Tokyo Disneyland @25 (album)

May 13, 2008

At long last, I can say I've visited a Disney theme park! And lucky me..Tokyo Disney Resort celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2008!

Tokyo Disney Resort (東京ディズニーリゾート) in Chiba, Japan, was the first Disney theme park resort to open outside of the US. Tokyo Disney Resort is comprised of Tokyo Disneyland (東京ディズニーランド) and Tokyo DisneySea (東京ディズニーシー) theme parks, nine hotels and the Ikspiari (イクスピアリ) shopping complex. It is the second most annually-visited theme park complex in the world, behind Walt Disney World Resort.

The seven theme lands of Tokyo Disneyland are, starting from the main entrance and going clockwise around Cinderella Castle, World Bazaar, Adventureland, Westernland, Critter Country, Fantasyland, Toontown, and Tomorrowland. With only a couple of exceptions, the attractions are essentially the same as those in other locations.

The sky was overcast, it was a bit cold and rainy. I am sure both Lisa-san and Helen-san are a bit weary of Disney as they have been here a couple of times already, but they most graciously treated me to this particular outing, taking care of everything and were responsible for my happiness in seeing all the delights the place had to offer.

My words cannot hope to describe accurately the fun, energy and sights and shows that abound in such a place, so I will let the pictures below tale the tale.

Afterwards, we had to skip the fireworks and show as I was really enthusiastic about getting a futon to bring on home so we had to start back earlier. Dinner at a Chinese cafe capped off that memorable day.

    Hi Cat,

I live one train station away and often ride my bike to the Ikspiari shopping center to get something to eat. A couple of our favorite restaurants are there.

Let me check out those pics now.

will buzz you when I next get a chance to visit Japan for a long visit...I had a one week off in April but changed my mind in getting a ticket to Japan simply because I felt it wasn't enough...2 weeks should be minimum :-)

*grin* believe me, its difficult for me to get or enjoy too...its a miracle we were given one week off this April and its only due to 3 holidays in the same week and some forced leave from the company on those "sandwich" days...otherwise, I would have to beg my boss to allow it..

Oh I understand. We often have to wait for those long strings of days off as well. We'll make a short trip to Shanghai during the Japanese Golden Week, so we won't take any days off of work.

cool! looking forward to your Shanghai photos and maybe reviews of the food or dishes there!

I've been meaning to go back to China and visit either Shanghai or Beijing this time..but everytime I tried to do so in the past years, something always come up (either some kind of flu or some kind of problem ...tsk..tsk)...

I have a company colleague who also has been hankering to go to Japan, and she has planned her trip there this April...like me, she is of the same mind to have at least 2 weeks stay - after all might as well make sure one gets one's money's worth for the airfare :-)

    Hi Cat,

I hope you get your chance to get back to China. I agree with you about the airfare. It is such a waste to fly for such a short time. I hope you and your coworker can take advantage of those holidays.

    Thanks Ted.

question if you don't mind...since the last time I was in China I had a friend who understood Cantonese and Mandarin...would you say the best way to go there would be thru a group tour then...

my Jap trip was mostly a "lonely planet" type...did my own reservations, traveled on my own steam and power, went to tourist spots alone just relying on train (and taxi in rare cases)...but I'm not confident enough to do that in China by myself hehehe..

    Hi Cat,

I am sure that you can get by in major cities with English. However, once outside those major cities language would probably be a problem.

I lived in Shanghai so I'll use that as my example. The cities of Hangzhou and Suzhou are not far from Shanghai, so if you made all your reservations to Shanghai and wanted to see those places you could arrange a day trip with the hotel most likely.

If you want to see most exotic places maybe going by group tour would be best.

A tip for taxis. Get the hotel concierge to write down the address of the place you want to visit. The taxi drivers I met in China were sometimes incompetent and got lost (one got out of the taxi to ask people on the street where a place we wanted to go was), but they are pretty honest.

    I hope it helps.

    Take care.
