An officemate was tempting me with this smartphone instead of iPhone...hmm...in the end, I still have to save up for a trip abroad, another camera...this cellphone and gifts for Christmas...http://www.htc.com/uk/product/wildfire/specification.html

  2. hehe..yeah..coz well, for my cellphone its just for texting mostly..and a few calls now and then...

I still use my laptop for surfing the net, movies, and social networking...besides my Treo is still around, a bit old and bruised and wonky..but hey, I can live with it...di nga lang quadband for a Japan trip..but its not happening always...

    ReplyDelete
  3. I still have my Clie Palm pilot. For my cell, I now use the Nokia E71 which functions like my palm and the BB. I use my Mac to surf the net, movies, editing photos and social internet.

    ReplyDelete
  4. oh di ba? would you prefer to do the latter activities in just your smart phone?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Not sure yet. Maybe someday. My phone has internet capabilities but I deactivated it. I didn't want to pay $30 a month when I could get it free at home or any place with a WiFi using my Mac.

  6. good point...now unless they come up with a phone na pwede mong ma-unfold na ang screen can be large enough to view comfortably when sitting down or at a mode na pang phone when traveling ...I feel I prefer a bigger screen unless mabilisan nga ang gustong i-surf..

    ReplyDelete
  7. IPad would have been good but it doesn't have internet capabilities...yet.

  8. that reminds me..sino ba yung buddy ko sa FB (kc mahirap na hanapin san yung post nya)..he was one of those who got one, medyo tekkie...di sya nasayahan with iPad...

  9. Maraming chinks in its armor pa. They have to resolve those issues to make users really happy just like the users of their computers. I know, I am one.

    ReplyDelete
  10. kapag expensive stuff na ganito, I prefer not to be on the first set of people who buy 'em..though some do like to be the first to try out (and get aggravated..hehe)

  11. In the marketing adopter bell curve, yun ang mga innovators. You and I are in the late majority.

    ReplyDelete
  12. well, if bayaran nila tayo to try it out Joey..am sure we will be more than happy to do it *wink*

otherwise, get the bugs out peeps and let me pay for it at your high price without getting frown lines...

  13. ito ba ang LX5? ganda pala ah...

    ReplyDelete
  14. ay ayaw kumabit ng pic...anyway...it looks good...bakit nga ba ito ang preferred cam mo cat? may canon and nikon naman? i just want to hear it from you or joey...

  15. Go for it Meann. I have the LX3 version of Leica and I am sure the LX5 is a great camera. It has the Leica f2.0 summicron lens, a very very good lens. It takes very good photos. You won't regret it Meann.

  16. i was really eyeing for a good camera in HK, maybe I will try to look for it in SG. ano review sa camera na ito. Joey?

  17. no this is not...this is the HTC na phone...

ang Panasonic LX5 ay yung pinost ko before...san na ba ang link..teka...hanapin ko at ilagay ko dito..

  18. eto ang LX5 Meann...

thanks to Doc Philip who was the first to alert me to it ages ago....

  19. the answer is medyo simple lang...

if mag DSLR (which was my next step from my point and shoots) - they are big and heavy...I prefer to have smaller cams where I pull out and take pictures without wrangling with bags, straps and other stuff in the way..plus with bigger sized cams, I'm always a target for being stopped for taking pictures...grrrr..even with my Fujifilm point and shoot would you believe...hence I want a smaller and powerful one

secondly, the most telling argument for me is this - sa mga experienced photographers na tinanong ko...I said if wala yung DSRL nila ...ano ang backup camera na gagamitin nila..
most of the time they said LX3...

    so tumpak :-)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Your next step (in my opinion and from a practical standpoint) is still a point-and-shot kaya lang yung bagong labas ngayon na changeable na ang lens. Medyo mahal yang DSLR kaya kung di mo naman magagamit ng husto ngayon and for your current puproses, just save the money for later.

