I've only visited it once before, and that was only because my MM classmate Vishesh and I made a pact to walk around for some exercise and discovered the Saturday market....that was way back in May 2005.
These two times I visited this place (Sept 6 and 13), was also because of exercise...I dared my mom to walk about since she claimed in Cebu she was having daily walks, while here, she was sleeping in during mornings. The first time we went, I had no money and had to borrow from her to get the things I wanted to eat...I mean...buy.
Both times were fun and inspite of being rained upon, I managed to procure the following:
- fresh carabao (water buffalo to you) milk
- fresh native cheese made from carabao's milk
- two small cactuses I've named Broc and Polka
- Swiss mint and Sweet Basil, who of course I've unimaginatively named Swiss and Basil, what else?
- mushrooms which we later cooked at home, mixed with tomatoes, onions, garlic, wrapped in banana leaves from the native cheese (actually it was the reason I bought the cheese!) and grilled
- my beloved durian!!!!! oh my durian!
- cheese-flavored dirty ice cream
- pink cotton candy
- lansones from Bangkok
- assorted baklava (I didn't know there is a salty version)
- thin, fragrant, flat, crispy sheets of I-forgot-the-name, good for pairing with dips
- fresh sugarcane juice...which I really miss ever since the sugarcane plants we had died...
- dalandan (Philippine orange) juice
Anyway, here are some of the things I saw (the rest I ate before I could take photos of them)...and hopefully I will go back there even if my mom isn't around to help me carry the stuff back home...
The pics were taken with Olympus waterproof cam...appropriate in view of the wet weather we had been having...

hehehe!…I didn’t actually intend to take a picture of what it had dumped, but more of it in action – back arching, tail waving, coz its not clear in this picture what it was doing…but I found it funny that it was doing its business, and the sign for directions to the CR was there too…
oh yes, CR would be the WC I guess in your part of the world..

it would probably be called Salcedo park…just turn left on Paseo de Roxas (if you are coming from from Ayala Ave) before Citibank (I think)…I think its 3 streets inwards…
it would be opposite of the Starbucks coffeeshop that Sir B, Ms. G, Joey and I had an EB with Margotsev. Sir B, if you are reading this, is it correct to name it as Salcedo park/parking area? hehehe

aha…kapag nandito kayo on Saturday, why don’t we have a mini-get-together dito? there is so much other stuff here, you could buy food and even eat it there because they provide tables….e yung mahilig ng mga spanish dishes, meron din don….and other home-made goodies…

hahaha!….you are too cruel Luce! pinapa-DIY sa papa ang gusto nyang food…there are lots of food here, which unfortunately, since my mom doesn’t eat meat, I didn’t like to eat also, there is no fun in eating all those calorie-laden stuff by one’s self…
ah yes, pastillas meron don and other carabao milk products…naghahanap nga ako ng goat’s milk eh…pero di yata kaya..may almond milk naman….
btw, may tip ako, for those who want cheaper soya milk, I had a surprising find sa Gourdo’s (?) at GB3…Kirkland nga lang..pero at 80 pesos ok na rin no…and to think I spend 120+ pesos on buying the green tea or vanilla flavored ones at Landmark..

well, remember the Christmas party we had sa Salcedo Three with nina Roseli, yung sa RMC group? yung park na dinaanan natin..yun yon…
- you could use the back entrance of RSC and go right, then probably turn a street or two leftwards from don sa Paseo Center…parang parallel kc yata s Valero st…
- you could walk along Paseo de Roxas and I think before Lepanto building turn leftwards and walk probably 2 more streets inwardds
teka..para akong GPS ah…hehehe…
or you could ask people around…basta may park yan na malaki…surrounded by condos…Salcedo park yata..just ask for Salcedo Village Market…

Dishes are best shared with family and friends. If you remember the dessert Claude’s Dream (fresh buko strips on macapuno ice cream surrounded by pandan jelly) from the defunct Bistro Lorenzo or Cafe Adriatico, you can also find it here.

