Rant: Laying a big, fat egg..with melamine

30th of October 2008

Makati City, Philippines

Mood: droopy-eyed tiredness

This is a rant. A short one though.

I am tired, irritated and wish I could just go on a slow boat to Hawaii. No kidding. It has been a long month and I am sort of losing steam already. It is not going to get better by November and in the midst of this I am treated to unsettling news.

I can’t remember when I first heard about eggs with melamine - probably it was last week. It has been a blur. *yawn* Can’t even go to a lovely party tonight. Darn.

What is this world getting into? WTH?

Did the chickens drink melamine-tainted milk?

Did the feed they were given originate from some animal or plant which had melamine poured over it?

Did the chickens reside near the milk or an industrial factory producing plastic with melamine? Were the eggs injected with melamine?

I just don’t get it. I’m just really dense today, probably.

Before I thought they’d blame the cows for the melamine-taint on the milk. Tcch! Blame the humans, who else would be good at altering the environment?

Next thing you know its steaks with melamine, softdrinks with melamine, melamine-flu?…

My gulay! Everything will be tainted with melamine except the leather and plastic it was supposed to reside in.

Darn again.

  1. Hi Kat,

Most recently, WalMart just disposed of thousands of eggs from China tainted with Melamine. What a waste! You are right. Blame the humans. We are the worst in changing the environment and also we are the most dangerous predator of animals.

Don't know what's going to happen next.

  2. You are tired Cat. Get a rest. Lie down and do nothing. Don't even munch anything, nor touch your camera, nor read anything.

  3. Hi Cat. How about going to a spa and spoiling yourself?

  4. Hop in on the plane. Halika na dito, Kat. It is time to relax, kick back, recharge your batteries and enjoy the Aloha spirit! We'll take care of you.

  8. what a waste nga...things like this happen and we have pigs and chickens slaughtered...

I felt sad when I saw a news footage about parents being concerned about candy being handied around during Halloween...baka kc may melanine tapos makain sa children...

festivals like this are being spoiled over such problems...I wish I could go back to a simpler world or sa probinsya...snatching an egg from the pet hen downstairs, pointing out sugarcane from the garden and asking my lola if I could eat it (hint hint na ipapaputol ko hehehe), watching fireflies flit about sa starapple trees...

ngayon eto..tumitingin ako sa itlog with a critical eye...

  9. this is good advice..the time to relax is when you don't have time to relax...

actually, ang ginawa ko is I finished all of my dad's leftover coffee candy (hehehe..nag-sugar rush pala) and continued with work..I know that if I try lying down, in 2 minutes, I would push myself up and sit myself in front of the pc again :-( talk about being OC...

..was going to ask para magpahanap ako ticket either from Sanfo or NY diretso sa Hawaii :-)

if matuloy *cross fingers* you can bury me under the black sand sa beach and leave me there to fry...Aloha and Mahalo Joey! you've made me smile....sa vision lang na nandyan ako..parang nakaka-relax na...gamitin ko muna imagination ko...

  14. ah..I saw this on a tshirt back in college....

    nakasulat to on the front:
Which comes first, the chicken or the egg?

answer at back (in small letters at may arrow pa)

when I turned around to watch the guy wearing it pass by...

written on the back of his shirt was...

    "Island Feeds!"

    ehehe..at may address pa yata...

am not sure if naabutan nyo yung Island Feeds...but it does manufacture feeds for chickens etc.

  15. I experienced that kind of lifestyle many years ago. Those were the good old days and it is good to reminisce them. Now, I can only tell those stories to my kids. Maybe if we visit again and go back to the province in Quezon, we might experience it again but I doubt it.

  16. Bwahahaha...para kang si Myra. She doesn't really like going to those place kasi pag sa bayaran, mai-stress lang siya. Kaya ako na lang ang nag mamasahe sa kanya. Ang kapalit, good food and movie tickets.

  17. Cat, just do it and make it happen. No ifs or buts. You can also use your power of visualization para matuloy.

  20. Mukhang walking advertising yan...actually, T-Shirts are a very good medium to advertise, or probably one of the best ways.

  21. "was it done para mas madali mangitlog ang manok or para maging malaki sila..supposedly?"

melamine synthetically increases protein content. so its for the protein. yata. i dont know anymore.

    "good old days"

our times are strange. we were already doing the right thing before just taking from what nature naturally intended.

  22. It is all about mass production nowadays. Quality has gone down in exchange for quantity. Sad ano.

    ReplyDelete
  23. sad and it turns out hazardous to your health. huhu.

  24. like how I read din na di ba ok ang diet ng mga Japanese? fish/seafood, vegetables...

but parang they are turning their back (not all naman) on what worked before, and kumakain sila ng food which is not as nutritious as their original diet...

    ReplyDelete
  25. hmm...I wonder if ang tokwa magkamelamine din kaya...

  26. sometimes nga I feel sorry for the younger peeps nowadays...iba talaga yung naka-experience ka for example ng fireflies sa gabi, tying a string to a beetle's leg and having it fly around...even yung pagkain ng frogs from the rice paddies...

  27. Kat naglaro ka rin ba ng Salagubang? Pina-pag away pa nga namin sila. How about trumpo?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Salagubang, no. Spiders, no. I'm not afraid of them. I just was never cruel to animals and insects ;P Hehe.
    Trumpo? YES!

  29. Nung bata pa ako, I used to hunt with a sling shot and have killed some birds, rats, and what not. Pero ever since I hit a cat with a nunchuck and saw him bleed from the nose, I promised myself not to hurt any animals anymore except pests like ipis and alupihan.

I am glad to hear you played trumpo. Nakakabili pa ba ng trumpo diyan? I would love to get one someday. Magaling ka siguro mag-trumpo. Si Guia daw kinatatakutan sa trumpo. I was also good with that. Can you make it spin on your hand too?

    ReplyDelete
  30. me me me! my playmates were turumpo masters. pero ako hinde. natatakot ako baka dumugo yung palad ko pag pinasayaw ko sa kamay ko ang turumpo. in my province pinipirito nila ang salagubang at inuulam hehe

    ReplyDelete
  31. naku..ano ba yan in bisaya? in ingles? nadidinig ko ang salagubang na word sa kanta lang yata..and I have no idea anong trumpo...trumpeta comes to mind when I read that word..mwahaha!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  33. Actually, nakaka kiliti yan kaya hindi masakit.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I only tried it once. Medyo malutong but I forgot the taste. Parang bizarre foods ano. Yung mga kalaro ko they used to roast them nung sa Philam kami nakatira. Marami kaming nahuhuling salagubang sa agoho tree namin.

    ReplyDelete
In a few seconds tulog na yan. Tranquilized na. Pwede nang lutuin. Hindi sila nangangagat.

Ang trumpo naman is actually a toy top made of guava or sampaloc wood and spun with a string and a tanzan attached at the end of the string. I think Boboy has a picture of that sa isang posting niya earlier this year whenhe traveled up north to Sagada. Look it up.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Meron pang trumpo. =]
Di ako marunong magpa-ikot sa kamay. Di rin ako magaling. Marunong lang pero feeling ko limot ko na ngayon kung paano. =[
