Food/Snacks
Swiss knife (camping)
Leatherman (I'm rethinking this entry)
* Flashlight (I have mini-maglite with my housekeys)
Small sewing kit (I have a wee 1.5 inch by 2 inches one which I've not brought along as a set, only took one of the little spools of thread at one time)
Laundry bag
* Safety pins (pinned to my toilet bag)
* Plastic bags (if I go swimming, I use it for the wet clothing; or if not, then I use it for the used clothing which I did not have laundered)
* Resealable plastic bags (think sandwich bags..useful also during trips to the sea, keeps the water out of important stuff you might like to keep safe)
Inflatable hangers (I've read about them, but never had them)
Matches/Lighter (going camping)
Rubber bands
Luggage ties (those plastic ones you put wherein it has to be cut to open the zipper).
Tape (useful also if you don't have band-aid and you have a blister)
* Luggage Locks (this is always placed on each of my bags already, ready for use)
* Luggage ID Tags (already placed on the bag itself so ready to go anytime)
Compass (I have a small ruler-like thing around 3 inches long, which has compass, magnifying glass and thermometer. I swore to bring this if I go abroad as I got turned around in Osaka)
* These are the things I will always bring with me regardless of the kind of trip I am in

The list gets longer, need a bigger truck! lol.
ReplyDeletenow am envious of the turtle, who bring with his "house" with him, wherever he goes...*wink*
ReplyDelete...and this is just the beginning of the list. Taking note, Jing? =))
ReplyDeleteI'm copy-pasting for future reference. lol
ReplyDeletehihihihihi ayos talaga ang girlscout!
ReplyDeletehehe..
ReplyDeleteFran, I just wrote TBC in case somebody will come along and have a good suggestion....
hahaha...wala lang, naisip ko when I read your question in FB yesterday :-)
ReplyDeletetapos...funny ha...I forgot to bring a comb when I went to Puerto Princesa...imagine...my hair is longer, am doing all these wind-blown look rides and swim...then wala akong suklay...
ReplyDeleteay salamat at eveready ka. pahiram na lang ha. hehehe!!! gaano kalaki ba ang maleta mo at mukhang aarkila ka pa ng sherpa?
ReplyDeleteThis is very good Cat. Pero yung Swiss Knife medyo malabo yan kung travel sa labas ng Pinas.
ReplyDeletethanks Chito...as for the swiss knife, pwede naman i-check-in luggage I think..
ReplyDeletesecondly, I was able to buy some credit-card size thingie which had useful tools..yes, even light, tweezers, scissors, etc. so sometimes yun na nilalagay ko sa lugagge ko...
ehem....may bayad yan if may hihiram...:-)
ReplyDeletecash..no credit card!
oy ha..last 3 trips ko backpack lang dala ko tsaka shoulder bag...
for Sagada, dalhin ko yung convertible backpack/trolley ko...at least bigger space, baka makadala pa ako ng ukay-ukay from baguio..hehehe...
Cat, you are right about the swiss army knife. Just check it in and it will be fine. Once, I forgot I had my swiss army knife in my brief case. It was confiscated by TSA. Second time it happened to me, I hid it inside a zipper pocket and put a lot of my coins from my pocket to camouflage it. It went through but since it was only a day trip, I hand carried everything so I had no choice but mail my swiss army knife back to my home address before I flew back.
ReplyDeleteDo you normally lock your suitcases whenever you travel? Over here, if you lock it, TSA will break the lock to check the contents of your luggage. I don't lock my suitcase anymore, even my golf bag.
ReplyDeleteBut I noticed, over there, they are not as strict when you go through security. I never had to take out my computer, nor CPAP machine from my bag.
We had a bad experience going back here to Hawaii from Pinas. Before we boarded the plane, the security guys at the departure gate asked me and Myra to bring out our wallets and empty them. Then, they asked us to leave whatever pesos we had left since we won't be using them anymore. We did not give them a single peso. Myra and I were really mad we reported them to PAL. The same thing happened to me the following year when I went home to attend Boboy's party. I was expecting the same thing to happen again so I emptied my wallet. Kaya wala silang mahingi sa akin. Kapalmuks talaga.
hmm...actually before, I also had to leave..guess what - my tear gas!
