John and Yoko, unexpectedly (album)

ahaha! gotcha! how's that for a title?

Nah...I was just referring to an unexpected dinner at this resto (spelled JohnandYoko, see pic below) in Greenbelt 5 (yes, the same GB5 I was posting pictures and video of for the last couple of weeks - the last time, I felt like an impresario of sorts).

Dec 15, 2007 (Saturday) - I was on my way home from the office and stopped by the nearest Pancake House to eat a very late lunch at around 6:30 pm when I got a call from Ms. G. - she was dropping off something from Nona.

(Vielen Dank, Nona! ginawa kong part ng Xmas decor ko dito yung greetings mo and yung snowflake...hehehe).

And so with a hurried - May I cancel on my order? - and a quick dash to the door before the shocked waitress could stop me - I jogged to my building, picked up my cam, and I went down to Ms G to have dinner with her. (This was good timing, as I did see this resto during its soft opening and had a stray thought at that time to ask the Yonzons to share a meal with me later).

I am not especially successful with taking pictures of food, because of greed...

Ahem...rewind..I meant that I usually gobble them up before I can take a decent picture...but anyway this time, I thought I'd give it a shot. Wala na yung hinahanap na chef ni Ms G (I leave it to her to elucidate how we came to look for this resto) but we still got recommendations on what to order thru text!

Sir B was off somewhere with some male-bonding stuff for the good of the comic industry...that meant Ms G and I could talk without any censorship about any topic...mwahaha!

Nice photos Cat. I notice a cast of mauve. Masarap daw ang pagkain sa John and Yoko. Sa meeting namin, no frills, not thrills: isang pirasong dry fried chicken and a lump of rice. : (

oh...sorry to hear that Sir B but...ok lang kc its the company with you that counts...during that kind of situation, I usually just imagine my food as some sort of exotic dish...

I'm luckier coz I had good company and dishes in this dinner..hehehe *winks*

"John and Yoko" ang pangalan ng restaurant? Buti nakalusot yan.

ah..di na ako nag take ng pictures afterwards when puno na...at this time, yung diners nasa likod namin, near the entrance (di ko nakunan ng pic yon pagpasok namin)...

middle of our meal, ayun, papuno-puno na...and I don't know anong reaction sa mga tao dito if I just take their pictures while they are eating...sana I could pass myself off as food critic or dining-out photographer...hahaha

    yes, thats what we presumed..

ok din sya..parang paella lang though na the way we think of it..

except when I asked Ms G pano naging Jap version..ang nasabi nya is baka yung nori sprinkled over the cute prawns..

Love oysters too, specially raw and with a dash of Tabasco (or lemon). Sabi nila umiinit daw ang katawan pag kumain ng talaba, totoo ba yon Cat?

we actually tried to open their chili flakes container earlier..but we forgot to put them on when we began eating...pati Tabasco (which I love and have a big bottle of in my mini-kitchen) nawala sa isipan...

as for the umiinit part..hmmm...e baka naman kailangang mag reach ng 12 oysters muna para uminit ang katawan ng kumakain nito? *sabay timpla ng kape, giniginaw pala*

hi BNK...I added two pics today, which are of the entrance of the resto...medyo marami-rami na diners makikita mo..hehehe...

Since I usually pass by this way when I come from the direction of Landmark, it was easy to get a picture of the resto from outside,...

may nakita rin ako sa labas malapit sa garden..Chateau something..tapos may Damaso (padre damaso ba to?)...ang ulterior motive ko si kuha ng picture...sabay kain hehehe..

I first heard of John and Yoko from Chicha, Jack's sister. I think her daughter Cris was working there at that time as product developer or in kitchen operations (she is a chef). I have a sneaky suspicion that the Japaella is a spin-off from Paella ni Oma, hehe.

When I texted Chicha to ask if Cris was there that night, Chicha replied that Cris had already resigned because of her many catering commitments. Wow, Cris must be a very good chef! Nevertheless, I asked for – and Chicha readily texted back – the chef's recommendations.

ditto Ms. G! it was nice way to unwind...I needed it after that hectic week.

Unexpected encounters are always a pleasure to have....its like finding the last piece of your favorite pie in the ref, after you have a craving for it and know all the shops are out of stock.

Talaga?! Trust Yoko Ono to make sure of that, hehe. But note, Pinoy ingenuity still gets around it: JOHNANDYOKO. Tuloy-tuloy ang spelling ng pangalan ng resto. Lusot. =)

This is their version of Oysters Rockefeller. I find it cheesier and creamier than most others that I have tried. Sarap! (I am partial to cheese and creaminess in my food, hehe).
