ReplyDeleteKafka Inaka isha(田舎医者) seems to indicate its too deep for my distracted mind..
Interpretation
Louis H. Leiter saw in the tale a cogent argument for existentialism:
"A Country Doctor" comments on man, who, buffeted by the scheme of things, is unable to transcend the part assigned him by the absurdity of that existence. Because he does not lack conscious knowledge of his condition, but refuses to act in the face of his portentous freedom, the doctor, an archetype of the anti-existential hero, deserves his fate. Lacking the human stuff necessary to create and structure situations, he permits himself to be manipulated by the groom, the family, and the horses; but he becomes, by submitting, a tool within the situations they create. Never, consciously, does he attempt through an overt act, until too late, to establish his own essence, to rise above any manipulative value he possesses for others. As doctor he is a thing, an object, a tool; as man he is nothing.
*mutters* am so not in the mood for thinking over existentialism these days...
Miyori of the Forest is very much in the vein of Miyazaki's wonderful "Princess Mononoke", "Spirited Away" and "My Neighbor Totoro", the excellent "Earth Maiden Arjuna" and the equally excellent series "Mushishi" (AKA "Bugmaster").
ReplyDeleteYAY!
might catch this in UP cause it's nearer =) will you dare go to Shang? i saw it in the news. it's really sad
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen the news...please don't tell me the teacher committed suicide inside the theater?
ReplyDeletehindi guro, doktor ang nagpakamatay sa shang. lumundag mula sa mataas na floor
ReplyDeleteay oo..dentist pala...but was it determined suicide or pushed off?
ReplyDeleteeven so...tsk..tsk...
Latest news say that it was most likely a suicide. A witness described her as going over the escalator.
ReplyDeleteto reach the stage of going through all the trials, getting one's degree and being a dentist..tapos mag suicide lang..its a sad ending...also, hirap naman sa mall, anybody can just jump off if ganon..
ReplyDeleteMall management insists that their place is safe (inspite of the incident).
ReplyDeleteSome say that the moment a person starts the act of suicide, he is no longer sane or normal. Because it is not normal, indeed it goes against all human instincts, to kill oneself.
ReplyDeletewell, I suppose it might be true..after all, take SM..anybody can just go over the rails there too...siguro yung Glorietta 1-4 lang ang di pwede...coz its not that high :-) hopefully one who tries to may have sprains or fractures something...
ReplyDeletethat is because it reminds me of a joke told before ..of the difference between one who jumps from 2nd floor and from 20th floor :-)
so how about Japan? suicide seems to be high...does this mean maraming abnormal na Hapon?
ReplyDeleteIf the premise is that the act of suicide is not a normal human act, then it stands to reason that the Japanese suicide are abnormal. Unless...they are not human.
ReplyDeleteand so abnormality may translate to not being human...inhumanity?
ReplyDeleteunless not being human equals being abnormal...
ay...kagigising lang eh...magkape nga muna ako before trying to present myself with a veneer of normalcy...
ano Marie? baka tmrw na lang ako sa anime :-)
am wondering if open ba Shang ngayon..
bukas yun, tingin mo titiisin ng shang ang milyong milyong revenue for the day dahil lang sa nangyari
ReplyDeletee kc like yung sunog sa Rustans di ba..yung sa grocery ba yon nangyari recently...di ba sinara?
ReplyDeleteay talaga?
ReplyDeleteI remember coz I had reunion lunch kc with a couple of my high school batchmates...tapos yung isa naka-check-in sa Shangrila Edsa...when we passed by sa mall...e sarado..kc nga may sunog don sa grocery...which I think was Rustans..
ReplyDeleteApril 24 pala yon...
