Mother's Day @ Meiji Shrine (album)

11th of May 2008
Shibuya, Tokyo

First stop after Harajuku (different post later) was this shrine I had not planned on visiting.

Our target was fashionable Harajuku but since we didn't see a lot of color and co-splaying people when we first arrived, Ms H and I dawdled around until we discovered this shrine and went off to inspect it.

Meiji Jingu Shrine (明治神宮) is a popular Shinto shrine and is located in Tokyo, Japan near Harajuku Station (Harajuku) and Yoyogi Park. This shrine is is dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his wife, Empress Shōken who died in 1912 and 1914 respectively.

With the forest of 120,000 evergreen trees - it has 365 different species of trees and covers 700,000 square-meters (about 175 acres).

It was inside this shrine and edges of the forest wherein I placed a call to the Philippines to wish my mom a happy mother's day and to wish her good luck and happiness. I told her - "Mommy, special ang akong greeting to you...am calling from the middle of a very nice and green forest and cold weather of Tokyo...love you lots! *heart signs for eyes*">

The two areas of the shrine are:

* Naien, or the inner precinct/garden, centered on the shrine buildings, which include a treasure museum that houses articles of the Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken.

* Gaien, or the outer precinct/garden, which includes the Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery that houses a collection of 80 large murals illustrative of the events in the lives of the Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. It also includes the National Stadium and the Meiji Memorial Hall, which was originally used for governmental meetings, including discussions surrounding the drafting of the Meiji Constitution in the late 19th century. Today it is used for Shinto weddings (traditional Japanese weddings).

And yes! we managed to get a glimpse of Shinto wedding...however, both Ms H and I commented that the bride looked radiantly happy while the groom looked bad-tempered. Sobra stag party? I wonder why? Anyways it was a good photo op, and reminded me of the wedding I saw at Huis Ten Bosch too.

Sa lapit mong yan, mabuti hindi ikaw ang nakapag-utter nang "I do". "I do...want to partake of the banquet."

it was so nice to see the uchikake (wedding kimono)...gusto ko nga rin sumama sa picture taking ng party of the bride and groom eh..hehehe...

hmm...if ever makabalik ako sa Japan (I don't know though, because I wasn't able to see Fuji-san except from a postcard)...parang gusto ko mag try one time to dress up in one authentic getup na ganon tapos picture of course...*grin*

people here seem to marry young...while I was in Huis Ten Bosch, the one thing which was immediately apparent to me were the young couples strolling about...and some of them have children already who were walking..so you could guess they must have gotten hitched early...

parang turning 20s lang yata may 4 year old na...hmm...

I didn't know whether to laugh or shake my head...the groom never once smiled (not even for the picture taking no!)...if you can imagine a forced bridegroom saying his marriage vows with a gun behind his back..yun na ang dating!

cant remember if its the groom's family...but surely its the bride's family who shoulders most of the cost?

I think Ms H mentioned its expensive to have this sort of ceremony here...so they must be loaded with oodles of yen..

bakit? did you get married very early? sometimes I think 16 lang yata..ayan na...nagka-hubby na or sweetheart or anything...

but if ganon ang culture nila..thats also good..since the ageing population of Japan is getting bigger in numbers...and konti lang young peeps

either sa gastos, or napwersa sa kasal or sumakit ulo sa stag party nito..or baka gusto nya serious ang dating..otherwise para syang isang gang member sa Yakuza na napalunok ng nail the way he was looking all throughout..

oh well...am sure may simpleng explanation yan...
