My left foot has done it again - getting twisted when I walk on the streets of Makati...argh, I can't limp gracefully at all!

  1. Those 6 inch heels definitely will do 'em for you (twist your ankle, that is).

  2. I'm sorry to read this Cat. I hope you feel better soon.

  3. Oh, i know how it is...i've been there & done it twice...the pain, the swelling, the huge hematoma that will last at least 2weeks or so, the ugly sore gait & can't fit in some of your shoes...the thing of it is, 1st time, just twisted while walking in tennis shoes on rough concrete in Vigan trip...the 2nd time, i stepped on an uneven concrete... both happened in Pinas...wear you an ankle support & try to elevate your (L) foot whenever you can!...hope it's just a sprain & no chip on your tarsal bones...hope you'll soon recover & feel much better in few days...God speed...purrrrr&meowwww

  6. awww....were you wearing heels?

that happened to me once, super sakit talaga... I hope you're feeling better na. :) mwah!

  7. Oo nga, were you wearing heels? I can't seem to imagine you with heels, though.

    ReplyDelete
  8. hi Mar,

I only wear heels when its absolutely necessary in a formal occasion (hehehe..even formal weddings if I can get away with flats, I will)..

would you believe I was wearing my usual Crocs?

  9. thanks Ted...just been to the clinic today...

you know again a funny thing I realized..

I talked to the surgeon, who advised for an xray, which I did, but which will only have its results and reading available tmrw afternoon...
then, to top it all, the ortho will be only coming in on Sunday...

so I said, I'd rather get the xray results and decide tmrw if I ought to go to a another ortho who will be available in the nearest hospital, coz if I wait for Sunday, since I am already taking anti-inflammatory meds as well as putting cold and hot packs on my foot...then Sunday - it will be all well! :-)

  10. thanks Angie!

weird nga eh..better maybe if I was walking on some pebbly ground, maybe I would have been more observant..it was just an uneven dip in the concrete streets of Makati and down I went in an ignominious heap! I was able to brace myself with my right knee (which got skinned), but lucky my palms were unscathed...

I have an ankle support leftover from my right foot-twisted days..but it doesn't seem to be interchangeable...

I had to hop to the clinic this afternoon after breakfast with Jing, Meann, Che, Ms. G, Sir B and Chito (who kindly dropped me off very near to the clinic) but only to find out I would only get the results of the xray later, and the ortho would only come in Sunday..hmph!

I pray no bones (even soft ones or cartilages) are affected...coz its a pain in the butt..I mean..foot!

  11. thanks Val...huhuhu...eto ang panahon wish ko may boyrfriend..not to carry me around mind you, pero sya nang ask ko para gawin yung errands ko :-)

(teka, messenger boy yata kailangan ko kapag ganon ah)

  12. hahaha...thanks Kuya Nel..

actually the doctor was telling me to not walk around and to get myself crutches...e sabi ko WHUT?
    I have to buy crutches,
and I have to stay put?

    nunca!

mahal ang crutches, so gamitin ko umbrella hahaha...
as for staying put, I firmly believe its better for circulation if I walk naman (as long as di super bruised yung foot)...

as for the wheelchair..hmm...pwede ma-change color sya to red? my fave color..tapos...lagyan natin ng kitty figures ...mwehehe!

    ReplyDelete
  13. hello Ozzie,

    no, I wasn't wearing heels :-)

funnily enough, all my "tapilok" or "twisted" food accidents involve me wearing flat shoes...

probably because if I wear my heels, I am extra careful when I prowl...

thank you! at least my hope at the end of the tunnel...swelling is not as bad as last night..

    ReplyDelete
  14. LOL! yeah, I do seem to be more at home with flats...I can zap around faster...

I actually do wear heels, but lately sa boots ko lang...those thin strappy sandals with 4 inch heels are a thing of the past with me...too much of a torture for my poor feet...at saka coz I like walking, my feet get dusty...

    ReplyDelete
  15. Just teasing you with the 6-inch heels.
I guess tripping could happen to anyone, even on the smooth polished pavement of Makati, and the flattest comfy crocs at that. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  16. *grin* personally I can't imagine 6 inch heels because i don't imagine the front part as also being raised..I always imagine the woman wearing them to tilt forwards..hahaha!

maybe its better if I wear wooden clogs (bakya), so that I watch my feet when I walk ...mas careful pa!

the streets of Makati, while admittedly paved with asphalt are not all smooth and wholly holey-free...may mga uneven spots and covers on canals etc. which don't fit well...ok lang if you step out of your car and directly into your building..otherwise...well...

