Calling a storm "Labuyo"? I found it amusing considering its going to be wet and NOT hot and spicy (as in "siling labuyo"). But then again, typhoons are bound to give grief, just like eating too much pepper. Tropical cyclone "Labuyo" (international codename: Damrey) intensified into a storm Thursday morning, and may enhance the southwest monsoon that will bring rains to southern Luzon and Visayas, weather forecasters said.

  1. Hi Cat. Being one who has seen up-close how a storm can wreak havoc to people's lives and properties, I really hope this storm will not live-up to its name, i.e. Labuyo, which by the way is literary translated to mean "wild," (also used to describe some fighting cocks). And though it is usually associated with sili, as in siling labuyo, this storm locally codenamed Labuyo cannot be anywhere near the gastronomic pleasures that the siling labuyo can bring.

By the way, nice post. Mukhang meron ka nang fall-back job as weather forecaster, hahaha... To further enhance your forecast, I hope you don't mind if I add this typhoon track - http://www.pagasa.dost.gov.ph/wb/track.gif.

  2. this is something new for me to learn..I just thought "labuyo" was more in association with the pepper...

so wild horses, wild pigs, labuyo rin ba? (and am not being corny here ha..curious lang talaga)...

  3. for someone who loves to eat spicy stuff....I was thinking more of what they say "almoranas" if one eats too much pepper...

but yes, this is what attracted me to this news in the first place - when I chatted with a friend of mine in who is in Cebu now, he said maulan and may bagyo daw...so was a little bit concerned about my parents...(though we've weathered storms before)...

  4. ahahaha!

if the pay is good, why not? type ko rin mag-ala Amanda Pineda..ehek!
mag twirl pa ako ng umbrella at mag wear ng boots and flowery raincoat...

and due to this sentence, I suddenly remember Nicole Kidman as a weather girl in a movie *wandering mind*

  5. Cat, this is one of the misconceptions about pepper. While it is true that spicy foods may aggravate the condition, it is not a cause. If you read the wikipedia info on it, you'll see that sitting for long periods of time, e.g. multi-chatting, can start the hemorrhoidic process (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemorrhoid).