mabalikan nga in October at ma-try yakapin..hehehe…although I don’t think masakit naman coz its not the “tukog” or yung sa walis (tingting ba yon?) na material..I think these guys would be softer…

Do you wash mushrooms before cooking? They say mushrooms should never be washed because they have a very high water content. A simple wiping with a damp cloth is enough to clean them.

if you ask the durian eaters, we would say..the smell is strong but not overpowering…
if ma-timing ka sa durian, its sweet, parang custardy…but the ones I like have an extra kick to it..parang may halong konting mapait, as if may vino/wine…or maybe some other people will describe it in another way..

itong mga fruits na di masyadong common sa atin, masarap din pala…
for the persimmon, didn’t expect na ganon sya…liked it better than pears though…
I chickened out from dragon fruit, and yung rattan fruit (which I think looked too much like lansones, and which was horribly expensive)

we were so busy, di ko na-kita tuloy si mommy nagluto nito..but probably nilinis nya with a quick wash..what we bough was somewhat dried na kc, we didn’t get to buy yung medyo fresh pa, it was only a week later we came back and got the packed ones..

Kung ganon, masarap talaga. But I still have a problem with the smell. Durian is sold here in Chinese groceries but very expensive, probably not as sweet and custardy as tree-ripened ones

I’ve only visited it once before, and that was only because my MM classmate Vishesh and I made a pact to walk around for some exercise and discovered the Saturday market….that was way back in May 2005.
These two times I visited this place (Sept 6 and 13), was also because of exercise…I dared my mom to walk about since she claimed in Cebu she was having daily walks, while here, she was sleeping in during mornings. The first time we went, I had no money and had to borrow from her to get the things I wanted to eat…I mean…buy.
Both times were fun and inspite of being rained upon, I managed to procure the following:
- fresh carabao (water buffalo to you) milk
- fresh native cheese made from carabao’s milk
- two small cactuses I’ve named Broc and Polka
- Swiss mint and Sweet Basil, who of course I’ve unimaginatively named Swiss and Basil, what else?
- mushrooms which we later cooked at home, mixed with tomatoes, onions, garlic, wrapped in banana leaves from the native cheese (actually it was the reason I bought the cheese!) and grilled
- my beloved durian!!!!! oh my durian!
- cheese-flavored dirty ice cream
- pink cotton candy
- lansones from Bangkok
- assorted baklava (I didn’t know there is a salty version)
- thin, fragrant, flat, crispy sheets of I-forgot-the-name, good for pairing with dips
- fresh sugarcane juice…which I really miss ever since the sugarcane plants we had died…
- dalandan (Philippine orange) juice
Anyway, here are some of the things I saw (the rest I ate before I could take photos of them)…and hopefully I will go back there even if my mom isn’t around to help me carry the stuff back home…
The pics were taken with Olympus waterproof cam…appropriate in view of the wet weather we had been having…
Hugz, Recipe please. Mukhang masarap yan. Baka swertehin ako dito at makakita ng kamias. Magawa na rin ang Binagoongan recipe ni Guia. May kasamang kamias yun:-)

Tama si Boboy. These are Talangka. Binuburo lang yan. Then you squeeze out the aligi (roe) over rice, then squeeze calamansi and you are good to go!
Another way is to squeeze out the aligi (roe) and sautee it in onions and garlic and youhave taba ng talangka. Similar to the ones sold in jars or canned. We used to make them when we were kids over at my Auntie’s house.

Our Maui Persimmons are very sweet and you can eat them even before they become really soft, almost like very very over ripe. Think the ones here are from Japan called Fuyu Persimmon. The ones available on the mainland which are round in shape, you have to wait till they are really over ripe to eat them. It tastes like Kaimito. Same texture. If you eat it before it gets ripe, mapakla ang lasa.