    ReplyDelete
  17. cat..why not ask for the xray results to be delivered to the doc. and consult via phone. i cannot imagine you going in and out of the lab then the doc's clinic limping that way...ahahay!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ano ba yan?! Sa Sunday pa ikaw mabibigyan ng prognosis?! How inefficiant! =(

    ReplyDelete
  19. CatH kitikiti to stay put ??!! .... you must be kidding ! ... IMPOSSIBLE !!

p.s. my red akong Ferrari chair ...

  20. hi Meann,

kc Patients First ako na clinic (nearest to me than Makati Med)..siguro if I were at Makati Med and nagpa-x-ray ako don..baka ma-request ko pa...but only if may ortho na ako yata...alam mo naman healthcare natin dito..di naman to France or Canada :-)

it depends on the HMO I think...the last time this happened, I blogged somewhat lenghtily about it (http://cuh888.multiply.com/journal/item/32/Adventures_of_a_solitary_cat_Un_Happy_Feet) because super sakit (kulay talong na kaya by afternoon of the same day) and I had to hop back and forth from the HMO's office/clinic (which was near Makati Med) and Makati Med itself...hay!

anyway, tmrw I will get the xray results..so back to Glorietta naman ako...

anyway, am happy to report di na ganon kasakit..though the swelling has not gone down..

    ReplyDelete
  21. honga po eh...kc di naman araw-araw ang ortho nila na consultant...may sked din...hence I will have to call my HMO and check who is available and which nearest hospital and anong sked..and hop there tmrw...

    ReplyDelete
  22. abah..type ha...if ok lang ang mga sidewalks dito..pwede ganito lang ako tapos motorized ba? anong speed limit..or how fast can it go?

    ReplyDelete
  23. 4Wheel drive yan .... PAWIS steering nga lang Cath ! hehehe

Hoping your getting better .... next time , wear 2 pairs of thick socks ... so fragile ka Cath.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Kuya Nel naman...how can I wear 2 pairs of thick socks with my Crocs..di na ako fashionista nyan..mwahahaha..

fragile ang aking feet and ankles talaga...even if I do a lot of walking...I don't know why...matanong nga sa doctor one of these days...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Take CALCIUM Cath .... brittle ang bones mo.

    ReplyDelete
  26. really eh? but I take milk everyday...(maglagay na lang ako ng baka at kambing sa loob ng condo ko)

seriously, if it were bones, I'd have suffered a broken bone yata for all the times I've tumbled down and rolled about sa streets...ngeeeh...

I enjoyed riding it so much sa Singapore..naku, if that were only here tapos di segway-nappin..e di kumuha na ako ng isa (once the prices drop of course)

  35. actually Mommy Loy, I was really in two minds of whether to go or not to go..

lucky that Che told me Sir B and Ms G will be going..so for sure, dadaan sila Makati area on the way to QC di ba?

    so ang logic ko -

    1. the clinic I would go to would be open around 10 am

    2. ang breakfast with them is 8 am

    3. which is more important ang pag-celebrate with Jing and the other Kayumanggitos (not to mention, diosme..bihira bumaba si Jing sa kanyang mountain abode)

    or

yung pag-pa-x-ray sa foot ko na sa tingin ko wala namang broken bone because I could still hobble naman..though it was pretty swollen that Sunday night...which is why I spent around 3 hours alternating between hot and cold compresses plus rolling my foot on a bottle of beer..ehem... (may laman pa yun beer bottle na muntik ko nang inumin)

good thing sabi nila Sir B oks to pick me up, although admittedly getting up at the ungodly hour of 6 am is a chore for me...grabeng sakripisyo ko yata para lang maka-attend sa breakfast with them..hahaha..yun na lang bday gift ko sa kanya *wink*

    priorities, priorities...LOL

    ReplyDelete
  36. and a P.S. lang Mommy Loy

...based on what Tito Rudy said, we can conclude that once we set our mind to liking something, all other discomforts fall by the wayside hehehe....

e most Aries people are like that..just like us! *blink, blink na pa cute*

    ReplyDelete
  37. you were there with me in spirit Mommy Loy,

kaya nga yung share mo kinain ko na rin...*burp*

  38. By the way, Raoul is scheduled for a blood transfusion tonight. The first donor did not pass, too low platelet count. We are now waiting for another nephew (gusto ng bllod bank lalaki) to arrive, then we proceed to the lab in Chong Hua. Sana this donor is ok so Raoul can have his transfusion asap. Pat is home na, Raoul is still in the hospital.

