Perhaps there was no food/resto/eating scene.
ReplyDeleteuhm....*cranks up memory cells*
ReplyDelete*lightbulb*
wala nga!!
I liked Audrey Hepburn in Love in the Afternoon and Roman Holiday best.
ReplyDeleteI like all Audrey Hepburn movies. But my all-time favorite is Two For The Road where she co-starred with Albert Finney. During my younger days, this was my ultimate romantic-comedy movie. I also loved the theme song which, for a while, was my own private theme song.
ReplyDeleteHere's an excerpt of the dialogue (as published in wikipedia; Joanna and David are Audrey and Albert), "...while Joanna dines with David and they witness a couple eating together without saying a word, David asks, offhandedly, "What kind of people can eat an entire meal together and not talk?" Joanna replies, enthusiastically, "Married people!"
Funny/witty movie! Perhaps I'll revisit it one of these days.
"Make something wonderful, out of being alive" - from the movie trailer:
"If yopu're feeling fancy free
ReplyDeleteCome wander through the world with me
and every place we chance to be
Will be our rendezvous
Two for the road
We'll wander through the years collecting souvenirs
and living life the way we choose . .
Yes, this is a very beautiful song indeed.
I hope I got those lyrics right. I think you finally found Cecill to wander through the years with. Lucky you!
Thanks Lou. In the immortal words of Yoda, "I, indeed, lucky am."
ReplyDeleteYup, you got the lyrics right save for a few jumbled words. Here's the complete lyrics of this wonderful song:
"If you're feeling fancy free,
come wander through the world with me,
and any place we chance to be,
will be a rendezvous.
Two for the road,
we'll travel through the years,
collecting precious memories,
selecting souvenirs
and living life the way we please.
In summertime the sun will shine,
in winter we will drink summer wine,
and any day that you are mine,
will be a lovely day.
As long as love still wears a smile,
I know that we'll be two for the road,
and that's a long long while."
Yes, there's an uncanny likeness of what Cecill and I have been through and the song (and perhaps the movie, as well). Our very first date (which was just about a week after we met) was on a trip to nowhere with an unknown itinerary. Only one thing was certain then: we both wanted to go to regardless of wherever it was and however it was going to be, revealing the wanderlust in us.
I really enjoyed her in Roman Holiday...but her performance at Breakfast at Tiffany's also made me think of her from my usual...
ReplyDeletethis is so romantic..
ReplyDeleteon the other hand, the practical side of me these days, if presented with this kind of situation, would be wondering if the guy am going with (who is not even somebody I know very well) to an unspecified place with an unspecified itinerary e baka chainsaw-wielding psycho....LOL...
ah..correction..kc Pinas tayo...machete or bolo na lang kesa chainsaw...
Now, this is your kind of movie. Sa title palang, may pagkain na, hehehehe....
ReplyDeleteHahaha...you really have a very fertile, if a bit morbid, imagination, Cat.
ReplyDeleteActually, kaya ganun kami kasi yung isa kong kaibigan invited us for a trip to an island called Cabra Island, a place that neither Cecill and I had no idea where since my friend did not specify. We were also clueless as to how we were supposed to go to the island except for the information that we were going with a group of pilgrims to a place in the island where supposedly an apparition of the Virgin Mary occured in 1966*, and that we will be hitching a ride on a Philippine Navy ship which was going there to deliver supplies to their military contingent in the area. The uncertain part though was that we did not know if the ship was actually going, and at what time it was going. So we stayed and waited at the supposed rendezvous/assembly area practically the whole night till the wee hours of the morning. Speaking for myself, it did not really matter if the trip was pushing through or not. What mattered was that this girl whom I just met a week ago was comfortable being with me.
In the end, the trip did not push through (and our friend did not show his face!). So we decided to just take a walk (a long one) from the Manila north harbor to Luneta park! Which was just swell as we ended up just talking to each other oblivious of time and place.
I hope one of these days, we will actually go to Cabra Islands.

honga....but at the time I saw it I was still a little girl..di pa ganon ka lamonera....hehehe (only because as I got older, mas malaking lamon..before as a younger version smaller quantities lang...but not in relation to size...hahaha)
ReplyDeleteoy..bridge yon, bridge! hehehe..sinet-up kayo
ReplyDeletesana nga makapunta kayo ni Cecill..it will be fun to see the "place where you almost had your first date".
ReplyDeletemaganda rin ang Mindoro eh, still pretty unspoiled islands surrounding it (baka naman makadaan kayo sa tamaraw)..
Actually, no. My friend did not know Cecill then and he also did not know I was going to take her along, :-)
ReplyDeletethen all I can say is..it all works out the best in the end..meant to be talaga :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't deny the imagination tag...pero these days, with all the news and such, di na yata morbid tawag nyan...ehehe...
ReplyDeleteYup. But between that first date and the altar date was an ocean of ups and downs, a veritable wild roller-coaster ride.
ReplyDeleteAng tawag diyan, "twilight-complex" (from the Twilight movie) hahahaha....
ReplyDeletekasama yan sa "meant-to-be"
ReplyDeletewala naman akong mention of a vampire or werewolf ah...
ReplyDeleteYes, but one could never know. Just like in the first date, everything was uncertain.
ReplyDeleteHehehe... medyo malayo nga pero what I meant was something related to bloody and gory :-)
ReplyDeleteah...isip pa ako bigla if may chainsaw ba si Edward or Jacob..hahaha
ReplyDeleteif kausap mo yung mga believers ng destiny...e yung uncertainty e kasama din ng "meant-to-be" (kulit ano, ayaw talaga pakawalan)
ReplyDeleteRudy and I started off as friends in the Movement. We went on trips with other members to the parishes around the archdiocese to give teach-ins (funny how that word evokes memories of the DIictator). When we sort of found each other as more than friends, the nightly walks through the streets of downtown Cebu commenced.
ReplyDeleteBig things start small.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm..."movement," "teach-ins," certainly evokes memories of the dark days of the dictatorship. Add to those terms, DGs and long march, and you're right back in the 70s again.
ReplyDeleteOne question though: If you guys met during the movement and eventually became a couple, you must have had a very long engagement! Probably five years or more... Nakaka-bilib si Rudy!
We met during the tail-end of the 60's. Ang dali nga eh - we met October in 1969, became friends then something more by February. Basta to make a long story short, we were married by November of 1970. Ang bilis nga!
ReplyDeleteWhen we got married and stayed in an apartment, our place became a convenient meeting place for the guys in the movement.
ReplyDeletedah oy..dugay baya guihapon..I thought it was a whirlwind romance..within a month na married na mo....hahaha!
ReplyDeleteIn our case, we met in April, went our separate ways three months later, renewed acquaintances in November. Had a real bad quarrel, did not speak to each other for the next five months, somehow found each other again a month later. Started going out for a few more months. Decided to elevate the level of our relationship one day in July and started planning and saving-up for a wedding. Put up our wedding fund one day in September in the casino on a game of Black Jack and won. Decided to push our luck and held each other's hand in front of a priest in the midst of friends before the month of October ended.
ReplyDeleteWe've been pushing our luck since. Some days are good, some are bad. But on the whole, it's been an excitement. So far.
This reminds me of another 70's term - HQ. That's the term we use to refer to the place where we meet. It was also a term for a place much sought after by the "Hapon."
