I swore I wouldn't start posting any of my Palawan pictures..but images replayed in my mind of what I had eaten that first night!
Dinner at Kinabuch's.
Which is where most go to eat this delicacy while in the city.
Another restaurant specializes also in another dish which is the real thing - the "balinsasayaw" or the "bird's nest" and its ending result: "bird's nest soup". Thats for another post...as it was done very quickly on the last day.
Extreme cuisine, reigns supreme!

ReplyDeleteno difference...but then I didn't finish the whole plate..Sam, our other backpacker..did that. Keen, the remaining third of our team (ehem) took one itsy-bitsy-tinsy-winsy bite and backed out...LOL
ReplyDeleteThis kind of food is ok for pulutan..but I think it may have some side effect afterwards like when you burp :-)

ReplyDeletecoz actually the term itself of "tamilok" means something different also in our dialect..which is different from the one in Palawan...
don't ask please what it was...
I've heard mostly good things about it. Prolly not much different from eating raw oysters, jumping salad, or.....earthworms? LOL I would love to try it someday.

ReplyDeletebut...when I was told its like oysters..I was comforted and was the first one to taste...a bit bland though..I wonder if I get one which is really super fresh?
paired with "tuba" (coconut wine), seems to be the best combo..

Can you describe to us how it felt like eating Tamilok for the first time?
it was sort of bland..not as delicious as I remember eating oysters - tahong - scallops etc.

then its slimy :-)
and if you eat a lot..you burp a lot with some not so nice burping..hehe...

ReplyDeleteI beg to disagree. I've been to Palawan twice but never in the same place. (Naks!) I need not eat those worms. The real bird's nest is available at Balinsasayaw in SIlang, Cavite which is near Tagaytay. It's a Palawan restaurant and almost everything is shipped from Palawan. Cheap pa! :-)

ReplyDeletebut Chito, you have eaten bird's nest soup before here even sa Manila di ba? they offer it yata in Chinese restos...whether fake or not..di ko lang alam...
ReplyDeleteyou know that reminds me of a cartoon scene which I think was from "The Far Side"...
ReplyDeleteso here's a scene of a man making off with a couple of chicken eggs...on the other side of the road, there was this chicken (say hen) holding (its a cartoon, so imagine mo na lang) a cute little baby...presumably the man's child...
ok, so I know the way I recounted it wasn't humorous but how it was presented in the cartoon was funny and thought-provoking...
