A flurry of snow in Cinci

Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

I did mention to some friends that upon my arrival in Cincinnati, Ohio my manager thoughtfully presented me with borrowed stuff from his wife - coat, gloves, scarves, hats...enough that I could make a fashion statement every day of my stay here.

One thing which amused me though was the mask-like thing he also had me borrow..this time it was his hat/mask - it could cover the ears, and at the same time, protect the mouth area as it had some anti-bacterial cloth one could pull up to cover one's mouth and nose. His daughters gave it to him when he had to dig through goodness knows how much of snow in this year's blizzard.

The drawback? It reminds me of a robber about to hijack a convenience store :-)

I don't have pictures of myself wearing the other stuff, but earlier this afternoon, I did go walking around Cinci in the cold and snow as I wanted to take pictures of the buildings I had seen. Unfortunately, it was a bit difficult to maneuver and juggle my camera and bags due to the gloves I had on.

I was particularly thankful though that I had chosen my manager's hat to use today as snow suddenly came down, then a gust of wind every now and then completed the afternoon's weather offering.

As a mad thought, I took out my cell and took quick pics of myself, covered face and all...don't I look warm and toasty?

Last picture here was taken where I usually get my bagels and  milk for breakfast...at least last year that is what I did (I survived on this diet) - umandar yung pagka-thrifty ko and I used the balance of the money for food, buying something else....like...books...I want to go to Newport on the Levy all in a sudden din...tsk!

The temperature ranges (in Fahrenheit now) I experienced were approximately from 23 to 38 degrees. Brrrrrrr.

No wonder most people seems to be obsessed about weather here...it can make life pretty difficult - you just don't worry about food, but about the cold which could freeze you to death. At least I can now say I've experienced fall/autumn and winter-like weather...wheeeee!

  5. hmm...maybe di na stereotyped na middle eastern-looking mga terrorista..hehehe...

the snow kept blowing into my eyes though, so that part was still unprotected..

  6. well, for someone like me who is not that used to cold weather, its good and bad...my body and feet are ok (even if am using open shoes with just socks as protection)..

but my head and hands are susceptible to the cold winds blowing...and since we are near Ohio river...it can get nasty since I run to the office before 8 am...

  10. actually, this thursday, I felt a fever coming on..mainit mata ko and katawan..could be because of the cold weather, puro hot showers...or baka lack of sleep...I hope I can relax maski konti bukas..

  11. That could be the start of a good thing :-)

I almost also took the horse-ride..pero comfort won out and I said I am going to get my cold butt and nose into the hotel na...

  14. You might be getting dehydrated Kat. Better drink plenty of fluids. Cold weather could be deceiving that you think you might not need water but you do. Lots of hot tea will suffice. Make sure you have some Tylenol too.

  15. hi Des,

my gulay...gusto pod ta ko West Virginia (tama ba)...ang problema ra gyod oras ug kwarta...hehehe...

btw, Dicky has been sending a couple of emails, could be that she, Elenita and Carmel and I will meet up when I fly back to Sanfo...mga Nov 29 siguro..

but since Lei-Ann and Elenita don't drive, we may have to drive down to at least one of them (medyo layo na si Lei-ann..2 hours siguro or more padolong didto)..

well, I liked the snow also..luckily its just flurries once in a while..but my face and hands are drying out maski anong lagay ko ng lotion...so its painful sometimes...my ankles and body are loving the cold though..

    ReplyDelete
  16. thanks for the tip Joey...eto..nakatingin muna sa weather channel...

but I think di ako dehydrated, more of lack of sleep yata to and all those hot water showers...and di rin naman ako nag-pe-perspire...

am sure about the dehydration part..coz I have drunk so much water and tea (maski tap water na nga)...

nag pack ng biogesic, hiningi naman ng isa kong kasama sa class, sumama yung pakiramdam nya..

  21. para kang Ninja kid..gagayahin kita at pag malamig and windy, I get easily pains on my face...it might sound funny pero manipis ang skin ko and true is that...

well you look good with borrowed things, hindi halata..ganya ang weather dito today, it might even snow nga eh...brrrrrr....

  22. you shld be wearing tights or we say here long underwear or underwear-stockings...

    ReplyDelete
  23. its very practical Nonz...I was jokingly telling my bossing that if he had one in pink or red, I'd be quite happy already :-)

its only the coat which is mine...although I did bring a wool beret hat and my fave scarf (its the only one I have kaya favorite)...

for the coat, I got lucky and managed to buy one which had the inner padded lining as removable...so I can use it in the Philippines...or even the inner coat if I just take out the tag if the cold weather is not too much...or combine both...good buy nga...

no matter how good they look and feel, I've snubbed the peacoats, trenchcoats, leather jackets etc. which I see here...

