Looking over an online buddy's post on the pics he shot of the Philippines' pavilion in the Shanghai Expo this year - even if may not have seen it in its entirety and not known the background - I'm just plain disappointed. Well, at least I can blog and share photos of the trips I've taken in my country and hope for the best.

ang sabi nya...and I must say I can't exactly find strong argument against what I saw too..in pictures I mean...

calling the tourism guys or whoever is in charge now of marketing the Philippines...

  2. what timing...I was channel surfing and then in Crossing Borders show, the talk was about "The Future of RP Tourism"..

and then the guest said (before I flipped to another channel) something like..well if you have a good product and with a little promotion..it can go a long way..

conversely, if you have a bad product and even with a lot of promotion, it won't suffice...

well, that depends...is my standard answer...

  10. I just talked to a friend who arrived form Shanghai yesterday (on a business trip). He had two tickets to the Expo courtesy of his Chinese host. Pero hindi nya nakita. The reason: apat na oras daw ang pila! He did not say mahaba ang pila. He really meant to say daw na ganun katagal maghintay sa pila para pumasok. The reason: there's between 450,000 to 600,000 visitors per day (as of todate). The reason: the Chinese government gave (libre) tickets to practically all corners of the Chinese empire. Ang mga nakakarating palang daw sa Expo ay yung mga malalapit lang. Majority are yet to come. Sabagay, until November this year pa naman daw ito. So my friend is keeping the tickets. Baka makabalik din daw siya. Additionally, sabi nya, nabalitaan daw nya na nilalangaw ang Philippine Pavillion. But he reasons that that's probably because there are about 192 countries and 50 international organizations which are participating, in addition to 31 districts, cities and provinces in Chinese mainland as well as Hong Kong and Macao.

Pag pumila ka daw ng 8AM, malamang mga alas dose ka makaka-pasok. Tindi!

  11. oh, I thought till October lang..naku dapat nilang i-extend if ganon..sana nga 24 hours open (naku, how merciless of me)...

Dinig ko nga mahaba sa pila ang US and Japan pavilions...

Dapat mga ganito groupo pumunta para one can hold the place in line para yung iba makapag-CR :-)

  12. We just came from our travel agent today to arrange for our visa and travel details to China this August. We asked our agent to also get us just a one-day ticket to the Shanghai Expo. Our agent told us that the lines for getting in to the more popular and spectacular pavilions are at least 6 hours on weekdays and 8 hours on weekends! So, forewarned, Hugz and I will probably just breeze through it, to simply gawk at the exteriors of the pavilions – I read that quite a number of them are marvelous samples of cutting edge construction technology.

Sad to say, our agent also told us that the Philippine pavilion is "pangit" and "nakakahiya". I saw a photo of the planned Philippine pavilion last year and I thought it looked unimpressive, unimaginative and just a downright ordinary structure. I wonder what went wrong. Which government agency is responsible for that kaya? Tsk. tsk. tsk.