    ReplyDelete
  21. if i can sell my LX3...i'd get an LX5...its an improvement from a really good camera...all the things you wanted missing on an LX3 is here...i wanted a better zoom, they added it....its light, can fit a jacket pocket....more reasonably prized than a GF1.
    my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  22. yep, hence I've actually thrown away that plan, and am saving up for LX5 :-) its still not a DSLR..

actually way back in February pa...I was already moving towards the Olympus Pen (interchangeable lens na)...kaso nga lang e bago lang din yon..and still a bit bigger than the LX3...hence I didn't buy.
I was thinking - which comes out first the EP2 or the next generation LX kaya? sinong maunang lalabas e yon ang kukunin ko..

funnily enough, the LX3 was not that easy to get hold of here...naka out of stock usually..so I was happy to wait..and LX5 is making its debut na this August, so all works out well indeed to those who wait..(in other words, if walang pera muna..antay, at darating din)

    ReplyDelete
  23. ay..inggit ako...si Tito Rudy bibili while in Singapore yata...ako naman I want to buy din..but for sure super mahal dito sa Pinas...

kung online naman, patay sa customs...
    kung dito naman, wala pa...

aha.Joey, can you please check with them if makadaan ka if they really have international warranty here sa Pinas for the LX5 if its bought abroad? just in case? please?

I've really learned my lesson with the Olympus I bought in Japan...sabi meron e wala pala.....thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  24. thanks joey and cat for your replies...i think i am now convinced to get the Panasonic LX5. i wonder how much it costs?

    ReplyDelete
  25. mga USD 500 last time I checked...

btw if medyo serious ka rin, do check out EP2 :-)
ang ganda rin ng labas ng video and pictures nya...though its slightly bigger than the LX3...and has interchangeable lens..

in fact there was this one commercial in the US I heard, that was filmed entirely using that camera...ang ganda ng labas..and to think Olympus cam yon...

anyways, if you ask me...and I have extra money, I'd go with this LX5 and the EP-2 (but the latter is more expensive though)....

    ReplyDelete
  26. Cat, if you need testimonial on the iPhone, hope this will help you decide.
I started using it when it was 2nd generation (G2) and the latest is G4. Aside from the phone feature, I use the iphone to take pictures often, browse through Multiply, FB and the internet, find restaurants in the area, listen to music, watch video, etc. The keyboard isn't very user-friendly though, but in my case, I don't text as much, if I do it at all. G4 has flash in camera, video, front and back camera feature -which means you can do video conferencing and see who you're talking to on another line -live, if the other party has the same G4. It integrates very well with my MacBook Pro, and the iMac at home.

Sounds like Lumix LX5 is a winner.
What do you guys think of the NX10 by Samsung? It is a mirrorless DSLR-style camera thus is more compact and light.
    http://www.dpreview.com/previews/SamsungNX10/page4.asp

    ReplyDelete
  27. naku Doc Phil...magtatampo ang LX3 ninyo po if sh hears you...

    ReplyDelete
  28. thanks Mar, as it is, that link above was given to me because it was an alternative to peeps who wanted iPhone but found the price prohibitive...though nobody disputes the features of iPhone..even earlier models...

in fact another choice was HTC Desire - it is not as expensive as iPhone 4 but still more expensive than what I'd be willing to shell out (or can afford to shell out is the more accurate declaration). After I bought my last iPod..and noticed that there were some cheaper ones with similar or more functions (naku, China nga lang)..I decided I have to be a bit practical na :-) its difficult to indulge my kapritso..hehe...

thank you for your input above....as far as budget-conscious consumers like me go, may I have those at a cheaper price? *wink*

    ReplyDelete
  29. hmm..I wonder how Samsung as a brand for cameras would sound...parang mas ok ako if Micro Four Thirds na Olympus pa rin...

come to think of it...why..if its Micro Four Thirds nga..di naman Panasonic na version?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Buying from the gray market is always tricky. Usually, the warranty is covered from where you bought it from, e.g. Japan or Singapore. You just have to ship it. BAsta ingatan mo lang and you won't have any problem with your camera.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Think it is about $450 here. I haven't seen one yet locally. Only thru the web.

