the last 30 minutes, we were talking about this most recent Sinulog festival and the Yonzon's most recent visit and our strenuous activities...
ReplyDeleteI talked about Ms. Guia and Gina's "amazing race" walk to the Basilica Sto. NiƱo and how the security guard shooed us away when he saw us using the faucet by the side of the church, to wash the mud from our feet and shoes...
she said...we should have shooed the guard away instead and told him that since the parishioners were donating vast amounts of money, it was our right to at least use the water on the church grounds...
this lead to a discussion about all the donations to Simala, Sibonga with the "miraculous birhen" and how the monks were probably spending sleepless nights counting the piles and piles of donated money...
then I said...why don't they just ask the bank to come over to count it for them because after all it was going to be deposited to a bank somewhere right?
then my mom said with a straight face (translation) - WHAT? the bank tellers will tell you off coz they will only accept the money if its in carachuchu (pronounced as ca-ra-choo-choo)
my dad promptly laughed at her and asked her where in the word did she get that term...
it turned out she meant "cartucho" LOL (they next spent the next 5 minutes debating about which was the correct term)
but really, when she delivered that line, it was unforgettable..I think I might be using it instead of the cartucho...hahaha!
in the meantime, I learned a new Spanish term..
ha ha ha ha
ReplyDeleteah Mommy Loy, I am an easily amused person...
ReplyDeletefor those who are mystified as to what else my brain has found amusing, the cartucho refers to the rolls of coins (wrapped in paper) that the bank has or accepts...it literally means cartridge
ReplyDeleteI am actually happy to learn another word! It always pleases me to add every bit of information to my sometimes addled brain - now that funny! ha ha ha
ReplyDeleteI sometimes reproach my dad...coz if he had spoken to me in Spanish when I was a young 'un like what my grandparents did to him and his siblings..e di at least, I would have just slept thru my college Spanish...ayon, naka-cram pa ako during exams...
ReplyDeletesame here..its always nice to learn and add stuff to our brains...addled or naka-drunken stupor (ako yata yon)
Cat, in fairness to the church guard, he stopped shooing us away when he saw how muddied our feet were. Also maybe because we assured him we'd be the last, hehe. =)
ReplyDeleteuhm..I actually spun him a story about you gals when you were washing your feet and I was talking to him in Cebuano :-)
ReplyDeletewag na pong itanong, at nagsinungaling na nga ako don sa church...hahaha!