ReplyDeletehahaha..I was on a trip to Legaspi...and on the way back to Manila wala na kasing check-in luggage eh...
so, had to ask my officemate who was going to Legaspi the next month for a visit to our service center there, to bring it back to me in Manila..this was in 1995 I think...
of course, there was a lot of ribbing, kc kasama ko yung isa kong officemate na system supervisor din...wala ba daw akong tiwala sa kanya that I brought tear gas along...
e sabi ni Daddy kc ipadala..hahaha!
yes, I do lock 'em up.
ReplyDeleteNo worries, the padlock I use are TSA approved, so the TSA has no need to break them to get to my things...ehem..
When I travel abroad, Tumi bags ang aking ginagamit..e TSA locks kc sila lahat.
That really depends Joey on saang airport ka.
before in cebu, diosme..ang strict parang paranoid..tapos nagiba..
when you go to far-flung airports..you can stroll in and out the airport, nobody checks your luggage tag if the one you claimed is really yours..ngeeh!
GRABE Joey! thats really bad and I wasn't expecting ganon sila kalala ha...
ReplyDeleteay, buti di mo binigay nga..
besides, babalik ka naman sa Pinas, so ano, bayaran nila yon with interest when you come back? hmph! these guys should be hit with voodoo spells!
WTF...LOL!!
ReplyDeletePwede mo naman siyang kuwentuhan ng malungkot at iiyak na sya:-) So no need tear gas..LOL
ReplyDeleteOf course, you're a Daddy's Girl! Must be one of your first overnight trips ever, right?
ReplyDeleteI guess, as long as they can unlock your lock, it is OK. Some locks require a key and if they cannot open it, they will break it. Also, if they inspected your luggage, they leave a note in there from the TSA person who did it. As always, I double check if there is something missing. So far so good pa rin.
ReplyDeleteWow, Class ha! Aren't you worried they are going to get scuffed up from the way they throw luggage around from the belt to the plane and back?
ReplyDeleteCan you describe what a TSA lock is?
That is true but over here, all the airport security system are of the same standard protocols. But of course, smaller airports, you can breeze through security but you still have to go through the same routine. Also, it depends on what time of the day you travel. I try to avoid the high rush hour travel time. It also helps if you are a premier or executive member from an airline travel program. There is usually a special line for those travelers, business or pleasure.
ReplyDeleteOo nga, talagang nakakahiya sila. Dapat yata eh isumpa ang mga yun! Even my friends from PAL were surprised about their activities. Perhaps, they can detect who are balikbayans and locals based on the traveler's attitude and/or when they see their passports.
ReplyDeleteThey cannot stop me from coming back!
ReplyDeleteHi Joey. Grabe naman ito! You mean they did the same thing for a second time? Wala ba kayang CCTV doon sa area na yun? Hold-up ito! Plain and simple!
ReplyDeleteTip siguro sa mga travelers: If this (and any other irregularity) happens, the thing to do is to get the names of these criminals para mai-report. And make a scene if possible. Kaya tuloy-tuloy sila sa gawain nila kasi ang mga tao, especially mga Pinoy, tahimik o kaya nahihiya mag-ingay.
Oo, Tochie. Akala ko nung first time eh napaginitan lang kami. Yung second time, I kind of anticipated that it might happen, and it did. Sabi nga nung friend ko sa PAL, grabe naman daw which is exactly what you said. I guess pang karaniwan na lang siguro nilang ginagawa yun. In fact, nung nagyari for the first time, tinandaan ko yung mga faces nila. Nung second time nagyari, tinitingnan ko sila pero ibang faces naman ang mga nandoon.
ReplyDeleteI think, on my next trip, when I go thru them again, I will turn on my video camera and just let it run to capture the conversation and their faces somehow.
Thanks for your concern, Tochie. Regards to Cecille.
Yes, Joey. With the videocam, we now have the power to expose and stop these people. Dito sa atin, a group of people I know will be doing just that to catch police and other shenanigans. They also plan to do it for this coming elections.