    ReplyDelete
  39. we will be praying for Raoul that his match has been found..

why na lalaki? coz Raoul is a male? if daughter pa ang 2nd child ni Pat, would it be a girl din sana? (curious lang po)

    ReplyDelete
  40. We're back. Maybe its because most women are anemic, especially while still menstruating..

    ReplyDelete
  41. I hope ok na and found ang perfect match sa blood ni Raoul...and that he can come home to be doted upon by his sibling, parents and grandparents soon :-)

  42. tis official - I have a flat right foot...sabi ni doctor ortho :-)

I just googled it now...I think though na I still have a flexible flatfoot as its not totally flat naman even if I just rest the foot against the floor - "If a youth or adult appears flatfooted while standing in a full weight bearing position, but an arch appears when the person dorsiflexes (stands on heel or pulls the toes back with the rest of the foot flat on the floor), this condition is called flexible flatfoot."

nagreklamo kc ako kay doc na though my left foot is swollen naman..for some time I've been feeling intermittent pains don sa right foot ko..esp sa banda na arch area...

  43. Crocs will usually do it to you. I trip occasionally when I am wearing mine, even inside the house.

So sorry to hear about your twisted ankle. That really hurts. I wonder if Flector Patch is available there? That works excellently well for sprains and strains.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Cat, follow these steps for your ankle: RICE which means R-est, I-ce, C-ompression and E-levation. These are antidotes for injuries like yours specially in the first 24-48 hours. By now, it's probably 5 to 7 days old but it wouldn't hurt to continue these steps, except for the Ice part. You probably would need a hot compress by now. Aleve or Advil should help speed up your healing if Flector Patch is not available there. Here's a link for your information on how to handle sprains and strains.

  45. honga eh..and to think there was this nice sale on Croc sandals which I passed today on my way back (red pa, my fave color)...e di na ako nag-buy ..haha!

I am taking Arcoxia as anti-inflammatory tablet...and I've taken to wearing my ankle support ..

isip ko nga if I should bite the offer for PT eh..but just thinking of the hassle of going back to the hospital (and I don't even know the frequency pa) , am leaning towards just letting nature takes it course..

I admit though, baka nga this will take longer...I have errands to run and things to do..so everyday I really cannot avoid walking and using this foot...e stubborn..ayokong mag-crutches din...

I just googled Flector patch now..hmm..para yatang salonpas pala kc nga ilalagay sa affected area...

    ReplyDelete
  46. thanks Joey...(at first quick glance, akala ko kakain ako ng maraming rice..hehehe..kidding lang)

yep..hot compress na daw sabi ng doctor kanina...actually the first 24 hours, I was alternating both..dapat yata talaga it should have been purely an ice pack..oh well, lesson learned...also nag-roll ako ng feet ko sa bottle..

darn it..parang may tendency pala din ako din towards flat-footedness...

    ReplyDelete
  47. ang galing, thanks for the link Joey..i-bo-bookmark ko na...I think prone ako tlaga to sprains on this part of my body...ganon din yata ako in college eh..kaso atis leaves ang nilagay..hmm...

    ReplyDelete
  48. You are right, the first 24 hours are critical and Ice should be the first antidote to prevent further swelling. Rolling your feet sa bottle has double entendre. First, it makes you feel good and secondly, it hits a lot of pressure points, just like in reflexology, in healing or making your body well.

About being flat footed, no worries. It is not the end of the world for your feet. Here are a couple of links for you.

  49. I am glad you find that link very useful. I sold Flector Patch here and I've been trained on how to handle sprains and strains for many years selling other NSAIDS (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) such as Naprosyn, Anaprox, Aleve and Toradol including Opiates such as morphine. I hope Flector Patch is available there. It is great for sprains and strains and we have studies to support that claim. That product was very instrumental in helping me make my trip to Pinas, LA, Portland and Vancouver last year.

Hmmm... Atis leaves huh. Here's another non-drug antidote for sprains and strains. Trust me, it works because I did it myself before when I lived there and I've done it here too.