    ReplyDelete
  32. If the IPhone could use another carrier, I probably would have bought one. AT&T signal sucks. I am not sure if this is true but now if you sign up for an IPhone, your contract with AT&T is 5 years. That's a hell of a commitment, isn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Perhaps you've heard this too Joey, that come January, Verizon will carry the iPhone.
Based on my experience, I agree with you on AT&T's many dead spots. I am waiting for January to come and see if I can switch, in the meantime if one is to buy an iPhone, it's "mandatory 2 years sentence" with AT&T or $600 to choose whatever carrier you want.

    ReplyDelete
  34. hi Joey...

hmm..I don't think it was the gray market..I bought it officially through a big store in Japan which specializes in electronic goods with different brands...think like Abenson, Anson, even SM Dept Store :-)
Come to think of it, mas mahal din ang labas kaysa if I had waited and bought it a couple of months later in the Philippines..oh well..

I hardly every buy from the gray market - in fact, di nga ako bumili sa Quiapo ng DSLR though at one time I was seriously tempted.

Anyway, when I checked out the website of Olympus later when I came back..yun nga..wala silang international warranty, regardless of whether you bought it thru their official distributor or through an authorized channel...tsk..tsk...

same with Kodak I think, coz I bought mine also in the US, again a good store, not gray market, pang US lang ang warranty nya...

    ReplyDelete
  35. arah..di uso ang iphone dyan na open line pala...

    hmm.I wonder here if pwede...

    ReplyDelete
  36. I heard that some carrier will start using the IPhone but I did not know it would be Verizon. That's good though. Getting an UNLOCKED IPhone is risky because you cannot update your software anytime they prompt you. Apple always does that with their hardware. If you accidentally do that with your unlocked IPhone, it will freeze it and thus one cannot use the IPhone anymore. That's what I was told by my TMobile Agent.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Maraming Unlocked IPhone daw dyan. Ask Choie. She uses an IPhone. She can give you a better idea.

    ReplyDelete
  38. if you buy here Joey na unlocked na phone for example...so di pwede gamitin Sim dyan ng taga anong company?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think you can. All my phones are Unlocked so I can use them anywhere that takes a Sim card with the exception of Korea. Iba ang system nila, unless you have a 3G or 4G phone.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I've just been to Globe where I breezed through their displays of the iPad, Blackberry Curve 8250 and BB Gold...as well as the usual iPhone...hay....at least I was able to touch *grin*

    ReplyDelete
  41. Sarap ba mag touch/window shopping? You ever tried the Nokia E71? Best phone I ever used.

    ReplyDelete
  42. hehehe! touch shopping is so great....I learned the beauty of such shopping before when I touched a Mac way back in the time I had my first job *wink*

yes E71 was also on a display here before in the other Globe store...

    ReplyDelete
  43. Wonder how much that costs nowadays? Can you let me know when you stop by Globe again.

    ReplyDelete
  44. usually its free with a Globe plan I think...coz thats what I saw before...

    ReplyDelete
  45. I let my fingers do the walking kc umaga na..hehee..baka di ako makagising to make my rounds later in the mall (oh dear, I promised pa naman to check out HTC units)...

but if its correct, you can see its much cheaper now..
    http://www.cgena.com/344-det/Check-Price/Nokia-E71.aspx

    ReplyDelete
  46. Honga ano. Sabi nga nila around over P20,000 daw yan before. I got mine when I upgraded so it was half the price. Normally, it was selling here for $600.00 (P27,000 dyan). Now, I see it here on the web for like $200. But I swear by this phone. It is really good.

    ReplyDelete
  47. the plan is a bit expensive...maybe its suited for those who use their phones a lot for calls....I try to limit mine and use landlines...I can't stomach the idea of signing up for a Php2K plan per month or up? eeek...

    ReplyDelete
  48. don't tempt me please...naka-blinders ako ngayon..focus ako sa LX5..sasagasaan ko sino mang daraaan sa aking harapan..maski cellphone pa yan...LOL

    ReplyDelete
  49. LOL:-)

btw, I checked with Lighthaus camera and Leica is not going to come out with the LX5 equivalent yet so I could not really make a test drive for now. I think around September or October, they will release it. I haven't found one in the stores yet but I will keep my eyes peeled for it.

