A hilarious case of mistaken identity: our neighbor's helper trumpeted like a seasoned tv newscaster that Dolphy died by the seaside. My mom was shocked, so I trawled the net and told her I couldn't find any breaking news on it. After 1 hour, our tv was turned on to the news channel and it obligingly spit out news about how a dolphin was found dead in Lapu-Lapu, Mactan Island *toink*

  1. am still giggling madly...

coz the earlier conversation with my mom after hearing that piece of news from the helper went like this -

Mom: anyway, they said he died by the seaside

Cat: what, he was just sitting on the beach and he keeled over?

Mom: maybe he was relaxing...and then he just died..like the way some people die when they are asleep...

Cat: eeeeh? how come? I didn't hear of him having a sickness or something

Mom: probably became depressed because Villar paid him oodles of money to endorse him

Cat: really? how much oodles are you talking about?

Mom: they said about Php 8M

Cat: then how come he would die because of sadness... he got paid Php 8M???
(me thinking: so what if the endorser didn't win..shouldn't the other guy be the depressed one instead of Dolphy?)

and yes, this was a serious conversation..this wasn't a joke...

  2. lesson to learn...to well-meaning helpers, please, don't just eavesdrop on television sets from afar..so you can hear whats being said clearly..otherwise, it just leads to disbelief and scratching of chins...

  7. hehehe... classic example of communication breakdown. Yung kwenting nanganganak, naiiba, nadadagdagan, nababawasan
that in the end, ibang iba na talaga and resulta ng original kwento...LOL

  9. ito naman Jules...e isang letra lang..hahaha...just because the helper didn't really pay attention and catch the complete news, kaya instead of hearing "dolphin" dead..."Dolphy" dead ang nasa brain nya..hehehe...yung lang ha..one letter..na turned over na ang meaning...

apparently if I also had heard the whole story (dolphin dead in Lapu-lapu city), I'd have asked, why in the first place nandyan si Dolphy sa Lapu-lapu e bihira naman madinig ko na mga stars nandon (unless they are ensconced in Shangrila hotel)..

  10. actually Terry, this is not the fault of Dolphy, coz he wasn't there...it was really just an honest mistake of the helper in not listening intently to what was being said and reacting directly without verifying the whole story...:-)
