Dining with my Sire (album)

My parents came for a brief 1-month visit.

Although the ants had a field day with a bite-all-you-can extravaganza on my arms and legs (blame my dad for eating candy...uhm.....like candy...I had candy wrappers all over my studio), I still had the energy to drag them to a couple of eating places I wanted to try out.

The biggest problem with dining out with my parents is my dad. He has and always been so picky with food that it takes all of my meagre talent in marketing and product presentation to get him to eat and appreciate food - home-cooked or from the restaurant.

*muses* I think it must be all the candy and chocolate he munches on...he has destroyed his taste buds. Now that he is older, it has gotten worse and I use a weird mix of cajoling, threatening and creative taglines to have him eat as he has gotten alarmingly thin. At least by the end of their stay here, I could say both parents gained weight thanks to my hard work!

Some of the places that I was able to have both or one or the other accompany me to eat at are the following (randomly listed), forgot to take my camera most of the time -

David's at GB1 - I always liked their congee which makes me feel better when I get sick but their ginger dip is what I come for most of the time...

Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.at GB3 - what else? shrimp!

Max's Fried Chicken at GB1 - spring chicken is good for my dad's soul

Razon's at GB1 - halo-halo (mix-mix) and pancit luglug eaten for merienda/snacktime

Restaurante Pia y Damaso at GB5 - their desserts are mouthwateringly-good enough to make even Sisa gain some speck of sanity

Jipan at Glorietta - I always buy most of my bread from this place and Bread Talk (if I happen to pass by) Jipan's bentos are not that bad...their cold noodles were one of the first items I tried out...slurp!

Makati Medical Center's canteen or cafeteria - yes! special mention because we discovered their bihon tostado (toasted noodles) which we had missed eating in Cebu, its funny thinking about going to the hospital to eat but I have plans of going there again to get my hands on their bihon tostado..sarap!

New Bombay Restaurant at Glorietta - influenced by the EB we had c/o Marie...its still as good as I remember and the manager was very solicitous, and I got an extra spicy saucerful of.... sauce when I said I loved spicy stuff

Conti's at Serendra - recommended by Marie and Weiss through frantic texting; I loved all of the food I ate here - mango bravo is to die for...lengua was better than the old standby we had in Beehive (Cebu)

Chelsea at Serendra - recommended by Weiss; expensive but since we weren't that hungry I just wanted to try out their menu...liked their salad (with goat cheese I think)

Fely J's at GB5 - dad was the lucky one who tried this out; lots of diners, I had my dad order their prawns, all I tasted was the take-home halo-halo

C2 Classic Cuisine at Shangri-la Mall - mom was with me this time and though the lovely laing was mopped up and the fried catfish was palatable (the latter's sauce was a bit too sour for me), it was the durian brûlée which made me nod approvingly...who can go wrong with durian?

Red Ribbon at Landmark - more for take out ensaimadas...and cakes...and silvanas...and..

Tsoko-nut at Waltermart Pasong Tamo - tried out their green salad and a cup of hot piping chocolate, shoot!

Amici's on Pasay Road - they run out of penne arriabiatta but the pastas mom and I had were hot...literally!

Hotshots at Glorietta - thanks to my mom's joke, their strawberry shake reminded me of soap, but I have always enjoyed their burgers...this time though I also tried their fish and chips...they close at around 2 am..so its quite convenient when one is doing midnight sales window shopping

*sigh* too little time to try out others though...

oh.....GB is my shortcut for Greenbelt...

GB1 or Greenbelt 1 is the one facing AIM on Paseo de Roxas

GB3 is more in the middle...and near towards Renaissance Hotel (on Pasay Road)

GB5 is on Legaspi St (on the street where I live)

Think of the whole lot facing Landmark on Makati Ave as being developed by Ayala, that's where all these Greenbelts are..

before, sa panahon nila dad, Beehive in Cebu was one of the places to visit if you wanted to eat lengua (its where I developed my liking for this dish)...that and their baguette...but things change...

ang sarap nga nito...very tender, the sauce was just the right mix of mushroom and whatever it was they plunked on it..

I have no idea..but you know how cats can be..maski saan mo makikita...

one time, I came across this cat who was also sprawled quite comfortably on a rock in the middle of the pond near GB3...near where I met up with Chiara before...it was a much better scene sana than this one, but wala naman akong camera....after that, I haven't seen that cat again..baka nasa siopao na...

basta food, dami nga dito sa Pinas...

it is too bad, Filipino cuisine in itself though is not that well-known...but with the variety of influences we have...we have really a variety of dishes...either adopted from the visitor as is, or with a twist..

ganon ba? usually kc halo-halo in Cebu also reaches 100 pesos..but once in a while na treat...its ok...I forgot to ask how much the halo-halo at Fely J'c cost...baka 200! phew!

which reminds me of some friends in the US before who were telling me that the halo-halo in Filipino restaurants there cost 4 dollars and above...and that was a couple of years ago pa...

what I heard is daming nag-line up pag bukas nyan dito..as usual, alam mo na ang Pinoy...

personally, unless malaking-malaking market nga..I don't think see how it can have repeat customers day after day...
