I hear people say "Think out of the box!"...and I always think, "What box? For me there is no box at all!".

  1. Not knowing or not recognizing "the box" is in itself thinking out of the box. This is a sign of one's creativity. But it is also helpful to know and understand the many "boxes" so that one can avoid repeating the mistakes in some boxes.

  2. Speaking of boxes, I learned something during my trip to NZ (surprisingly not from Google or Wikipedia this time) about boxes and boxing. I learned that "Boxing Day" has nothing to do at all with the sport of boxing! Boxing Day is the day after Christmas. And it is called boxing because it refers to the activity of putting all items put out on display during the holidays (decors for homes, and items for sale in stores), back into the boxes where they were stored before the start of the yuletide season.

    Sounds logical to me.

  3. TFS Tochie...that is something I have wondered about but never thought to research on...I really thought there was a boxing match a long time ago after Christmas day to celebrate it or something kaya may Boxing Day *blush*

it does sound logical (I hope you are not again putting me inside your pocket ha) or else ilagay kita sa balikbayan box the next time we meet and ship you to Santa Claus para ma-torture ka nya :-)

  4. Well, I thought it sounded logical. It really depends on whether you think I am logical (or have the capacity to be).

  5. Mr Tochie is very logical in his terms...some would say, "box them in or box it up". which means same logic...the only boxi know in the human body, is the voice box!!!..hahahaha...patawa lang ako!..hahahaha...

  7. Variations On A Theme:
From what I've read somewhere before, "Boxing Day" refers to Old England when the "Lordships" send their servants home to be with their families during Christmas day. But before the servants leave, they make sure that their Landlords are okay on their own for the next few days the servants are gone. They prepare cold cuts and sandwiches, other kinds of food to make sure dear Lordships don't go hungry thus (in a nutshell), Lord Edward and family will have their lunch or dinner "boxes" ready for consumption.

  8. Careful now Angie. In some English vernacular, "box" in human anatomy (female) may not be square at all....hehehe.

  10. Personally, I don't know anyone who thinks inside "the box." I mean which box are they talking about? It would be impossible for most people to think inside "THE" box because the world is just too big and I suppose even if you chose to put "THE" box in a really populous place like China, say Beijing, it is still a hassle for most people to go there just to think abut something. Although they could just be saying "THE" for dramatic effect, but that leads to another problem. Most boxes are simply too small and uncomfortable to think inside. I don't know about you, but my home is too small to waste space for some big old refrigerator box or the like. We have lots of boxes at my office, but again they are just too small. This whole notion that anyone would think inside boxes is just ridiculous.

    That's my two yen!

  14. Another thought of "think out of the box"...means don't confine yourself or thoughts in just one area only!... we must be thinking out of the box to survive in this world...think beyond the reasonable doubt of anything...to broaden our minds not like a tunnel vision to achieve or accomplish a goal...make use of our knowledge to think further above & beyond...(^_^)

    ReplyDelete
  15. what if that box is inside of a box and that box is inside of another box.........creating a tunnel of boxes?hahahahha pasensya na ginulo ko yung boxes mo.I know a person who knew so much about BOXES coz he collect boxes!

  20. a variation of the variation :-)

From what I had read somewhere:

    What is Boxing Day?
It was created to give thanks and assist the less fortunate in the community.

Boxing Day is a day the higher classes gave gifts to the lower classes. Before or on December 25th people of similar class would exchange gifts to celebrate the Christmas season. Gifts were not exchanged with the lower class until the next day called Boxing Day. It is also known as St. Stephen’s Day.

Why is the holiday named Boxing Day?

The holiday is named Boxing Day because the tradition of giving gifts of cash, food, clothing and other goods to the less fortunate were placed into boxes for easier transportation. The goods were distributed based on the family needs and their services to the giver.

Boxing Day officially began in England in the middle of the 19 century under the rule of Queen Victoria. However, many adults and children do not know the true meaning of Boxing Day and its reasons for celebrating. It was a day to thank the community for all their effort throughout the years. The maids, drivers and other service workers were thanked with gifts of food, money, clothing, and other goods. It is important to teach students how they can contribute to society and to understand not all families are able to provide for their families all of the time.

