New Miyako & the Westin Miyako (album)

May 8, 2008
Kyoto

Much as I loved Kyoto, I had a reservation already in a Nara ryokan, so on this date I checked out.

However, I left my luggage at the hotel after checking out (very convenient arrangement if you want to do more sightseeing) and used their free shuttle service so I could be dropped off at their sister hotel theWestin Miyako.

why, you may ask?

the reason being (as one of my classmates was so fond of saying), the Westin Miyako was in the vicinity of other temples I wanted to visit, namely Nanzenji Temple and Ginkakuji Temple...and that is another album and anecdote to be posted later...suffice to say it was a long way off from where I was staying....

Little did I know I would be spending at least an hour in trying to find the 2nd temple because all the Japanese I asked just told me to go "massugi ni" (straight)....phew! my golly, I thought I'd end up in the next prefecture by the end of that walk...

Pictures below are shots taken prior to my last walkathon adventure and shows more of the hotel grounds, the train station I usually ended up in as well as Westin Miyako hotel, and part of my walk towards Nanzenji...

btw, in case you are interested in trying this hotel (I loved the Westin when I was in Cincinnati), check this site: www.westinmiyako-kyoto.com.

In my case though, I prefer to be in a hotel where I can easily just walk to the sites...and while the view and history in this hotel would be fantastic, its better off for those who don't plan to do a lot of walking around....

    hmm...oo nga ano...didn't think of that...za su-su-nod...nah..kabanata sounds more authentic ....

I underestimated Nanzenji...but its not as crowded as Kiyumizu, so if people visit here, do take time out to go around the grounds, you might feel more relaxed...

ticket dispenser for me is fine...its the trying to trace which station I should be in (and going up and down different levels and exits) esp in big big train stations wherein I feel like a lost child......whaaa! I want my mommy! *grin*

too true *sigh*..if I didn't have work to do I could have just left the laptop at home thereby ending with just my shoulder bag and the bag with my clothes...however my bags seemed to multiply every stop..and to think I didn't even buy a lot of stuff while on this trip or else I'd be like a porter when I got home...

when I looked at the structure if was vaguely familiar, then I remembered it was one of those I had googled before my trip...but which I had not pushed through coz of its distance from Gion ....

pero it does look nice...hmmmm... what am I saying, all ryokans seem to look nice....

its one country that even if they don't speak English much, I would be willing to get lost in...:-)

    isn't Singapore also quite safe?

yes it is. but it doesn't look as quiet in Japan basing from the pics you posted.

I think timing lang coz Golden Week had ended....but coming from the other album, I remembered that when I did visit Nara, it was like a fiesta of children...like hordes of kindergarten, elementary, middle-school, and I think high-school...more on the younger ones though..they were everywhere...

for this part of Kyoto (it was more peaceful...) and a good thing too..imagine a Zen temple teeming with people...