    I will keep you posted.

    ReplyDelete
  50. thanks Joey! no rush, baka after sa Japan trip (if matutuloy) na ako makabili din if ever....timing din siguro mga kilala ko nakabili na ng LX5....so tamang tamang..around Oct na test or November..:-)

    baka uulan ng pera hhehehe...

    ReplyDelete
  51. Kasabay ng typhoon...LOL. Bakit di ka bumili sa Japan?

    ReplyDelete
  52. after what happened with my Olympus sa Japan, ayoko na....:-)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Ay, bad experience pala ang nangyari sa yo. Forget about it then.

    ReplyDelete
  54. yung hinaharp ko palagi na bumili ako ng Olympus sa Japan tapos di pwede international warranty? ...thats what I was referring to...not super bad naman..but its just a bummer nga that even if official distributor...walang international warranty dito sa Pinas sya..huhu...oh well...lesson learned...

    ReplyDelete
  55. Malabo pala yung deal nila na yun ano? Bummers talaga.

    ReplyDelete
  56. hi cat, check engadget.com, for reviews on what else...gadgets! they have good comprehensive reviews on the latest phones.

    ReplyDelete
  57. thanks for the tip Manuel :-) I shall!

    ReplyDelete
  58. oo, kc ang hirap naman e babalik pa ako sa japan para ipaayos..hehehe (may excuse mag trip don ulit)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Actually ang proper procedure is you should go to the authorized dealer of the camera you bought from Japan. They will, in turn, ship it to Japan at the cost of postage but the return postage is free specially if it's warranty work. Tamad lang siguro sila para gawin yan. Alam mo naman ang Pinoy, sometimes they don't want to lift an inch.

    ReplyDelete
  60. hmm..you may be right...as it is, may coverage sa Japan, pero wala sa Pinas, so they will say they will fix it here, but of course you pay...(o magkapera nga naman)...

I've never had that option presented to me for all the stuff I brought outside which had authorized dealers here, its the same refrain "no international warranty", bayad dito.

    service oriented daw tayo...tsk..tsk...

    ReplyDelete
  61. tsk tsk tsk.. I guess wala tayong magagawa ano:-(

    ReplyDelete
  62. this kind of topic makes me think, China labor is cheap, but service and attitude not so good these days...

We Pinoys pride ourselves on our being smiling, hospitable, service-oriented...parang kumbaga we can sniff and say, oh we have an edge...
    But until when?

Phil market is a bit small...hayan ang ibang bansa, malaki, maraming resources...sooner or later the things we say that make us Filipinos have the advantage over other folks may well be just one of those things na ma overtake or would be found also in others...we got to differentiate ourselves...

bakit pa ako napuna sa topic na yan bigla...

    ReplyDelete
  63. Ewan ko:-)

    Siguro frustrated ka lang:-(

    ReplyDelete
  64. frustrated na gutom...I just noticed mag 4 pm na pala..wala pa akong lunch...hehe...o cge, mag emulate muna ako ni Old Mother Hubbard...

    ReplyDelete
  65. Ang lunch ko kanina? I had salmon burger on a toasted sesame bun with dijon mustard and maraschino peppers. I had sans rival cake for dessert. That's the one Myra baked for me last April for my birthday. We kept them in portions in the freezer so we can enjoy it for a much longer time. I had water for my drink.

    Why do you ask?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Wow! Kumpleto down to the dessert. Pero teka, may nakalimutan ka yatang banggitin. Anong gamot ininom mo? Hahahahaha....

    ReplyDelete
  67. kc my cupboard was bare..so memorize ko lunch ko that time.. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  68. Time to refill. Go shop for food and splurge to your hearts content!!!

    ReplyDelete
  69. these times I wish I had that replicator in Star Trek...