You need some fresh ginger. Cut it up in small pieces and crush them in a pestel and mortar aka Almeres. It will start juicing up. Put it in a container or a bowl. Slowly, add corn starch to it and make a paste, about the same consistency as smooth peanut butter. Cut a square piece of cloth, like an old T-Shirt you want to discard. Apply the paste ginger generously onto the cloth. Apply it onto the affected area such as your ankle. Cover it with a Shrink Wrap (you can buy that from the pharmacy) to hold the patch in place. The heat from the ginger will help facilitate the healing process and will also relieve some pain and will make your ankle feel good. But, as always, don't force the affected foot to walk normally if you still experienced pain. Compensate with the other foot and DO NOT RUSH. This ginger patch will hold until your next shower. (even if bathing is once a week...he he he, only joking):-)

    Good luck Cat.

  50. We found a perfect match (he had to be cross-matched with Pat's blood) in a nephew. He had to come to the city from Atlas Mines in Lutopan (he's a doctor there) the other night then he had to go back to Lutopan the next day to tend to his patients the next morning.

Raoul had his transfusion yesterday from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm. Pat and manuel are there now to check on him. Thanks for the prayers!

    ReplyDelete
  51. triple entendre yata...if the bottle has contents na alcoholic...ayos...you can drink it after rolling your foot ..hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  52. hmmm..how about yung Arcoxia (Etoricoxib)? ok ba ang feedback?

    ReplyDelete
  53. cge, bibili muna ako ng mortar and pestle one of these days kc wala akong pag-crush..not unless ilagay ko sa ilalim ng aparador dito..hahaha..and that would mean also I have to go out coz my supply of ginger here is gone (I love ginger..its smell as well as sarap pang salabat)...

actually, the first 4 hours, may kasalanan na ako..I had to walk talaga..but luckily I was able to make it back with a couple of winces along the way...nowadays there is not a lot of pain, even if I walk..so probably nga the meds are working or something else...its just the swelling which may take longer..as well as the bruising which is there..

    ReplyDelete
  54. thank goodness Mommy Loy...pretty soon Raoul will be there na with you all...

regards to Pat and Manuel and Vito and Tito Rudy!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Aha, you are right about that! Bottoms up then! We say it here, Okole Ma Luna!

    ReplyDelete
  56. That is a Cox2 Inhibitor. That one is good. Although it says it is gentler on the stomach, I'd still be wary about not taking it without food. That medicine is just like Celebrex. They both fall in the NSAID group. Always take it with food (I don't think you'll have a problem with that huh). Is it taken once or twice a day?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Bilihin mo yung marble. Easier to clean and it doesn't grow bacteria unlike wood. Pwede nga rin siguro yung aparador mo kung talagang mabigat...LOL.

Glad you were able to make it back from your walk. Just keep following the RICE treatment regimen and you'll be well on your way to recovery. Good luck.

    ReplyDelete
  58. the 60 mg..I bought good for twice a day - one after breakfast, and one after dinner

this 2nd dose, I bought na good for once a day lang 120 mg...yun nga lang parang may side effect eh..I feel more easily tired and sleepy..
and since the accident happened..I wasn't that keen on cooking..so I just made sure to eat before taking it even if it was just bread and ube jam...

    ReplyDelete
  59. hehehe..mag-topple pa yung aparador sa akin...ibang problema na naman...*wink*

a thought just occured to me...in all the limping and hobbling and wobbling I've done since Sunday this week to everywhere I went..diosme..wala talagang nag-offer sa akin na i-carry ako ala Prince Charming style *wink*

*swoons like a damsel in distress kuno*

    ReplyDelete
  60. Lower doses are easier to take with less side-effects. Glad you are taking it with food.

    ReplyDelete
  61. If I was there, I would have done it in a heartbeat:-)

    ReplyDelete
  62. yes, but I'd have asked you to be in Hawaiian regalia..grass skirt and lei *grin*

    ReplyDelete
  63. Ah, no problemo yan. Kung gusto mo naka coconut shell bra pa...LOL!

Believe it or not, I've done it before in a talent show at our company regional meeting in 1998 when all the men had to be dressed in muumuu or grass skirts and we all danced the hula while I sang the Hukilau song...LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  64. It was taken with a film camera and was given to me long time ago. I had it in my appointment book organizer and I lost the only photo I had when I lost that book. Sayang talaga. Hayaan mo. If it resurfaces again, I will post it.

  65. No, the magic is gone. That cannot be recreated.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I will have to find another magic moment....ha ha ha!

