My second visit to Intramuros was done yesterday afternoon. Last time was last century. I'm disappointed, deflated, demoralized. Enough said. Just wanted to let go of the feeling plaguing me after the visit.
Intramuros, especially Fort Santiago, is really depressing. I don't think it is because of its decrepit state, but by the unsettled ghosts of the past hovering over the area. Just feel them.
and that reminds me..when the guide pointed out to me these stalls or stores by the side of the street..wherein he said before...kulungan daw...as in ...ako napa-"ngeeh!"
to be honest, it wasn't I think more of the ghosts souls languishing in the area (I come off sounding so hard-boiled and thick-skinned and insensitive)..
I think it was because I was comparing as to how other countries preserved such historic sites and what I saw there was getting this reaction out of me - WTH? where is Intramuros? I can't see anything of it here - did they think a few signs and calesas going around it was doing to do the trick?

I have a friend in Hawaii na gusto rin sanang makakain ulit...e kaso maling timing, its not as if I could pick it up from the department store, so whenever I have something like this, he can only read about me enjoying them to bits...*grin*

I thought the government did some restoration work on the walls of Intramuros. When I went to Fort Santiago in the 60s, I actually enjoyed walking around and looking at the Rizal exhibits, and looking across the Pasig River at the buildings along Escolta. After taking in Fort Santiago and the Manila Cathedral, I walked to Luneta where I waited for the world famous Manila Bay sunset. That was quite an experience and I hope when I do it again (this year I hope) I won't have the same feeling as you did.
well you can probably glean from the statements earlier posted...like succinct post of Chito and more explanatory one from Sir B.
One-liner from me - Intramuros (probably with the exception of the churches) is not maintained well. I do not feel the history behind how its presented. Even a pile of rocks in Corregidor made me really imagine and think of what happened during the war. But here?
Well sure you have the calesas and the horses and the cocheros dressed in colorful plaid...running around the tourists. But that does not make this spot something to crow about. Period.
Might as well see it to believe it. You can rant or praise it yourself when you do see it.:-)
I did take pictures....then half-way (kc nasa kalesa kami), mag blur na sya sa point and shoot ko..so stopped..besides I couldn't think of a good way to present it.....
That pretty much sums up the story of tourism in our country.

i think my Paco Park visit was a more enjoyable albeit short visit :))

I'll save my opinion until I see it. You should've taken pictures, instead of just talking about it.