  21. Ted....its definitely more than 2 yen worth of thoughts on this topic and boxes...ehehehe...

    ReplyDelete
  22. hahaha! I actually tried to imagine this being done...and I had a vision of all the people in China being inside their own little boxes....all boxed up too...

    ReplyDelete
  23. that is also an innovative way of thinking about it :-)

  24. you know...I remember the eating place...yung fastfood ba yon na Jack in the Box...masrap yata burger don...

    ReplyDelete
  25. the problem though is that its easier thought and said...than being done...

I've always been in awe of people who could solve problems in a very creative and un-thought of way before...they change our world!

  26. who? who collected boxes? wouldn't all his living area be full of boxes na?

actually that statement reminds me of the babuskha doll in Russia...

funnily enough, Tito Rudy (hubby of Mommy Loy) talked about it yesterday when I camped out on their dining table....he had a friend daw who got one from Russia...but well the wood (material of the dolls) was more suited to the cold climate in Russia..hence his friend could not open the doll anymore...

hehehe...the solution was to place inside the ref...LOL..imagine telling your visitor you had an honest-to-goodness babushka doll (or matryoshka as its known there) and then pulling your visitor to your refrigerator instead of what he expects as a display cabinet? hehehe!

btw, the dolls are also known as nesting dolls...

  27. here we go again...from boxes, to engagement rings, to dolls to games of kwarta or kahon..

in our Multiply family...its obvious we are not boxed-in at all! hahaha!

  28. ROTFL...that tale of two brains is hilarious Chito....its really fun, and hahaha..dare I say quite insightful and truthful *wink*

    ReplyDelete
  29. btw I sent the link to a gay friend..I don't know what he thought about it..and which side he would take *wink*

    ReplyDelete
  30. If you noticed, the issue was about how the BRAIN of each gender works or how male's and female's thinking process go and differ. In my opinion (without offense to anyone), gay men maybe physically endowed with the male physique but their thought process would most probably NOT be the same as that of a man's. I'm not sure also if their thought process is the same as that of a female's. In this case, I find the Pilipino term more accurate, descriptive and appropriate, i.e. Alanganin.

It would be interesting though to hear how your friend views this issue.

But going back to the "thinking out of the box" issue, I think even gay people (both of the male and female species) are also unable to think out of the box. Many of them follow stereotypes, uncreative, even dull. But just like everyone else, there are always exceptions, of course.

    ReplyDelete
  31. i had so much fun reading the thread...learned something new today! thanks guys!

    ReplyDelete
  32. would be interesting to see statistically and if its measured, which among the genders would be more out-of-the-box thinkers...

anyway, baka ang mga gay..kc most of the time sila talaga ang mga creative eh...baka ganon na din..it follows...

  33. remember also the empty box drawn by the author of the Little Prince?
and how he was asked to draw sheep, but he instead drew a box and said the sheep were inside?

teka..is this still in topic? hmm..pwede rin...basta he was thinking out of the box din di ba?

    ReplyDelete
  34. well this one..am not really sure if he is gay (am really bad at that sort of thing)....he sounds gay, he looks gay but I don't think he ever admitted he is gay..

...so I think he enjoyed the video but as to how he thought...*shrug*

    ReplyDelete
  35. On the second thought, the fact itself that they are gay may already be an indication that they are "out-of-the-box," that is if we consider being male and being female as the two conventional boxes.

  36. I considered our group as an outstanding "out of the box" mentality!..wish we had an ac/dc somebody, so we would know, her/his ansuer...hahahahahahaha...we sure can multiply some variations, versions & thoughts of different avenues in this simple topic, yet, very controversial & thought provoking replies...i had so much fun reading each & everyone's ansuers...indeed,very interesting....Totchie's mv made me laughing non-stop all the way!!!...oh may!

  37. Bakit walang Think out of the circle or triangle?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hehehe... another smart girl here. Actually, this "thinking out of the box" (according to wikipedia) may have originated from the nine dots/points puzzle, i.e. 9 dots arranged in square at 3 points each side thus the resemblance to a box (see http://www.brainstorming.co.uk/puzzles/ninedotsnj.html). As indicated, solving the puzzle involves going beyond the range of the points.
