there was a third earthquake I think before 8 pm Philtime tonight...same...Dumaguete and Cebu affected...I was just listening to the news when the reporter being interviewed said he felt the earthquake...but I don't know how strong it was...hopefully not as bad as earlier....which my mom said took some time to taper off
I was just chatting with my teammate in Belgium...and she commented it was just getting too much..every so often there's a quake..and I said I am really surprised at all the quakes where I thought there was no history of quakes (remembering NZ)
The quake hit 70 kilometers (44 miles) north of the city of Dumaguete on Negros Island at 11:49 am (0349 GMT) at a depth of 46 kilometers, the US Geological Survey said.
The US Geological Survey website placed the epicenter of the earthquake at 46.6 kilometers deep, some 72 kilometers north of Dumaguete City, 74 km west, northwest of Tagbilaran, Bohol and 80 km west, southwest of Cebu City.
What do I know about earthquakes? My layman impression is that the tectonic plates are shifting that is why we have all these earthquakes and volcanoes erupting. It is nature, unpredictable, there is a lot more information that we don't know about.
The biggest one hit Cebu at around !!:45 or so. There has been over 700 after shocks since last night. We're all ok, thank God. My grandson Wanco (who was home because of a fever) said last night: I was not too scared Lola, only medium scared because I'm a brave boy. He was home with the maid yesterday.
State seismologists on Tuesday morning reported it has recorded more than 700 aftershocks from Monday's magnitude-6.8 quake that struck the Visayas, and warned of more possible aftershocks in the coming weeks.
Yes, including government officials(Building Inspectors) who approved the plans and supposedly inspected the buildings to make sure the building code was followed.
Glad they are safe and hope and pray everyone is okay. How strong is the quake?

ReplyDeleteits a bit unsettling to know that there's a lot of unknown plates or faults pa yata na di na na-map (looks gingerly at the ground)

I heard sa Negros may namatay nga like children..and there were say 100 dead in Guihulngan (?) sa Negros din.
