Although I texted Peping, Altair and Manuel to tell them about Rolando being in town, I was the only one who was able to make it to meet up with Rolando Jumao-as and his family - wife Addy (Adelyn Lim) and son Reinard.
They have been living in Singapore for some time now and though I have been meaning to visit them (the last time I made plans and was in the process of buying a ticket was when that awful smoke from Indonesian fires blanketed the country), along with overdue visits to other friends, ex-officemates and classmates who are now living there...it never got to happen.
Rolando was my classmate in Computer Science way back in 1986. He was also a patient friend and teacher when it came to all things pingpong. I still remember the times we, along with other classmates/friends (Erwin, Chito to name a few) were batting it out after classes in our hot PE rooms (the last one was situated in the topmost floor of our college building..which meant going down 4 or was it 5 floors if you happened to hit your pingpong ball out the window.)
I made an interesting discovery when I met up with Rolando and Ady..the couple is into foreign currency trading. So much so that Roland is now concentrating on it and has left (maybe temporarily) his IT job. They seem to be doing well at it. This hardworking couple have taken to Singapore like ducks to water!
Since I had time to kill before dinner, I wafted along to the talk being presented by "FX:1 Capital Pte Ldt." President and CEO Benjamin Song to Lourdes "Dez" Alejo - who specializes in real estate (although she touches base with a lot of developers, that night she was touting Century Properties' Gramercy).
"FX:1 Capital" was shown on Channel News Asia last year since more and more Singaporeans seem to be gravitating towards this forex (foreign exchange) trading. It was interesting learning a little bit of their plans for Philippine expansion and aside from talking about food with Ben Song and his wife Yee May Song during dinner (what else but SIngaporean chili crabs, Penang and Filipino food), I also tuned in to Dez since she found out that I was going around looking for a pre-selling condo unit the other year.
Anyway, lest I in my zeal be accused of either getting a commission or promoting FX:1 or Century Properties, let me just leave that interesting tidbit for a while and present the pictures below for the benefit of our other classmates who were not able to make it or were not in Manila. (but it does sound interesting and I may explore being a forex trader later, we will see as I need money to fund my love for travel and all things food)....Sorry na lang to the guys who were not there, at solo ko yung chocolates..hehehe...
