Kitty Trail: Atom to New Miyako (album)

May 6, 2008
Arriving in Kyoto Station...

.......all the way from Osaka and its spots I had just visited, I bumped right away into a colorful last day exhibit on Astro Boy - of course, bags, mugs, souvenirs, posters galore were available for sale at slashed down prices to tempt you and your wallet.

Btw, this little robot character was originally named Tetsuwan Atom and was created in 1951 by Japanese cartoonist and animator Osamu Tezuka.

After checking with the Kyoto Tourist Information Center (TIC) for news on what was happening in Kyoto, we trudged to Hachijo-guchi (south) side of the station so I could check-in at the hotel I had chosen: theNew Miyako Hotel (this is when I noticed I had a bag missing which I had earlier blogged about).

I had thought Benjie would be accompanying me so I had gotten a double, and also decided to dip into my savings a bit more and get an expensive hotel which was conveniently about 3 minutes walk from the Shinkansen and Kintetsu trains....and while I could stand walking for miles I wasn't sure if my friend would not drop from exhaustion. When Benjie couldn't accompany me, I still didn't regret my choice as I had a nice room and chance to experience a more well-appointed hotel, rounding out the whole Japan trip experience.

As a sister hotel to the famous Westin Miyako (located near the other well-known temples and shrines in the Northeast part of Kyoto which I wanted to visit), this hotel has a free shuttle service too, and its touted as the largest hotel in Kyoto with its 986 rooms....it is a popular choice for tourists but I would classify it more as a business hotel. If you decide to try this hotel, make sure to get a room in the new South Wing as reviews I had read had other travelers complaining about the older smaller rooms and smell of tobacco (even if its non-smoking some guests may have smoked while staying in them).

Check this link http://www.miyakohotels.ne.jp/newmiyako/english/index.html for reservations and bookings.

Single units price range: USD $99 - $120. However, if you are patient, you can check out other sites and compare room rates as there are always offers (I had a big fat bed in the end and managed to pay cheaper rate for a room located in the new wing).

I admit I was tempted to grab the bottle of shampoo and body wash and bring them with me as a souvenir, but decided at the last minute against it. Let's not give them anything to say against Filipino tourists :-) I did however bring the slippers, pen and stationery hehehe...

Other hotels near the station are Hotel Granvia, Kyoto Tower Hotel, and Rihga Royal Hotel.

first time I encountered this was in Nagasaki, ang sarap to sit on a warm toilet seat..hehehe...

personally though I prefer a bidet especially if one makes a dump...I really do not feel contented with the spray of water here during those times...ehem...

imagine nga na back in the 50s pa yung Astroboy nya ginawa..and its still so cute till this day...

I heard the "big-eyes" of Jap animation was created by Tezuka-sama.

Aside from Astroboy, what I had seen of his work until now are only Metropolis and Black Jack....e kung di lang di-nub sana...I would enjoy it more...

    I didn't eat at the hotel...baka super expensive..hehehe..

I was so busy walking and visiting places, that most of the time I just resorted to buying bread from the 24/7 shops and o-cha and milk tea from the numerous vendo machines....

I wasn't able to get into the restaurants I had marked out due to lack of time...or sarado na when I passed by....though I did have some good food trips din...

one of the reasons I chose New Miyako coz yung sister hotel nya as I mentioned above is yung Westin...

when I stayed at Westin sa Cincinnati last year...ohmygulay...ang sarap ng bed nila...its reallly as if you are nestled in a cloud....so parang na link sa mind ko ganon din yung bed sa New Miyako...

and while its not the "Heavenly" set of Westin...Japan beds are usually comfy and this was no exception...*jumps up and down*

actually, you paid for those toiletries. they're part of the package on room rates. that's why some cheap hotels don't offer complete toiletries para mas mura rate nila. i think as long as you don't take the towels ;)>

yeah, I usually bring these bottles if these are the cute ones na pang one to 3 times na gamit....but these ones, as you can see from the pictures, malalaki...ala pampamilya...

their body washes, hair rinses and shampoos are really good..even if I was shampooing every day (I don't in the Philippines coz nag-dra-dry out ang aking hair even if may conditioner)...ang ganda pa rin ng labas ng buhok...

hmm..sayang di ko na try sa public toilets (that is one thing I didn't think to try out) yung may sounds...

baka naman next time they come up with these na may-emit ng perfume or air freshener...for those *ehem* times...

na-notice ko, basta "vacation" trips ko..am always tired..because they turn out to be parang sightseeing marathon eh...the May 6-7-8-9 days were like amazing race for me...*unrepentant grin*

kasalanan ko rin..but I feel time is wasted if I just lounge around in my room and sleep...siguro later when may nest-egg ako, and I can just say I will go to this and that place and bury myself under the bedcovers.....zzzzz

the night of my last post, I saw the last scenes featuring the "intelligent toilet" sa Japan in Asia News Channel...where you can check your med stats...blood pressure, etc. etc....and it was mostly women who liked it...

sabagay where else ka pa naman mag-check ng mga ganon? aside from hospital or clinic? ok na rin na na nasa bahay or..maybe if one is lucky, baka ilagay pa sa public toilets....(with bayad of course)...

Astro Boy is 鉄腕アトム, Tetsuwan Atomu literally "Mighty Atom". He was remade in the 1980s as Shin Tetsuwan Atomu and is usually known as Astroboy in the United States and countries...
