weekend fun in Cebu City
It is hard to believe that 15 years had passed since we first met together for the first time when House of Sara Lee opened in Cebu City. Yes, sirree...Maita Datan-Zamora and I were of the pioneering batch of employees for that direct-selling company's biggest branch in the Visayas - the one situated in Cebu City...ah, those were the days when being at the branch for 16 or more working hours per day from Monday to Saturday was considered all in a day's work *smirk*
Melvin came in a month afterwards, while Loloy was part of the additional staff engaged in helping run the operations of the branch...then Idyl and Elena (not yet his girlfriend, but who is now his wife) also joined us after a couple of months.
Today, House of Sara Lee has already been bought by Tupperware and is now known as Fuller Life, and some of us old fogies have scattered to the winds.
Maita, is another kumare of mine, was my roommate during our training in Manila, my seatmate at the office, and who is the mom of my first male godchild, has just resigned March of 2008. I imagine if I'd stuck it out at Sara Lee, I'd also be able to retire with a big fat check just like her *wink* (psssst Maita, libre ha?)
Idyl has come back to Cebu after being around other branches and is trying to start a family. Since he and Elena are trying to have a family, Elena was unable to join us as she was resting *wink*.
Melvin is I hope, really serious when he says he is going to get married since even during our days we kept teasing him and the last time I saw Loloy was on my last official IT visit to the Tacloban branch back before 2000.
Anyway, Maita was able to rope in a few of the old-timers, including Loloy who gallantly travelled all the way from Carcar City. Ah, seeing this bunch of good friends and fellow-"sufferers" of hard work *grin* has made me feel very happy knowing that even if there were those times of frustrating work, I got to meet these people. They are still my friends who make time out to see me when I get to Cebu once in a while.
After some last minute phone calls which were work-related (I now dread Friday nights), I found them in Ayala Center in front of Bo's Coffee Club. Luckily Fuller Life also didn't mean a 9 to 5 job so at least they didn't mind much waiting for me until 10 pm plus...even if they still had no dinner.
After a hilarious tour of all the restaurants in the Entertainment Center, which happened to be all on the verge of closing arleady for the night, we finally settled for Ratsky's. A good thing too coz would you believe, this was the first time ever that I went inside that place?
Without further ado, I want to share the pictures with them and with the others of our Sara Lee days (salad days?) who were not able to come over that night. Thanks guys, I didn't realize I missed you until I saw you again *happy grin*