    ReplyDelete
  67. naku Joey, I hope ok lang muna tong version ko..I was only able to see a big nice pile of ginger today, sa Rustan's...

wala akong mortar and pestle, so I mixed up yung sabi mo at saka nong taxi driver ko kanina..sabi kc nya i-heat yung ginger...e wala akong cornstarch...

so gawa ko is cut the ginger into smaller pieces, pounded it with the back of my big knife (surprise, ok rin pala), put it in the oven toaster para uminit...kinuha ko yung small pieces of ginger na na heat up, nilagay ko sa panyo and tied it around my foot..isip ko nga sana gumawa ng salabat at i-lagay ang foot ko pero sabi nga ni Mommy di ko dapat daw binasa ang injured foot ko..e too late, at saka with my hot compress (more like hot labacara e mababasa talaga ang foot ko)...

    ReplyDelete
  68. at sabi pa kanina pahanap daw ako ng tubatuba leaves...hay..as if nasa Cebu lang ako at makuha ko yan..so eto muna...

anyways, I love ginger, so am very happy sa smell ngayon...wish ko lang sana nga mainit palagi tong ginger pieces sa foot ko eh..siguro I shall sleep with it on...

    ReplyDelete
  69. Not sure how effective that's going to be. Ginger by itself will naturally provide heat once mixed with the corn starch. No need to heat it up in a toaster oven. Also, the old saying that you should not wet your injured foot is all bovine manure (BS in other words). If you don't have corn starch or an old T-shirt you can discard, Salonpas will work or any liniment that has methyl salicylate in it like Ben-Gay or just simply a bottle of Oil of Wintergreen. Just make sure you wrap your ankle with an elastic bandage you can get from the drug store. This bandage should keep the swelling down. That should work.

Regarding hot compress, here's a link for you. Do it only after your injury has gone past 18 days.

    http://www.wikihow.com/Make-A-Simple-Hot-Compress-for-Muscle-Pain

    Good luck Cat.

    ReplyDelete
  70. What does it do? I am curious. I heard about banaba leaves. Are they the same?

    ReplyDelete
  71. unahin ko to answer...di daw eh..its different..I asked our security guards here, kaso its all in the province daw or there are no tubatuba near them...

and now, the OIC here said, he tried looking daw din in the park near where he lives...e banaba lang daw nakita nya...so to answer your question its a different plant :-)

    ReplyDelete
  72. ngeeh! ginawa ko na to after the 7th day passed....why the need for 18 days? di effective?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Di mo binasa? Andoon ang reason why you have to wait for 18 days.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Here is the reason why:

"Never use a hot compress or other heating methods on an acute injury (within 18-21 days of the injury). It will increase blood flow to the area, which, if recently injured, will lead to increased inflammation and secondary tissue damage. In other words, heat will make a recent injury 'flare up' and take longer to heal. Use ice or a cold compress if the soreness is the result of a recent injury."

    ReplyDelete
  75. di pa at that time, nag-react lang ako sa post mo na may link :-)

    ReplyDelete
  76. ayos..guilty na ako nyan..hehehe...

anyways, I've been using pounded ginger since yesterday..ara..ang hapdi din pala...

    ReplyDelete
  77. dinig ko parang sinisipsip nya ang cold from the injury..para daw talaga yan sa mga napilayan...

in fact, when I texted the OIC here yesterday (I didn't tell him what happened to me, I just said I was looking for tubatuba leaves)...he asked right away anong nangyari at san ako napilayan hehe!

so basically, you take the tubatuba leaf, apply a little oil (or gas ba yon?) to it, then pass it over a lighted candle to heat it up...and then put the leaf on the affected area and wrap it...(but the taxi driver told me yung bark daw..ay ewan)

actually it reminds me that they placed atis leaves on my foot before in college when I also got injured in a tennis session...ganon din..twisted left foot..hay naku...dapat couch potato talaga ako...

    ReplyDelete
  78. Oh, para palang antidote ng mga Arbularyo. I actually believe in those kinds of treatments. that's why I recommended the ginger paste. I wonder what tubatuba leaves are called in English?

    ReplyDelete
  79. No, you need to do some stretching and exercises for your legs and ankles daily to prevent further injuries.

    ReplyDelete
  80. if may extra Joey, I was planning to take a picture of them and share it here, maybe somebody can identify it...

the banaba you were asking about is for the stomach daw eh...

    ReplyDelete
  81. darn it, no wonder matagal nag go down and swelling nga..plus I really ought to have limped for ice when it happened...I only did it say 2 hours after the injury..oh well, lesson learned again...like before, circumstances behoove me (ehem) to not apply the remedy right away..

    ReplyDelete
