I was looking at Fundacion Pacita from a distance and noticed construction material set a little further away.
Stones and a coral or two thrown in make up a lot of the old stone houses in this island, so that "stone houses" and "Batanes" are practically synonymous.

I read somewhere that construction materials in Batanes have to be brought in from other provinces. Kasi daw yung mga bato sa mismong Batanes Islands ay nau-ubos na (so may prohibition to quarry it).
ReplyDeleteI asked our guide, Joaquin (Joaqs for short, pronounced as Wax *grin*) and he said there is a permit to be given..pero di naman prohibited totally (my interpretation). Probably they don't allow everybody who asks to use the rocks.
ReplyDeleteWe did certainly see people from the parts where stone houses are seen, using modern construction materials like hollow blocks etc.
Lovely capture Cat! Very nice perspective! Gustong gusto ko rin marating ang lugar na ito!
ReplyDeletethanks a lot po! its always my hope that people who see the places I've been to will get interested and be able to also travel there...
ReplyDeleteI pray you will, coz am sure may marami kang beautiful shots din don sa Batanes, with so many lovely views don...even stones are enough to inspire one hahaha!
Very nice quaint place, Cat.
ReplyDeleteI've seen pics of the rooms and suites...ang ganda...hay sayang di kami nakapasok...pero baka mainggit lang ako..huhu!
ReplyDeleteI think they are referring to the sand which is limited; while the rocks, ohh they are aplenty. wag lang yong sa beaches siguro.
ReplyDeleteI loved the rocks at Valugan Beach, yung the other side which were smaller and smoother...but I certainly don't want them to be taken out there and placed into a house...
ReplyDeleteyung sa area ng tsunami..yung sa Song-Song....the houses were more unusual than those stone houses I found earlier in Chavayan (?)
this is one other picture included in Backpack Photography's Batanes June 2010 gallery...not bad for a waterproof cam!
