Officially 13,870 days (album)

..is how long I have been on God's good and green earth. Wow, I feel like dancing a jig just to show how sprightly I can be!

To celebrate such longevity, and at various times, I dropped by with either one or both of my parents at different eating places. One of my fave old Chinese restaurants, where as a "suki" I always get the friendly wave and banter from the old-timer waitresses is where I go for my black mongo siopao, a staple in my visits.

For lunch, I wanted to eat okonomiyaki and green tea ice cream, so I tried out Ginza again with the company of my parents and our helper Rose. Last time I was here was with Pearl.

For merienda and to combat the heat of the sun, I visited another old haunt - Ice Castle - so we could slurp their best-selling halo-halo. I wanted to eat parfait afterwards also, but along the way we had bumped into an interesting collection of owls, dolls, and cats so I wanted to get back to it.

SInce I had not visited the site of Rustan's new grocery somewhere up the hills, I went there to see if they had durian plus my other hard-to-find items. Lo and behold, its a thriving and bustling little community, no doubt initiated by the site of the Convergys call center opposite the place. Durian and goat's milk tucked in bag, I dragged my mom for some leche flan and orange vanilla fizz at La Marea. Their first branch is at Crossroads and it has all the sweet stuff inside.

As a tribute to my mom's birthday and as a way of finding out if it was still around, I went to where one of the cheaper but best-tasting baked scallops are found. It was late evening and my mom was uneasy because the place is a bit dark, and there was some news of hold-ups in the area. I said if someone were to demand my money, I'd certainly tell the guy that if I were rich, would I be walking in that kind of place?

I planned to bring some friends over as part of my belated bday treat. After their ube shake (slurp, slurp) baked scallops and spicy prawns in oyster sauce, I declared myself almost contented.

And as a last hurrah, I went to the Persian Palate for the good ole shwarma, hummus and nan. I couldn't fit in anymore some lassi so I desisted.

Notice that I didn't say anything about a party at home? Those days are past. Its tiring and I wanted to spend time with my parents who I know have been missing their fave daughter (as an only child, who else would they be missing?).

My idea of a good time is good food, good company, a little strolling while window shopping and am satisfied. I would be treating some of my friends out later on another day...but today and on some other days, a semi-solitary outing is just the thing for my soul.

P.S. don't mind the dates, since my small camera was repaired (the one I usually tuck into my bag), I forgot to correct the date setting and had taken out the batteries at one time or another. The only correct thing is is the year *grin*

uhm..I don’t know…you see, my dad usually likes toasted bihon which we could get at this restaurant and at and old one in downtown Cebu (named Visayan restaurant but which is not so clean the way I look at it now)…

we compromised and i ordered something which was noodly and crispy…

mas masarap pa rin bihon tostado in my opinion…

I have not tasted durian from Thailand..for me the best ones I ever tasted in my life here on earth was a bunch I bought in Zamboanga…galing daw yon sa Jolo…parang na-lasing or na-adik yata ako non…the flesh was so custardly delicious, ang bango pa (excuse sa mga di durian lovers), tapos ang taste ay parang mapait like some brandy or alcohol was thrown in…di ko ma-describe but I was literally kissing the durian fruit in gratitude (sa loob, di yung spikes nya sa labas) …

yoohoo, MeAnn…or sino pang mga dyosa sa cucina …would you have the recipe for this? ang ma-describe ko lang kc is that parang the duck meat was mashed up along with the yam flesh and mixed together, tapos ang labas nya ay parang fried golden brown and you can see the outer cover is crispy looking, like yung sa tempura kumbaga…

I’m not too sure about that. Can you imagine the smell?
hmm….if ginawa mo na syang durian milkshake…its not as strong a smell as if it was in its fresh fruit form…

its good in coffee too….although some people will probably look at me disbelievingly…but when I tasted coffee with a durian flavor in Davao…my reaction was – ay..sarap pala!

so one time, my dad was eating the durian…and he said he wanted to drink coke..(yeah, puro tamis)..and I told him to pair it with his coffee…he dared and he said it was ok…e pihikan si daddy-goat ko…so ayan…

share ko kay mommy of course…

I keep telling her she needs to eat..she’s really super thin coz she’s been staying away from all these fattening stuff…kaya ayan, sabi ko sa kanya she is my “mummy” di na “mommy” hehehehe…

    I love leche flan too!

the ice cream for one was chocolate, the other was ube
then you have cornflakes, kaong, gelatin, leche flan, yung ube na jam, mung beans din yata, milk, ice, nata de coco? or nata something….

actually its not as special like those in parties where you make your own..commercialized na rin to…

I prefer the buko-halo though..served in the coconut itself..and you can scrape the meat off the insides of the buko…

Dito sa Vancouver, if you want to eat traditional Peking duck you have to order in advance kasi ipe-prepare pa raw. It comes in three dishes: duck soup, duck skin with dipping sauce, and duck meat wrapped in Chinese pancakes. The duck is a special type bred specifically for this type of dish. Medyo mahal but worth every penny.

Scallops of course, with the white tender meat, sarrrrap. I can eat scallops raw like oysters. Tahong or mussels ay napupulot lang dito sa seashore, very common.

last time I had delicious peking duck I enjoyed very much was in Singapore…but after that I think I tasted it again here in Manila..forgot the name..

anyway, 3-way Peking duck is very fine..pero content na ako with the skin…(shades of my fave crispy chicken skin)

but I think seafoods are still so much cheaper in Bohol, di ba F8? much fresher too…

before, sa Iloilo…nakatikim ako ng big, fresh oysters…alam mo ba P5 lang ang isang sack ng mga ganon? the sack size is like yung sa rice…but that was in the late 90′s….where a plate of scallops with probably 8 pieces was going for 75 Php at a restaurant such as Lighthouse…I dread to think magkano na ngayon…
