Wala din info about it sa NDCC nor is there any mention sa PDI or Philstar. Nothing also sa website ng typhoon2000.com. So, I'm not too sure about this. As a matter of fact, I posted something about it earlier, too. But in just a few minutes of surfing and not finding any news about it, I deleted that post. Pls check or verify uli Cat. This is sending jitters to many. Mukhang na trauma na ang mga tao. Konting ulan lang parang nagpa-panic na.
What in the world will happen to those flooded victims...families,homes & their businesses...kawawa naman sila...another problem/problems...food & water supplies if not purified..there might be bad gastrointestinal explosion...hope not or else that could lead to a dreadful result...

Me too, I was watching Unang Hirit this morning and they were interviewing a represenative from pagasa and he did not mention anything about a typhoon coming He even said that we will probably be experiencing nice weather in 2 days. I was actually waiting for this news since I also read about Typhoon Pepeng last night thru Facebook. Well I just hope that this typhoon will not pass our country. Lets continue praying and proclaim psalms 91. Be safe everyone
Hi Cat. I'm using typhoon2000.com (or maybagyo.com). This a weather forecasting site operated by a kakababyan (bicolano), Michael Padua based in Naga City. I have just gone thru it and found the potential weather disturbance that you were talking about.
I've been using this website since it's inception about 2-3 yrs ago pa. Great help for me in my former job. It provides better info, i.e. madaling maintidihan at nakaka-tulong talaga. Best of all, the visuals are very good.
Looks like it's near Palau and Guam at the moment. Sana di na mabuo as bagyo and kung sakali, di na dumaan sa atin. Or kung dumaan man, sana mahina na, i.e. walang ulan or mahina ang hangin.
I-google earth mo na lang to have a sense of how far Palau is from the Phils. (Okay Google Earth says it's about 800 km east of the Philippines.)
I also looked up that site when I was googling the other day about Tropical Depression Pepeng but wala pang details kc at that time when I posted this. Still, aside from Tin's site on the helpful tips, I just had this nagging idea that - omg, all we need now is another coming our way and we are not yet in the clear.

As of the report time, there have already been 23 casualties. It's worthy to note though that about 170,000 people "were evacuated" before the typhoon slammed into the country! How the heck were they able to that?

I've been following via CNN, developments of Typhoon Ketsana as it slams Vietnam. It has intensified into a storm and weather forecasters are saying that rains are being dumped since yesterday. And intensity could go higher. Looks like a nightmare scenario. But the video I'm seeing is that of military looking people (in their military raincoats), calmly piling up flotation devices, and almost empty but flooded streets. Nothing of the kind of chaos and confusion that we saw here in Manila streets. It seems that the government there in Vietnam are prepared, did prepare, and are calmly doing what they can. And the people, it seems, have heeded the government's warning. It may be too early to tell. But the impression I am getting is that the guys over there, even with a slightly lower number of average typhoons per year, are more ready to cope than us. What gives?
As far as I know, these Low Pressure Areas usually converge or merge, usually but not necessarily into one big storm. Sometimes, the force of one dissipates the other. And still sometimes one influences the direction of the other. Let's hope that if and when they merge, it becomes weak and veers away from our archipelago.

I think we should ask the candidate for President for 2010 who is also the current Secretary of National Defense (DND) and Chairman of the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC), these questions.

Re 2 more storms, for sure meron pang ibang dadating na bagyo. The season is not over yet. Here are track images of the new yet unnamed tropical depression with international code 18W:

- 18W weakens and moves north-west (SALAMAT!)
- 20W has now the name MELOR and is classified as Tropical Storm
PARMA (Pepeng) is expected to increase to a Typhoon Category 3 by Friday morning.
4 pm today, Typhoon Pepeng has entered the country...
