are a lot of spas in Cebu (and more's the pity I don't frequent them)
Are these spas with natural hot springs?
ReplyDeleteam not sure if there are some of them like that...am such a shy type when it comes to spas that all I have in mind are those with body massages, foot spas, facials etc. but in a building...