    ReplyDelete
  70. Baka naman fake yung pagkain pagka ni replicate:-)

    ReplyDelete
  71. hmm..I never saw Captain Picard get sick on it though..hehe!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Well, I was never really a Trekie so I would not know..LOL!!

    ReplyDelete
  73. aha! when talking about you to others, I shall be doing Klingon-speak....

joke lang Joey, di naman ako Trekkie, but I did try to watch all of its shows...from yung original, yung kay Capt Picard (TNG) at saka yung Voyager..but not to the point I can memorize everything per episode that I would know what kind of food the character ordered...*grin*

    ReplyDelete
  74. btw Joey, nag msg yung classmate ko before sa akin sa FB..saying something that nakita na daw nya ang LX5 dito sa Manila..mga 35K PHP yata...

baka sa Hidalgo eh Php25k or less lang :-)

    *mutters "mahal pa rin"*

    ReplyDelete
  75. thanks to Manuel, I checked the site...http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/28/htc-wildfire-review/

    and I've saved money...

    di na ako bibili muna...LOL

    ReplyDelete
  76. Nakita ko nga yung post mo tungkol dun. Tama ka, mahal pa rin. Dito it is selling for under $500 yata, I think. Tingnan mo sa Amazon.com or B&H Photo. Baka naman pwedeng i-ship sa akin then pwedeng dalhin ng brother ko sa November. Yun ang BF ni Marian, remember? Uuwi sila sa Todos los Santos.

    Sige, i try mo.

    ReplyDelete
  77. cge, tingnan ko sa Amazon or B&H photo if ok ba price (pero mas gusto ko sana na-hands on mo na at na-singhot..hehehe) with the S&H and if they will accept credit cards na di issue sa U.S.

kailan uuwi sina Marian at yung bro mo? yeah, I remember her, napabitbit ng pastillas..haha!
    until when sila dito?

if all goes well *cross fingers* wala nga lang ako dito sa Manila the first 2 weeks of November (or at least, Nov 2 upwards)...

    ReplyDelete
  78. Tingnan mo kung uubra. Iam sure that won't be an issue. Just let me know.

Marian and Tony will be there sa Todos los Santos, Nov 1 & 2 and I think they will be there for 3 weeks. Si Tony babalik in 2 weeks yata.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I see...naku, kc Nov 17 target ko balik sa Pinas...

kailan ang kanilang next trip..baka kc the price will go down by next year :-)

btw, Tito Rudy also said he will take a look at the FX700..cheaper yata daw by 100 USD...oks din..

    ReplyDelete
  80. Panasonic din daw..Lumix FX700...tapos 14.1 mp..

    ReplyDelete
  81. di yata..point and shoot sya Joey....wow! eto lang kababasa ko lang kc busy ako kanina...

eto ang na cut and paste ko sa unang site nakita ko...

    ++++++

The FX700 is Panasonic's luxury point-and-shoot, built to perform in dim settings like clubs, bars, and concert venues, and slick enough to fit in as a fashion accessory in the VIP lounge. It's a clear competitor to the Canon SD4000, so it faces some tough competition. The imaging specs are up to snuff – 14 megapixel MOS sensor, 24mm wide-angle, 5x zoom, f2.2 max aperture, 1080i HD video – but we fear that the interface could be the Achilles' heel.

It's a touch-screen model, which we dislike for all kinds of reasons (battery life, wonky menus, sunlight, and greasy fingers among them, though the touch-to-focus feature is useful), especially when it comes to manual modes – we had a brief hands-on with the FX700, and one aspect that jumped out the difficulty at changing shutter speed when you can only use a finger. There's some interesting technology within, but the interface gives us pause. Find out yourself for a smooth $400.

    ++++
personally ayoko rin touch screen...di nga ako bumili ng Polariod na cheap lang don sa SM eh..

    ReplyDelete
  82. In that case, this camera is not for me. I want as much as possible less bells and whistles so I can control the camera myself.

    ReplyDelete
  83. yeah, even for point and shoot...oh well, back to LX5 :-)

    ReplyDelete
