After a sumptuous seafood galore adventure on May 5 (happy bday kang May!), Sunday on my part meant a must-see zoo in a bit more dangerous place than we use to remind the children. I hopped on a cab (first cab ride hereabouts) and just asked the driver (we had an interesting conversation..seemed he came from Ethiopia) to zoom up to the zoo.

I hate zoos. I'd rather see animals in their natural environment.

yeah, it would be cool to go on a safari to see animals that way...
unfortunately, most of us can only make do with what we have...I mean, I for one would dearly love to visit Africa someday and be content to see from afar these animals..
one thing I can thank zoos for is that young children get exposed to animals and develop respect and love for them...unfortunately the way animals are disappearing from the face of this planet..pretty soon, we may only see these animals in faded pictures, or even in other zoos where it may be the only place you will see them alive...I hate poachers and people who take these animals from their natural environment and sell them off to people who will either make sport of these, or worst case, just keep them for the novelty of owning something exotic...

Like or dislike for zoos depends on one's dominant disposition in life I guess. I used to love zoos and went to a small one in Quezon City almost everyday because I wanted to see "strange" animals face-to-face. But now I don't have visit the zoos in my itineraries nor even my slightest intention. Bakit kaya?

I think this was Father Aguilar's zoo near the Quezon Memorial circle, later on taken over by the Lamplighters. Went there too, several times.