ReplyDeleteThat's really good, Tochie. It is a good first step to stop this type of corruption that has been ingrained in our society. I am glad that somebody is thinking about doing it. I just hope that none of them will be targeted for retaliation in the future, if you know what I mean. Aloha.
ReplyDeleteno, not really, but it was my first overnight trip with an male officemate na may asawa..hehehe...but well Daddy is always thinking of safety kapag may travel ako...
ReplyDeleteako naman parang nag-"block" attitude = don't think about it, it won't happen to me..etc. etc.
ah...I've never had it done (or baka di nag leave ng note?)
ReplyDeletebut once or twice nga, was I was called for extra inspection of my luggage (siguro kc Asian hitsura ko)..they swabbed all over my luggage with a cotton bud or..q tip yata tawag non..
well, wala akong magawa for the big one I have pero kc polycarbonate sya..so its light luggage with 4 wheels going whichever way..quite convenient for me..though ang nakuha kong design at the time is di pa yung diamond pattern to protect the surface of the bag (that came later)..
ReplyDeletebut..as extra protection, may cloth bag ako..which I had somebody sew for me for the big Tumi I have...hehehe...nakakatuwa sya tingnan..kc bag over a bag...
TSA locks are TSA approved. Meron syang particular sign na malalaman mo may locks ang TSA peeps which they can use to open your kind of lock (siguro parang universal key)....nakita ko na tong locks na ganito way back pa..in fact meron sa Rustans and meron sa airports nga where nagbebenta ng locks...
yung sa akin, kasama na kc TSA-approved luggage locks when you buy the Tumi bag..
Ah, may katuwiran naman pala si Daddy mo. If that was me (your daddy) I would give you a taser and teach you how to use it. Otherwise, it might be used against you.
ReplyDeleteOver here, that is only done on hand carried items like your brief case or camera bag. My CPAP machine always gets swabbed.
ReplyDeleteNaka Bihis! Mwahahahahahahaha...talagang hindi mo ma mi miss yung luggage mo na yan:-)
ReplyDeleteO, ganon pala. Maybe I should get one myself so I can lock my suitcases. Better to just buy the lock instead of a Tumi with TSA approved locks. Mas mura... he he he.
ReplyDeleteah, ok naman actually si Kuya Roehl..hehe..mabait yon..in fact I stayed with him and his wife in my first visit to Sanfo....he was here recently..nagkakilala rin sila ni Choie during that ala Twilight Zone experience namin sa Napa Valley,...
ReplyDeleteAyun naman pala eh. But daddies will always be protective of their girl:-)
ReplyDeleteWhat is this all about?
ReplyDeleteHonga, Cat. Paki explain your adventure in Napa:-)
ReplyDeletehehe..cge, parang nasulat ko yon before...hanapin ko yung link..
ReplyDeletepero its really how Choie and I met up in Sanfo in such unusual circumstances...
Parang hindi ka pani paniwala ba?
ReplyDeleteShorter version. Choie and I only corresponded through Multiply before. We never saw each other face to face. On my trip to US and to Sanfo particularly, I think she was on her trip to Philippines also. At that time parang sa San Ramon yata sila nakatira sa Sanfo. So I didn't contact her anymore to set an eyeball coz for one I was living far away in Traci with Roehl's family and I thought nasa Pinas pa sya at that time. I wasn't even sure if I could get to see her wherever she would be because I was dependent on hitching a ride with either Roehl or Jerry (my other officemate sa Sara Lee na neighbor din ni Roehl).
ReplyDeleteOn Mother's Day..so Roehl and Jerry decide to bring me to Napa Valley. We first visited Robert Mondavi's then proceeded to V. Sattui. So after going around and ordering food, we settled to eat our food and drink our wine on the grass.
Abah...may tumatawag sa aking pangalan. Guess who?
pics and story here pala...(tinamad na akong magsulat ng mahaba..hehehe)

You mentioned this incident before and how bizarre was that huh? Of all places, sa Napa valley pa kayo nagkita. It is really a small world!
