Once Upon a Time in Cebu...(album)

...my college classmates and I talked about having a reunion - 5 years from graduation, 10 years from graduation, any time somebody would have a wedding, birthday, baptism, wake (morbidly enough) ...whatever occasion would be a good excuse.

We've only managed to get together in groups of twos or threes at most and infrequently at that...so this year, I hope the hurriedly put-together dinner at our house will mean the start of more similar affairs happening between the people who are still in touch with each other especially those who are here in Cebu.

Even if group text was employed to inform those who were in the phone book there were still some glitches - resulting in Benjie and her family not being there since it was her son's birthday, or Rita not being able to travel since she would require at least 7 hours to prepare and make the trip itself from her town in Western Cebu...or other people being out of town, like Peping being Zamboanga, Manuel in either Korea or Bohol etc.

We do not do much cooking anymore so potluck was my theme. *wink*
I contributed pancit palabok, spirits, drinks and chichirria and some running around, phone calls and texting.
An initially thought of pancit also but ended up with some rich-looking chocolate cake. She came with 2 of her kids. Mga dalaga na ug ulitawo na intawon.
Rose came up with lechon from Lutopan, Toledo which caused some hilarity since it was placed inside a pail (I thought she brought a live lobster or some jumping prawns!) ...she also generously paid for the Yellow Cab pizza (we said we'd contribute but with the eating going on, we promptly forgot after the pizza was partially demolished). Her hubby Alde came with her, but they left their son at home.

Erwin contributed fruit...obviously this was for New Year because they were round ones.hahaha!
Harry and Jing-jing were said to be bringing some chicken...and it was with surprise and pleasure that we found out the boxes contained some favorite leche flan (Erwin, Harry and I made frequent visits to this dessert's location). Harry ferried his kids back and forth to their home.

The small party was conducive to coziness and small talk - lots of sharing and conversation between all the people present, even the kids. Talk ranged from our respective ages, food to badminton, to being fat, to gay people, to death, to driving, to dsl and smartbro, to multicabs transforming into tansans, to setup of pcs to "computer sayang" (a pun on our course which is computer science but then few of us are in IT).

One thing I have to say though, it is really good to be present for reunions because those who have do not attend inevitably get talked about - their shenanigans and history way back in school..hehehehe...I bet some people who were not around sneezed their noses off or bit their tongues more times than normal that night!

So for those in our batch, I hope you will join the Yahoogroups, YM and Multiply, Friendster and whatever reunions we will come up in the future. The next event will be the birthday of Rosemarie's son Al Rafael at Cayam, Naga this January 6, 2008.

See you there!

I was worried since weather in Cebu has been weird lately...I noticed that the rainy and sunny days seemed to be in an alternating pattern. Chances were that it was the turn for the rainy night on Dec 27.

The old people would probably say we ought to thank our patron saint (Sto. Nino) but it only rained the following day after the party, luckily.hehehe

Lalu na ako, stop it, I don't want to talk about it. Sa September 2008 63 na ako, vintage na. I think ako ang pinakamatanda sa Multiply group natin.

    hi Joey!

Being with your classmates means you can talk more easily and comfortably since you had shared experiences. It is really fun talking about these and getting different points of view on the circumstances.

Due to our youth and thoughtlessness at that time, we did not really reflect or take more care about what was happening to us or to other people, so its really heartening now to listen to them and see how they have grown more mature (abah, they lang yan, parang di ako kasama sa description non hahaha!)

high school classmates are like my sisters...kasi all girls school kami cat...yan ang feeling ko...kasi we all grew up together till we graduated high school...

some do have baggages, kaya ayaw magpakita, but the rest are just so cool...we just continue where we left off...ang saya rin!

Meow Cat. Basta the first step has been taken, i.e. nag-reunion din kayo na marami-rami, sunod-sunod na yan. We (my highschool batchmates), started out like that, too. Pero every year, dumadami ang naga-attend. Lalo pa ngayon na ang dami nang way to communicate. And remember, REUNION makes no sense without "U."

Hi Gwiz, hope you had a blast (figuratively speaking) during the changeover from the old to the new year.

You're right. It's a slumbook entry. Binagay ko lang sa topic ni Cat, i.e. highschool reunion :-)

actually, college reunion tong nangyari.. (^_^)

I came from an all-girls high school, STC (Cebu) and I was only able to attend one reunion, especially as mas grabe yung pagka-scatter ng HS batchmates ko...di ko ma-timing-timing sa mga happenings nila dito...

with my college batchmates, we were less than 50 kc pioneering batch kami and its easier to round them up although they are also distributed around Asia and US...

personally, I found my college class more fun...kc if puro babae sometimes, like in high school..hay naku, ang mga topics, paikot-ikot lang before on girl-talk...hehehe...
