Ingredients:
1 baby cucumber (approximately 100 g), washed
2 tablespoons thinly sliced leeks
2 large basil leaves, shredded
400 grams fresh sashimi-quality tuna
black sesame seeds (optional)
1 1/2 teaspoons ginger, grated
Ginger Dipping Sauce:
1 1/2 teaspoons grated ginger
1/2 teaspoon dark soy sauce
Directions:
1. Place the leeks in a small bowl of cold water and soak for 5 minutes. Drain, then pat dry with paper towels. Shred the cucumber into thin, long strips. Set aside.
2. Combine the shredded basil leaves and sliced leeks in a bowl. Add half of the grated ginger. Toss well to combine. Dice the tuna and combine with the earlier mixture.
3. Prepare Ginger Dipping Sauce. Divide the ginger between 4 small sauce bowls and top with dark soy sauce to taste.
4. Divide the tuna mixture into 4 equal portions. Place each portion on a serving dish. Sprinkle with black sesame seeds if you prefer. Garnish with reserved shredded cucumber and serve with the Ginger Dipping sauce on the side.
Preparation time: 15 minutes

Kawawa naman yung baby... cucumber.
ReplyDeleteKawawa naman yung baby.
ReplyDeleteif you read Harry Potter...remember yung mandrakes?
ReplyDeleteUgghhh!! Parang aborted baby!
ReplyDeletewell..you started it...
ReplyDeletePero ang layo naman sa baby cucumbers!
ReplyDeletekc Tochie...plants din yon..with babies :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, I get it. Ok.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this recipe Cat! Mukhang masarap, will try this in the near future!
ReplyDeleteahaha...parang I can imagine your disgusted expression when I read this...
ReplyDeleteI like tuna..ang sarap in soups and of course sashimi...
ReplyDeletewhen I used to go to Gen. Santos, it was a treat for my mom when I brought home super fresh tuna blocks...quite good in a clear soup with pepper leaves
You're imagining things again Cat. You need to feed.
ReplyDeleteplease don't say that...I just watched True Blood on HBO and now am thinking of vampires...and when you say "feed"....
ReplyDeletePlace the leeks in a small bowl of cold water and soak for 5 minutes.
ReplyDeletewhat is the reason behind this?
clean up? make it crispier and more "fresh"? enhance its flavor coz its now colder temperature?
ReplyDeleteare you guessing? lol...
ReplyDeleteabi nakog basin to remove some of the bitterness.... are leeks bitter ba? i don't know how it tastes like raw eh... pero i think the 'crispier' thing is the most logical answer..
I've tasted leeks before, but I confess most of the time man god, I used it for scrambled eggs...(gipul-an na ko ug sibuyas dahunan na gagmay man)...I've not noticed that its bitter...maybe because its cooked when I used it most of the time. Also mas taas akong tolerance for bitterness and spiciness so baka its normal to me :-)
ReplyDeleteI shared this recipe, but mas gusto ko tuna sashimi as is...diretsahay...
btw, leeks are good daw yata if you have colds or such some related illness...
Does that include bitter memories?
ReplyDeletenope...that one I just chuck out of my mind...e limited na nga memory ko...at kulang ang aking hard disk sa utak..wala akong external spare HD kaya...yung memories which give me most happiness are in the cache..ready to rise up :-)
ReplyDeleteAkala ko may Drive E ka sa tiyan?
ReplyDeletelol, you two are impossible!!!!
ReplyDeletecorrection...although may recycle bin ang aking stomach..I do regularly empty it..naka-script na yan..hehehe...
ReplyDeleteAno ka? Sabi mo dati nag de-defrag ka lang.
ReplyDeletedefrag sa mind...
ReplyDeleteibang usapan na ang tyan no....its for the continued health of my stomach! pano na rep ko if magkasakit ko kc di ako nag regular housekeeping sa aking bottomless bin?
Na alala ko tuloy yung isang story. Ito i-quo-quote ko na lang para sigurado:
ReplyDeleteWhen the body was first made, all the parts wanted to be Boss. The brain said, "I should be boss because I control the whole body's responses and functions." The feet said, "We should be Boss as we carry the brain about and get him to where he wants to go." The hands said, "We should be the boss because we do all the work and earn all the money." And so it went on and on with the heart, the lungs, and the eyes until finally the asshole spoke up. All the parts laughed at the idea of the asshole being the Boss.
So the asshole went on strike, blocked itself up and refused to work. Within a short time the eyes became crossed, the hands clenched, the feet twitched, the heart and lungs began to panic and the brain fevered.
Eventually they all decided that the asshole should be the boss, so the motion was passed. All the other parts did all the work while the boss just sat and passed out the shit!
Moral of the story : You don't need brains to be a boss - any asshole can do.
Hindi yan applicable sa Nike fan like me.
ReplyDeleteand that is the lesson they should teach in Business school...
ReplyDeletebut wait..you don' need business school to learn this..
just try working for a while in diff companies, and you will see this moral lesson...
You've gone to one, di ba (AIM pa naman). You should have introduced this as your thesis, hahahaha...
ReplyDeleteay..ang moral lesson naman with the MRR (the thesis) is this...
ReplyDeleteit doesn't matter what you think, what your proponent thinks, or what your classmates think...
just write the thing the way you think your MRR advisor wants you to write it....
:-)
Parang eksena sa Forrest Gump:
ReplyDeleteDrill Sergeant: Gump! What's your sole purpose in this army?
Forrest Gump: To do whatever you tell me, drill sergeant!
Drill Sergeant: God damn it, Gump! You're a goddamned genius! This is the most outstanding answer I have ever heard. You must have a goddamn I.Q. of 160. You are goddamned!
:-)
ReplyDeleteand its true...its a simple truth and a fact of life...
you want to pass? (I used to attend yung mga beer pubs for the batches of MMs which came after our group sa AIM, and you get inevitably asked these questions)
so answer ko - give them what they want...never mind what you want...
