Due to a drive in National Bookstore for sending books to disadvantaged children, I revisited "Mga Kwento ni Lola Basyang" (The Stories of Grandma Basyang), specifically the "Plautin ni Periking" (Periking's Flute) story. I chose and paid for this picture book which would be given to a child or shared by said children in Albay. Would you believe I've not even read it it...but I hope it brings joy to the child and encourages his or her imagination!

For my friends who may not be familiar with this, from wikipedia:
ReplyDelete"'The Stories of Grandma Basyang)' is a compilation of stories written by Severino Reyes under the pen name "Lola Basyang".
There were about 500 stories written and its themes center on silly kings, brave adventurers, kind peasants, strange people, places and treasures.
All of which contained moral lessons that the readers could ponder on.
It was translated into komiks, radio shows, movies, theatre plays and even on television. In fact, Lola Basyang has become a legend and a Filipino icon synonymous with storytelling."
Komiks adaptation of one of Lola Basyang's stories....picture from the internet...
ReplyDeletei would love books like these? is there a section in national bookstore that sells filipino klasiks?:-)
ReplyDeletehi Chelo...I haven't seen any in National Book ...but then I haven't actually been active in looking for them...pero this one morag comics ni sa una pa nga wala na sila magreprint....
ReplyDeleteyes, wouldn't it be grand if they do this again...lately ang nakita ko is more of children's picture books like the one I mentioned above..a little different than these pero colored pod and in Tagalog..or Pilipino diay...
I'm still looking for the book about the cleanest pig in the world, I forgot the title. It had lines like: "Aanhin pa ang baboy na di man lang naging chicharon?"
ReplyDeleteeeeh??? really? di naman kaya yan kay Gary Lising...hehehe...
ReplyDeleteits hilarious thinking about it...
Our nephew Diego was given this book when he was about 5 years old. all the adults loved the book.
ReplyDeletehow can pigs be the cleanest animals in the world I wonder?
ReplyDeletemaybe if I tether it and not let it roll on the mud and keep bathing it?
the title is "ang unang baboy sa langit" =)
ReplyDeleteThere you are! Trust Chichi to remember.
ReplyDeletemygosh..may review pa sa Amazon...hahaha...este...oink, oink!
ReplyDeleteand...
*reads further* naging patron saint pala ng pigs ha...
indeed I agree a charming story for children...
maganda rin the way this story can help kids be more aware and value cleanliness!