    ReplyDelete
  24. funnily enough...even if my lower body has no extra covering beyond the lower portion of my coat, I don't feel the cold that much like on my head and hands...so even if I have no tights..am ok ...so far lang ha...I might be singing a different tune once I get to NY...excited na..won't let any colds or germs keep me down...

    ReplyDelete
  25. oh when you get to NY, that would be quite similar to ours, at times they have more extreme temperatures..good luck! and wear tights there...

    ReplyDelete
  26. one thing I noticed today...that as more time passed by when I was outside, I could tolerate not having any covering on my head...but the other people passing me by had hats and hoods coz it was 5 pm and up already...either it was all in my head or am tolerating the weather the longer I stay outside....hehehe!

  27. Nasanay ka na rin ha. Ganyan talaga. Pag uwi mo sa Pinas, mamimiss mo yung lamig.

    ReplyDelete
  28. oo nga...ang sarap magbalot tapos maligo ng maligo without being sweaty-smelling at the end of the day..hehehe...

on the other hand, am drying out din (skin-wise)...and mainit ang mata ko sa hot water baths ko..so nakakamiss maligo sa malamig na tubig..

    ReplyDelete
  29. VEry refreshing talaga maligo ng malamig na tubig. Ako naman sanay na sa hot water because it helps improve the blood circulation in terms of getting your body warmed up and getting loose.

  30. I think many Filipinos adapt easily to the temperature. I remember some winters in spent in Europe (Naks, sosyal ang dating. Mwahahaha!) I went outside wearing only flip flops and yes, without any head gear. Pinagalitan ako. I will get sick daw. Di naman. =]

  31. Cute ng ilong mo. Namumula-mula pa.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Pst, ang sarap ng may kayakap dyan! Go, go, go! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  33. they said I was probably adjusting pa...in fact it was funny on my first night in New York....Bong and his brother were shivering and jumping about...ako naman, naka open ang coat at nag-wave-wave lang ng hat...

it was like that for them at the start din daw...but later, ayun...brrrrr ang dating..hehehe...

but I went to Liberty Island yesterday...it was pretty cold..even for me na mahlig ng cold weather...di lang natablan dahil even if sweater lang ako..cashmere naman..so ayun..pinawisan...which my friend said - sobra daw naman ako..hahaha!

    ReplyDelete
  34. my nose was the first to go and dry out...even if super oily pa yan dito sa Pinas...grrrrr...

    ReplyDelete
  35. that reminds me...complaint ko yesterday dito sa NYC to the friends ko:

"inis naman ng weather na to! how can I see cute guys when lahat parang lumpiang shanghai, balot ang katawan tapos naka-scarf and hat pa!"

    mwahaha!..in fairness...sometimes may naka-bare din...galing siguro sa gym..

  36. Talagang terrorist ang itsura mo wearing the balaklava, baka ikaw lang ang nakasuot niyan. Usually balaklavas are worn only in severe weather conditions. Sa tingin ko sa photo it didn't look severe with blizzards. Anyways, apply lotion to your body para di mag dry yung skin mo, also apply chapstick (lip balm) on your lips para di pumutok ang mga labi mo. The secret to being warm is in layering your clothes - thermal underwear, your blouse/dress, sweater, coat, scarf. wear warm gloves or mitts. You should look fashionable in your winter attire. Get rid of the balaklava but wear a toque.

  37. hi BNK!

thanks for the tips...oo nga super dry nga ang labas..pero its more with my fingertips...nakabaon na ako ng burt's beeswax..but am afraid sa hands ko...maski anong drowning in lotion walang nangyari yata...parang sponge yung skin ko...

also, since naka-ankle boots ako..medyo di din sanay ang legs ko so may konting rashes, yes..even with the high socks...waaah...

may pics ako ngayon pero ganon pa rin coat ko..so di obvious am fashionably attired underneath..*grin*

my cashmere sweaters have been a great help...its usually those plus a blouse or tshirt on top..and am set to go..nope, di ako nag thermal undies though...

    ReplyDelete
  38. am back in Philippines...at last I can sweat more comfortably and sexily...este..naturally...

meaning, I was sweating under my sweaters in NYC...but of course I could not take them off and had to walk around swaddled like a.....like an infant in swaddling clothes...:-)

coldest I experienced was around 10-14 degrees Fahrenheit..but..in Cincinnati yan..not NYC .....*dancing around* and walang snow sa NYC..ay!

  40. Nice to see you're back Kat. Make sure you get back into the swing of things gradually OK. Now you can finally thaw out.

    ReplyDelete
  41. *sigh* I didn't bring my kodak cam..so missed a lot of panoramic shots...esp when I was in Sanfo and NYC...oh well, paunti-unti lang and pakonti-konti...
