Nov 2008: Morton's The Steakhouse (album)

It has been ages and ages since I've tasted or ate good steak!

Back in Cebu City, my hometown in the Philippines, we usually gravitated to the old, old branch of a steakhouse located near the wharf..it also had a newer branch near to my parent's house..but...
...hmmm..I should check that out once I visit my hometown as its been so long that I forgot its name already! Also, I could now afford to treat my parents there

Going back to Cincinnati, since I had rushed to TJ Maxx after our sessions that day, inevitably I got hungry (what else is new?)

I decided to gird my loins and make for Morton's - an upscale steakhouse I've been hearing about. I really have to thank Pat, a fellow reviewer for the PMP certification, for my trying out this restaurant even if I was dreading if I could afford it (there is always the credit card though). Oh well, you only live once......

Check out their site: http://www.mortons.com

I entered Morton's from the entrance leading from Carew Tower.
Exhaustion, jet lag, and stress as well as being very full made me almost fall asleep at my table during the meal.
The food and drink were so good that I could have sat there forever.

However I did make a mistake...since I had not researched beforehand how much tipping is usually is in the US, I regret that I left them a tip which was not commensurate to the service I was given. Hmm...well, chances are it will be a long, long time before I visit Morton's in Cincinnati again..*unrepentant grin*

Let me rave about them though -
The service was the best I had so far in the US of A!
The steak was so good that I was almost a convert to the steak-all-year lifestyle!
The "mortini" was aptly called "Heavenly"...very addicting.

My server Scot was really amiable and helpful as I told him I would have trouble finishing US-sized-style steaks. He recommended everything I had except for my martini (which I chose myself).
The salad and bread were also quite good and filling..and it is one regret to say I could not finish all of it. (A first! )

Try this steakhouse when you will be in the US of A.

It may be a bit pricey, but I enjoyed eating here so much I'd say its worth every dollar you spend, or every dish you will wash afterward in their kitchen .

Photos taken using Nokia 6300. I felt too conscious about taking pictures in an upscale restaurant.

Filet Mignon, the steak you can eat with a fork (knife not necessary) because it's the tenderest cut. Also the most expensive cut, per weight.

Some people use steak sauce like HP, A1, Worcestershire, or Heinz 57 when eating steak, but that's only if the meat is of inferior quality or not aged well. A good steak needs only salt and pepper to enhance its flavor.

There's also a Morton's here in Vancouver and very popular with celebrities. It's a high-end steakhouse but worth every bite, and service is impeccable. By the way Cat, tipping in these type of places is at least 15% or more, unless included in the bill.

Morton's most popular cut of steak is porterhouse.

True. Much as I love mushroom gravy, I would hate to smother it over a good quality perfectly grilled medium rare porterhouse (my favorite cut).

oh yes...I found that out later :-(

usually kc when I go out with others, we split the bill and they take care of the tip part...

in the Phils, most of the places I've eaten part of the bill na ang service charge...although in fairness, there are still some parts here which don't impose that..I think its better not to impose a fixed amount though...as in bahala ka na what you feel is commensurate to the service...

naku, can I blame the martini which *hic* made me cross-eyed to the point I could not identify which were 1 dollar and 5 dollar bills?

this is interesting, am not a steak person, but buti naman yung pinakatender as usually I stay away from steak due to the fear of needing a saw :-)

and now I remember....Eddie's Log Cabin pala yung steakhouse sa Cebu City..it was owned by Eddie Woolbright...

I don't know if it is as good as it was before...

I remember my dad used to bring us here only for very special occasions - e sa mahal ba ng steak nila at that time...I think when I was quite young (elementary pa ako), it was already 600 or 800 plus pesos for the imported steaks...)

That's the proper way to do it Cat. It's not supposed to be sliced up. Take chunks of it, may or may not apply butter, and eat.
