Ryokan Seikan-so
Nara, Japan
I chose and paid for a Japanese-style breakfast because I knew for sure it would have rice. I would probably not have any time for lunch if I had to cram shopping for souvenirs, picture-taking as well as stroll thru Nara Park so I could be in in time for my train reservation to Tokyo, so a heavy breakfast (compensate with rice! compensate with rice!) would be the order of the day.
I was the only Asian guest in the breakfast room. In fact, now that I mull things over, I could have been the only one who had that kind of breakfast. With relish I took my chopsticks and dug into the delicious fare. Pickes, rice, miso soup, egg, yoghurt, vegetables, and tea disappeared under my assault.
I almost finished all the rice in the big container. I was the last one to leave the dining room (because I was taking pictures! mind you, it was not because I was gobbling everything in sight...*cough*)
Afterwards I took some more pictures of the garden in the light of the day....too bad I could not take another wallow in the bath though..I must say, I've become fond of bathtubs during this trip.

Thanks for sharing. My solution was to make my rail booking when I was ready, not in advance. I used JR Shinkansen quite a lot during october 2006, and had no problems with bookings for my next destination as agreed with the next friend to visit.
John.

hi John...
I was trying to book advance as I visited Japan during the Golden Week...since I wasn't able to book during the Nagasaki-Osaka leg...I just tried it out hehehe...
since I underestimated the walking it took for me to go thru some part of Nara Park, I also missed my train...however, since it wasn't peak season, I was able to get a seat on the next scheduled one..
I was really happy for the JR Pass...next time I hope to reach mid-Japan to North...brrrrrr!

I'm on my way back to Japan soon, I leave here 30 sep. for 31 days, I'll visit Sapporo, Naha and several other places Nagoya, Yokohama, Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, and maybe Beppu and Himeji again. So, Tokyo to Hokkaido, back to Honshu, then to Okinawa and back to Honshu - Kyushu - Honshu and home. Yes, I have JR pass for two times two weeks.

Of course I will post them, maybe a few while touring, but if I have as many as in 2006 (1500 photos) it will take some time, and in December I'll be in Thailand.

nice room.
it looks better in the daylight...takes some getting used to though...but if everything is on the floor (including one's bed), one is forced to keep the room clean...*grin*

however, isn't athritis and rheumatism helped if one moves about? the only concern I have sleeping on the floor, is just that any cockroach/rat/ant can get to me quicker, otherwise, I like it :-)

depends on gaano kagrabe rayuma. some folks it will be a torture for them to get up from the floor. kasi walang buelo.

I was half-tempted to just lay in bed and sleep..but with ryokans, they usually have you vacate rooms in the morning coz they clean it up...and after 3 pm..pwede ka nang umuwi para matulog...its an inconvenience to other people not used to it...
this time though, since I was checking out to see the Nara Park...no worries..
